Alcohol Policy Change?

I do think it isn't good bus to change a policy of this kind on short notice but I canot believe how upset people were getting over this. I mean it isn't like they said there would be no booze or drinking on board at all!

I wonder if that means no DRINKING alcohol at the port, or in the terminal?:scratchin

Quite possible......but I do remember overhearing one of the guys at the x-ray machine when someone asked about the sign...he said it was for booze being brought on but not to worry about it....go figure!

I hope that we will not be constantly asked now if we would like a drink, by the roaming waiters.

Other cruise lines don't allow alcohol to be brought on, but it's 24/7, "would you like a drink".

That's what I like about Disney- you can partake if you want, but can be left alone if you don't. Hope this doesn't change.

I must have missed that one my one Carnival cruise. I feel like I missed something.

Doesn't adult only areas and family friendly seem go together?
How about R rated movies?

I think the primary reason that those effected were upset is the way it was handled, with no notice and ridiculous and deceptive explanations as to why the policy changed.

As to your first comment, I'm not sure what you mean by that comparison.

I agree with your second for some posters but some have plainly said they go because of the amount of alcohol they can bring on board and are angry because this potential limitation.

Everyone and every family go on a DCL cruise for different reason's and many of them will be the same.

The change in policy has been revoked, so who care's why A family choose DCL over another cruise line, if it's not the same as B family?
Also if C family choose to take X-amount of booze with them and they don't affect anyone else's family or the ship, again, who cares?

Drinking or not drinking, bringing your own, or not, enjoy the cruise and have a great time!

This isn't just about the amount. There are many of us who prefer to bring on a bottle of rum or wine coolers or a bottle of something that we enjoy. It's not all about quantity, but about the freedom to enjoy our drink of choice while on vacation.

The policy would still allow for that; the same policy that the majority of the other cruise lines have. I can understand the people getting upset about the short notice but many posters in this thread have made it an alcohol issue not a notice issue.

I guess it's kind of the same thing as what happens when someone (innocently) asks where they are allowed to smoke onboard.
DOZENS...or maybe even hundreds....of non-smokers always show up to toss their opinions into the fray.:confused3

I have a couple of friends who attend AA meetings....kind of sad that you can make a joke of that.:sad2:

My comment about going to meetings was meant to be lighthearted and silly to lighten up the mood around here. There was absolutely no intention to make fun of anyone or that program. It was just me being goofy, and I apologize if it was offensive - it certainly was not meant to be so. It was because of all the comments of wow - this policy makes some people so mad! Why? Can't have fun without alcohol? And I was just trying to lighten things up. Anyway policy is changed at least temporarily so I intend to stop worrying about it and finish planning my 41st bday trip in 64 days! Pixie dust to everyone :wizard:

I have to wonder if there has been a problem with people who bring their own alcohol on board drinking too much, and Disney could not control it. If they are selling the alcohol, they could certainly cut off people who were drinking too much.
I have seen comments on other boards about intoxicated people on Disney cruises.

The first comment in regards to adult ONLY areas.
How is that appealing to families with young children and if it is...then how would partaking in them be family oriented? Since it would mean excluding family members.

This thread has evolved into everything cruising with DCL is NOT about.

Some people choose to drink, some don't, some bring their own, some don't.

People judging each other by whether they wouldn't cruise with DCL if they reinstated the no BYO policy, people saying why do you need booze to have a good time.

People please stop this.
Given that all is back to normal with the BYO alcohol, soda, liquor, water, isn't it time to close this thread?

Whatever DCL cruise your going on, just enjoy it!
It matter's not to you what other's choose, as long as it doesn't affect you or the people your cruising with!

I think there has been a problem with people not spending enough money on alcohol on DCL's ships, because many passengers have been bringing their own stash onboard.

Interesting thread. Glad to see it is on hold.

We all know DCL is more expensive. Main reason is they can be, because they are so popular - supply and demand. Other reasons - no casino, free soda, huge kid staff, you can bring on your own alcohol.

The rule against drinking your own alcohol in public places is not enforced. Some people are upset about rules not being enforced - does that mean you always drive 55 mph? I think some rules are there so they can be used if necessary - such as a rowdy group, etc. It doesn't mean they always have to be.

One question I have - can they really tell the difference between a bottle of wine and a bottle of hard alcohol in the carry on luggage? I don't see them opening up every bag with a bottle in it.

We just got off the Dream and many bars were really empty. It is just hard to pay $6 for a can of beer that would be 50c if we bought it elsewhere. I know it is the same as any bar, but the other bars on land don't charge thousands to walk in the door.

Perhaps the parents enjoy those areas while the kids are attending the kids club.

I don't think these things are the same though. People were upset about the limits to alcohol and how the "no limit' policy (even though there is a limit) was a major reason for them to justify the price difference. on any cruise thread I've read on this or other board, there has never been a mention of this as a reason for people being willing to pay a premium price for DCL. It has always been about the Disney touches (characters, theaming, shows, family entertainment, etc) not drinking.

could be, I know my dad has brought stuff on the ship, but he also buys his fair share on the ship as well.

I for one wouldn't want to carry anything more then a soda bottle onboard and I would never put anything in my luggage that is liquid like that because I've had lotion come out in my bag, at least I had put it in another bag though before

The policy change would have only permitted wine and beer to be carried on. No liquor.

As others have said, it is clear that DCL has been rethink their position on bringing alcohol onboard and if the last few days are any indication, they would like to make a change. This rescinded notice (we understand nothing is changing at this time) was "sneaked out" before a public announcement was made. The web site info was never changed and the reservation reps were never told to make this announcement. The question has been raised as to why then this thread should be allowed to continue and why we are still posting on it. Seems pretty clear it is because the topic is of interest and concern to many of the people who read these boards. If you feel strongly, one way or the other, about this issue (and it is clear people do), the time to let DCL know your opinion is now before it is a done deal.

I don't understand why people get upset if they don't think a topic on a thread is relevant (to them?) or if they don't agree with what is being posted. Feel free to voice your opinion, as long as it is not done in a crude, unlawful or immoral way. However, if you don't like what is being said on the thread, or don't think the thread is something you feel is of interest, don't open it or read it. But for gosh sakes don't go crying to the moderators that they should close the thread cause "they're saying not happy place things about DCL". People like DISboard members who talk about what makes DCL the best cruise line out there and let DCL know where they are not hitting the mark are invaluable. And DCL knows that. Why do you think your asked to take a survey after every interaction with them?
