"Cortana!" Exploring the Wilderness Lodge
You may have suppressed the memories from the last update (for your sake, I hope that is the case), so here is a recap of where we were going:
The afternoon awaited. I didn’t have park tickets for this two day trip, and we had our FAQ DISmeet scheduled for 5:30 that night, so we just had a short window of time to kill.
My friends knew that I had never stepped foot in the Grand Floridian resort or the Wilderness Lodge. They suggested that we go and explore one or both. To be honest, I have no interest in going to the GF. I have always wanted to check out the WL, especially since our stay the previous year at the similar Grand Californian and our visit to the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone, but my boys are not interested in going to a resort just to look around. So my friends and I decided to take a trip there.
Nannette, Rebecca and I summoned an Uber ride (this one was Rebecca, I think) to the Wilderness Lodge. Joanie stayed back at the room to rest.
Not much commentary here. The goal was just to look around.

As I mentioned, in 2014 when we visited
Disneyland we stayed at the
Grand Californian. You can definitely see the similarities in the buildings:
I also wanted to see how the resort compared to the iconic
Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone which I had visited earlier that month.

Some fun in the gift shop. I don’t normally try on hats, because you never know if an infected rooster has worn it before you.
Then it was time to explore the outside. The sky was dark and we could hear the rumble of thunder, but it wasn’t raining. Yet.
The pool was closed due to the weather:
The playground, too:
There is a geyser feature at the Wilderness Lodge, modeled after Old Faithful in Yellowstone. I am not sure how often it spouts, but I believe it is on a schedule even more reliable than the original. But it didn’t blow while we were there.
Fortunately, I can show you the real thing:
It did eventually start pouring so we went back inside. We rode the elevators to check out the hallways and to look down at the lobby.
At 4:00, we started making our preparations to return to the Beach Club. Rebecca had sent a free ride invite to Nannette, so she arranged for our ride- more about that in the next update. Rebecca also sent an invite to me.
Confession time! I don’t know how my phone works. I basically use my phone for calls, texts, facebook, photos and occasionally for the internet, like checking in on the DIS. I only have a few apps set up on my phone and Mark was the one who added them for me.
So when Rebecca sent me the link for a free ride on Uber and I needed to add the Uber app, I didn’t know what to do.
So I put my phone in front of my face and started to call out “Cortana! Cortana, Where are you?”
(Photo re-creation)
For some reason, my friends looked at me like I was crazy.
When they asked me what I was doing, I explained that unlike the rest of the world, I have a Windows phone instead of an iphone and Cortana is our Siri. I was trying to summon her so she could explain to me how to add an app to my phone. It didn’t work.
But it provided endless amusement for my friends for the rest of the trip. I never failed to bring a smile to their faces when I pulled out my phone and called out “Cortana!”
