AGLET – We're Gonna Tour The World Together! Updated 11/9!!!

I MUST try to remember the carrot cake cookie! I forget when I get there b/c I still don't know where the Writers Stop is hiding, and then it slips my mind?? Never done the blacklot tour and your account is not persuading me anytime soon! :p

I like the backlot tour... not love, but it's ok. It's too long for what it's worth (only a good time filler) and I agree 100% I always wish I had more time in the prop room! Once when we rode it they squished us two in with three others. It wasn't incredibly pleasant.
I dispise ToT but I love RnR. Go figure. :confused3
Still no hat!? :scared1:
I actually really like those odd, random stores that don't scream Disney... they always feel like an old relic of MGM Studios, and a time before every Disney gift shop was exactly the same as the last.

Just got caught up on your last few updates (basically the entire day from AK to DHS). Life has been super-busy for me the past few weeks, so I'm just getting back to the DIS.

So, the mystery "incident" was revealed: you left your KTTW card back at the room. I didn't know they could issue one at the parks! Good to know...just in case it happens to DH and I this year.

AK is actually our second-favorite park, after Epcot. We love looking at all the animals, and it is very picturesque for DH's photography hobby. We usually plan one whole day there during our trips. That way, we can do breakfast at Boma or Tusker, and dinner at Jiko. Hopefully, we won't accidentally pick a busy day. We're trying to plan using all the crowd trackers, etc., but it looks like you guys did that, too, and still ended up stuck in crowds.

We've never seen the Lion King show, but we're not huge fans of Disney shows in the parks, so I'm not sure if we'd like it. It does seem to be a favorite of many, though.

As you know, I love my Beaker hat. Haven't seen it in another store since the day I bought it. We were at D-land Saturday and I did see a lot of ppl wearing the Kermit hat, but we didn't check to see if they were selling the Muppet hats anywhere. I hope you find one!

The carrot cake cookie looked soooo yummy! Total food porn.

I'm not a big fan of the Backlot Tour. I think we might go on it again, but we wouldn't go out of our way for it. We've been on the one at Universal Studios here in SoCal several times, and that can be cool when there are active productions going on, but otherwise it's not my cup of tea. Way to be supportive of Wingnut, though. Relationships are all about compromise, right? ;)

I saw this mug down in Williamsburg and I thought of Wingnut. I don't know exactly what it means, but I like it anyway.

Fun update even if the Backlot tour is not the most exciting attraction. I agree with you - I love the warehouse.

I can't believe Wingnut has never been on that street before.

No hat yet?

Ugh, the Backlot Tour! :rotfl: It's ok, but yeah, I don't need to do it every trip!

I love Sunset Blvd! But then again, I love ToT and RnRC, so coming to the end of that street is pretty awesome for me! I can see why you guys never go down there, though! :rotfl2:

I have to agree with you on the Back Lot Tour. I do like it but it's just not a ride I have to go on each trip. I know we definitely skipped it the last time.

Now ToT and RNR is a must do for us. Have you and Wingnut ever been on them before? Tried it at least once?

I would definitely skip it more often than not, but Wingnut still loves it!

I can't speak for him, but yes, I have been on TOT. Once. Never again.

Agree on the backlot tour too....we did it in 2010 w/ the kids for the first time (for them) :thumbsup2They enjoyed but definety a ride not needed to do every trip....

It's a fun ride the first time around! The second, sure. But after that...:rolleyes1

I like the Backlot tour but it needs a little bit of an update or something, especially since they got rid of "Residential Street" (Hi Golden Girls House!! ) I agree about the Prop Warehouse too.

I can't do ToT or RnR either. I have done ToT once and that was enough for me.

Hmm wonder what changes are coming...

Awww yes the Golden Girls house!! Now all we have is the Hannah Montana shed! :rotfl:

Once was my limit for TOT too!! :thumbsup2

Backlot Tour needs some help... it's one of the things we just skip these days.

It's a shame, because I think it could be really awesome.

FOLK really IS that awesome, isn't it? I was just there a few days ago. :goodvibes Love the carrot cake cookies at Writer's Stop. They are one of the greatest things ever, I swear. I've seen similar items in the real world, but they haven't had cream cheese frosting, which, IMO...what's the point if there's no cream cheese frosting?

Can't wait to hear about your overhauled dining plans. I've been known to make some serious ADR changes on the fly, while I'm there.

It SO is!

Okay, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people serve cakes that are supposed to come with cream cheese frosting (i.e.: red velvet, carrot) with other frostings instead. Seriously?? The cream cheese frosting was the whole reason I wanted the cake!!

The Writer's Stop is right by Star Tours and the Streets of America. You can kind of get an idea of its location from my pictures from the window.

Hahaha I think the backlot tour is definitely worth doing at least once! It really is cool to see certain parts of it! But it gets old after too many repeat viewings!

I actually really like those odd, random stores that don't scream Disney... they always feel like an old relic of MGM Studios, and a time before every Disney gift shop was exactly the same as the last.

Why are we rushed through the best part of the ride??? It's so frustrating!!

Oh, I'm WAY too scared to try RnR!!!

I can see that, I miss when the Disney stores weren't all exactly the same thing. I guess I just wasn't expecting stores that different than the others!!

Yes, it's fantastic that they're very easily and quickly able to replace the cards! I was so relieved!

I actually didn't really look at the crowd planners before we would set out for the parks. We just kinda decided what we wanted to do, and if the crowds got too bad, we'd then check out the apps. It may not have been the best way to go about things, but it worked for us!

You really should give FOTLK a shot! It really is unlike any show I'd ever seen. It's SO well-done!

I know, reading your report made me extra-jealous that I hadn't gotten the hat on our previous trip!! They're always hiding when you're looking for them in the stores, I swear!

Yes, I definitely go on the Backlot Tour all for him! He loves the really long rides, I have no idea why (Backlot Tour, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Great Movie Ride...:rotfl:)

We haven't done the backlot tour in years. It looks like it hasn't changed much. Guess we'll wait a few more years to go back!

Haha nope! Still pretty much the same! The tour is auto-narrated now, as opposed to having a tour guide on board with you. That's pretty much the biggest change in the past few years I can think of!

No hat yet?

Hahaha that's so cool that you thought of him on your trip!! :goodvibes

(Also, it looks like that mug is filled with Rita's, and now I want Italian ices. :cloud9:)

It's funny, I've been calling DBF Wingnut (and created my Dis name) long before I found out the political connection to the word as well. He's my Wingnut because he had already started calling me Stringbean, and then told me a story of how he cut his hand on a wingnut repairing one of his old hockey sticks. Attempting to conjure a cute nickname on the fly, I called him Wingnut. And it stuck.

(Adorable, right? Lucky him... :rotfl:)

While he is not really a right-wing guy, a nut job...well, the jury's still out on that one.. :rolleyes1:lmao:

(I'm kidding, I'm kidding ;).)

The warehouse really is the best part of the tour!! I wish I had paused to take pictures there, but I'm VERY positive they would have been all blurry from being inside and having to keep walking!

:rotfl2:

(It's funny, the past few times, you've posted EXACTLY when I've started writing replies!)

Hahaha it seems like all of us would be fine with skipping the Backlot tour for at least several trips!

There isn't much down that street that attracts (boring) us! But it still was fun to visit, and apparently give Wingnut a new Disney experience!

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that about the Backlot tour. My family (my dad in particular) seems to think it's sacrilege to not care about it. I am also with you on them rushing you through the prop warehouse...THAT is super interesting to me and I am always so disappointed when we have to rush through!

The Muppets preshow is great! I've been doing some reading on what people think should be done to revitalize MGM and people are actually saying to do MuppetVision 3D. And some are even hardcore Disney people!! Do they not understand the significance of MuppetVision?? Especially when they're up-in-arms about rather ridiculous (in my opinion) Disney things.

We'll have to try out Writer's Stop and Starring Rolls next time we're in MGM.

I think it's still frosting when it's not on top! It's more about what it's made of, so frosting is thicker and creamier than icing. Icing usually has a liquid (milk, etc.) when frosting is mostly just sugar and butter with little to no liquid. So icing hardens and is good for drizzling/pouring.

I read a lot about baking. :rolleyes1

I agree, the Backlot Tour is one of those "meh, let's do it", if there's nothing else really going on. If I have other options though, I won't take it. I also agree that the prop warehouse is the best part and they make you run through there!

Oh my, you overhauled your dining plans hmmm. Fascinated to hear what you decided on.

Totally understand your dilemma with the five-in-a-row thing. I mean, for my family of five it was no big deal... we're kind of a family. But I can't imagine being smushed up against some random stranger. Awkward. Same goes for Kilimanjaro Safari. UGH. :rotfl:

The one time I went on the Backlot Tour, catastrophe canyon was broken, and our tram took a random turn and we went backwards through the attraction and the narration was off. Talk about a rip off. Anyways, it's cool to actually see pictures of it haha.

Hmm... I thought going into the shops on Sunset would lead you to the elusive hat! Apparently I was wrong. :(

I also Facebooked this picture of the castle with my phone in the meantime.

Madame Leota urged us to "hurry baaaaaaaack", and we exited the ride.

Ok, I'm about 2 months late to this fabulous TR party. I absolutely love that picture of the castle, it's beautiful.

Haunted Mansion was one of my favorite "behind the scenes" things I learned about when I was in the College Program. All of those additions to the cemetery actually come from many of the cast member stories that have been passed around down from generation to generation about the Haunted Mansion. Hope to see them again soon.

I'm loving the TR and living vicariously through your trip since it might be awhile til I can head to the world again.

OMG isn't the Carrot Cake Cookie AMAZING!!?? I had read about it on The DIS in someone's TR a few years ago and we finally tried it on our last trip in 2010. SO GOOD!!!! AH! I want one right now!!!

Gosh, I love the Muppets! Haven't bought the DVD yet though...It's on the list, we just like to wait for movies to go on sale because we're cheap like that :thumbsup2

(you were commenting on someone else's reply and mentioned Rita's and now I totally want one of THOSE too! Weight Watchers be DARNED!!!! )

Ohhh The Backlot Tour..... It's like the man's version of IASW. Women want to go on IASW because it's a classic... I guess that's how men feel about the Backlot Tour? The last time we went on it was 2007 and that was because I messed up the times for LMA and we missed the last show. I can't believe the tram was THAT crowded though...We almost always get a row either all to ourselves or with just 2 other people on it. If it was me, I would have said I would wait for the next one and gone back to investigate the prop house! :thumbsup2

Oh the poor backlot tour! Its such a shell of its former self! I'm glad that someone still rides it, because I don't think I've bothered since 2006.

I'm interested to see what changes you make to your plans! :thumbsup2

DH loves the Backlot Tour, so we do it if we have time. I am always glad for a chance to sit down anyway.

Hahaha awww...it's not that we don't care about it! It could just use an update! Like maybe even just changing the pre-show movie from the 11-year-old Pearl Harbor! :rotfl:

Maybe if you wait until the back of the group, you can go through slower? I'm not sure if missing the tram throws off the CM's count though!

Wait, what??? Alright, I know people are entitled to different opinions, but the Muppets are NOT expendable!! :sad2:

You definitely should! And they're conveniently located on opposite sides of the park for optimal snacking locations!

This is true...but what about fillings, such as in a cupcake? Or one of my other favorites, ganache? Oh, dessert. You tempt and confound me so...:cloud9:

I agree, the Backlot Tour is one of those "meh, let's do it", if there's nothing else really going on. If I have other options though, I won't take it. I also agree that the prop warehouse is the best part and they make you run through there!

Hahaha "alright FINE, I'll go..." Seriously, where else are there so many props in so little space?

Agreed, it's totally different for family! But with strangers, you're like "I can't squish over for politeness purposes any further!"

Hahaha that's so weird! I've definitely never had that happen!

No, but it sounds delicious, too. :)

This would be my favorite part of this ride/attraction - seeing Walt's plane and thinking of the discussions and plans that probably took place on it.

It is! Very sweet, but very good!

Yes, I do love seeing Walt's plane. If walls could talk, I think I would definitely choose those ones to listen to.

Welcome!!! :goodvibes Glad to have you here!

Thank you!! That's such a cool fact about the Haunted Mansion! It must have been so interesting to do the CP!!

OMG isn't the Carrot Cake Cookie AMAZING!!?? I had read about it on The DIS in someone's TR a few years ago and we finally tried it on our last trip in 2010. SO GOOD!!!! AH! I want one right now!!!

YES IT IS. I'd like 8 right now, please! :thumbsup2

Hahaha sorry for all of the bad food influence!! (I recently discovered a Rita's a few minutes from our place, and I've been wanting it ever since!)

Yeah, those DVD/Blu-Ray/Whatever they are's are so expensive now. If we didn't have the gift card to use, I think we would have waited or found it somewhere else, honestly! But I'm glad we got it, it's such a great movie!

:lmao: I LOVE your IASW/Backlot Tour analogy!! Maybe that's it! It does have explosions and fire! That's manly! :thumbsup2 I wasn't sure if we'd be allowed back into the prop warehouse, and the other people had already welcomed us aboard, so I guess I didn't want to be rude and be like we didn't want to sit with them at that point! (Although I'm not sure how letting them be in seating comfort for the ride would have been rude..?)

Idk. I'm still confused. :rotfl:

It so is! Hahaha oh, we're there, do not worry! :thumbsup2

DH loves the Backlot Tour, so we do it if we have time. I am always glad for a chance to sit down anyway.

This is true, Wingnut is a fan of those rides that you sit for awhile (and usually with a nice breeze or air-conditioning!).
