So some of the CL rooms are SV but not good ones, not as good as the ones you would get by booking a regular SV from your points.

I do own at AKL (new member) but due to the time period when out contract was finalized, we were only at the 7 mth window by then....have a reservation for SV but waitlisted for CL for our trip!

Exactly. If you really want a nicer savanna view, you want to book Savanna view instead of Concierge villas. The best reason to book Concierge villas is to get the Sunrise Safari, the concierge lounge offerings and daily fully cleaning (including turndown service).
