Lunch

Because you can't go to Epcot and NOT eat at Sunshine Seasons. AMIRITE?

This was my freakin' GLORIOUS lunch on this lovely Sunday afternoon:

20150426_123233-1.jpg

Slow-Roasted Pork Chop, with Cheddar Mashed Potatoes and BBQ Sauce.

I asked for my BBQ sauce on the side, because it looks chunky and that scared me. :scared: I did a little taste-test of it, and it wasn't BAD... but it wasn't good either. The pork chop without any sauce was very flavorful, but just a leeeeetle bit on the dry side. Then I had an idea...

20150426_124731_1.jpg

That's right, ya'll. I located some good ol' Heinz barbeque sauce, intended for kids to dunk their nuggets in. No shame in my game! :thumbsup2

Oh, and before I move on to dessert... The mashed potatoes were wonderful! Turns out that I really like Disney World mashed potatoes, of all things. Who'da thunk it? :confused3 On this trip, I had them here, at Be Our Guest, and at Sassagoula Floatworks. And each time, they were delicious!

Anyhow... DESSERT!!!

AWWWWWW YEAAAAAAUHHH. Strawberry Shortcake, baby! I've been seeing photos of this beast here on the DIS for months (particularly on @DisneyKid4Life 's trip reports), and finally got my hands on it. It did NOT disappoint! Pretty much the best strawberry shortcake I've ever put in my mouth. OM NOM NOMMY GOODNESS. :goodvibes

we've NEVER eaten in sunshine seasons, can you believe it?

the pork chop looks ok, but those potatoes are making me SO hungry! yes, I love carbs.....

that strawberry shortcake---I see it everywhere on the DIS! must get my hands on some.....one day!

I love how inventive you were with the BBQ sauce :)

Oooh that dessert does look delicious.

Cheesey mashed potatos?? That sounds divine!!! And so does that strawberry shortcake!!

Oh, girl, you know it!!! I LOVE Sunshine Seasons! :thumbsup2

At first I was totally thinking "what is that sauce?!" because of the fact that it was chunky. I probably would have tried it but ultimately done the same thing you did! :rotfl2:

The shortcake... omg. :cloud9: I'm not exactly sure I've had one (certainly not within working memory)... but it's been on my list for quite some time, also thanks to Rob!

You HAVE to go to Sunshine Seasons. Your lunch looks good but that strawberry shortcake looks fantastic!

Omg I NEED that strawberry shortcake. Holy moly.

I haven't eaten in Sunshine seasons in years, probably because there are so many things I love to eat in world showcase, but it definitely looks like a great place to try especially if people are all looking for something different!

Before leaving home, I had read about this on the DIS and knew that I needed to try it...

20150426_090432-1.jpg

Hot Breakfast Wrap - Sausage, Spinach, Scrambled Eggs, and Goat Cheese. With a French Vanilla Iced Coffee.

It was good, just not as good as I was hoping. It was lacking on the goat cheese, big time. If they doubled up on that, it would have been perfect!

A couple more photos, unwrapped and of the inside of it...

And the coffee was delicious, as usual. ::yes::
This seems like SUCH a great breakfast option, and I have never seen it mentioned before. Of course, I'd prefer more cheese too, but still - a nice change of pace!

That's right, ya'll. I located some good ol' Heinz barbeque sauce, intended for kids to dunk their nuggets in. No shame in my game! :thumbsup2
:rotfl2: You are cracking me up!!!!

I don't know - all I can say is: YUM.

Wow your meal looks like something you'd be at a table service restaurant. Sans the paper plates and heinz bbq sauce of course ; )

That strawberry shortcake looks divine. Gonna have to get me some of that.

Oh Sunshine Seasons is a must!

I'm a big fan of Disney mashed potatoes as well! Those look super yummy!

Oh, that strawberry shortcake. Delicious! We had the carrot cake too and it was great as well!

Yum on the strawberry shortcake! Adding to my list for our next trip. Also not a fan of chunky barbecue sauce.

we've NEVER eaten in sunshine seasons, can you believe it?
I can NOT believe it! You must rectify this immediately! ::yes::

the pork chop looks ok, but those potatoes are making me SO hungry! yes, I love carbs.....
I feel ya! I'm a total "meat & potatoes" girl, and in the case of this lunch, quite literally.

that strawberry shortcake---I see it everywhere on the DIS! must get my hands on some.....one day!
Doooo eeeet! Even if you don't do a meal at Sunshine Seasons, then just dip in before or after Soarin' for a snack! :thumbsup2

I love how inventive you were with the BBQ sauce :)
I like to improvise!

Oooh that dessert does look delicious.
It tasted even better than it looks! :goodvibes

Cheesey mashed potatos?? That sounds divine!!! And so does that strawberry shortcake!!
It was all super delicious! :cutie:

Oh, girl, you know it!!! I LOVE Sunshine Seasons! :thumbsup2
Me tooooooo! :D

At first I was totally thinking "what is that sauce?!" because of the fact that it was chunky. I probably would have tried it but ultimately done the same thing you did! :rotfl2:
Right?!! It looks like marinara or salsa or something! So weird! :crazy2:

The shortcake... omg. :cloud9: I'm not exactly sure I've had one (certainly not within working memory)... but it's been on my list for quite some time, also thanks to Rob!
I hope you'll be having some next week! :thumbsup2

You HAVE to go to Sunshine Seasons. Your lunch looks good but that strawberry shortcake looks fantastic!
Sunshine Seasons is a MUST! And the strawberry shortcake is amaaaaaazing! :goodvibes

Omg I NEED that strawberry shortcake. Holy moly.
Yeah, you do!!!

I haven't eaten in Sunshine seasons in years, probably because there are so many things I love to eat in world showcase, but it definitely looks like a great place to try especially if people are all looking for something different!
I know what you mean! There's a little part of me that questions why I continue to go to Sunshine Seasons when there's so many great options in World Showcase. Aside from the fact that it's freakin' delicious, I think it also has to do with the fact that I spend enough time in Future World in the mornings that it's lunchtime before I've ever made it to WS. I'm going to try to change it up on the next trip, though! :scratchin

Side note- I would've been terrified of the chunky bbq sauce too, haha
I'm so glad that it's not just me!!

This seems like SUCH a great breakfast option, and I have never seen it mentioned before. Of course, I'd prefer more cheese too, but still - a nice change of pace!
It was definitely something different, and very convenient! ::yes::

:rotfl2: You are cracking me up!!!!
I'm so glad, as I try to keep it entertaining!

I don't know - all I can say is: YUM.
SUPER yum! :cloud9:

Wow your meal looks like something you'd be at a table service restaurant. Sans the paper plates and heinz bbq sauce of course ; )
That's the idea! I'm all about getting the best value (aka most food) out of my counter service dining plan credits! :thumbsup2

That strawberry shortcake looks divine. Gonna have to get me some of that.
Yeah, you do! It's amazeballs! :cloud9:

Oh Sunshine Seasons is a must!
Agreed!! :goodvibes

I'm a big fan of Disney mashed potatoes as well! Those look super yummy!
So it's NOT just me! What special magic do they put in them that makes them so delicious?!

Oh, that strawberry shortcake. Delicious! We had the carrot cake too and it was great as well!
Oooooh, I love a good carrot cake! I might have to try it next time! :bitelip:

Yum on the strawberry shortcake! Adding to my list for our next trip.
Doooo eeeeet! You won't regret it! :thumbsup2

Also not a fan of chunky barbecue sauce.
I've never even SEEN chunky bbq sauce until this meal! So weird! :confused3

Snacks

Originally this was supposed to be my dinner. But then I found other dinner I wanted later. So. Whatever. VACATION! :D

Here are the many many many things that I put in my mouth as I circled World Showcase...

Jardin de Fiesta (Mexico)

20150426_162512-1.jpg

Flan de Queso con Chocolate Abuelita – Mexican Chocolate Custard with Whipped Cream and Cinnamon.

I looooooved this. I could eat this EVERY DAY. I intentionally took a couple bites for the photo, so you could see inside it. It has a perfect balance of flavors. Yummmm!

20150426_162439-1.jpg

I got a Blueberry Pomegranate Margarita to go with this. I was super looking forward to this beverage. Sadly, it was just WAY TOO STRONG for me. Like, seriously. It tastes like slightly watered-down tequila. Not even a hint of blueberry or pomegranate. It made me go cross-eyed... quite literally. I only drank maybe a 4th of it, and threw the rest away, which made my soul hurt.

Florida Fresh

20150426_164835-1.jpg

Florida Blueberry and Lemon Curd Tart

Sweet baby jesus, this was yummy. The lemon tart itself was yummy, but that blueberry compote on top was HEAVENLY. And my blueberries formed a hidden Mickey, too!

20150426_164838-1.jpg

Watermelon Passion Fruit Slush

Originally I had planned on getting the alcoholic version that was offered of this (with gin), but after my horrible margarita experience, I wasn't feeling it. So I got it without, and I ended up being VERY glad I did. This was incredibly light and freshing, and I very nearly went back for a second one, but I resisted!

The Smokehouse

20150426_170749-1.jpg

"Piggylcious" Bacon Cupcake.

This was super delicious! The whole LET'S PUT BACON IN EVERYTHING movement fascinates me to no end. But the maple frosting is what really shines here... it's was so tasty! My only complaint is that there were about 629% more pretzel pieces on top than I was expecting. I was only counting on maybe two or three. And not being a pretzel person, my plan was to just pick them off. Yeah, that ended up taking half my lifetime to do. But hey... Worth it!

Hanami (Japan)

20150426_171834-1.jpg

20150426_171900-1.jpg

Teriyaki Curry Bun - Steamed bun filled with chicken, vegetables, curry and sweet sauce.

This was so freakin' good! I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. If anybody served these here locally, I'd be eating them ALL THE TIME. It's definitely good stuff!

20150426_171826-1.jpg

Frushi - Fresh pineapple, strawberries and melon, rolled with coconut rice, topped with raspberry sauce, sprinkled with toasted coconut and served with whipped cream on the side.

Okay, first, I just have to say this instantly made me so happy. Because it's PINK. :cutie: The photo I had seen prior to my trip, it was rolled in pastel green. It was cute. But this... PINK! Oh, and it was super tasty too. I wish there had been more whipped cream, though.

Taste of Marrakesh (Morocco)

20150426_173310-1.jpg

Harissa Chicken Kebab with Couscous Salad.

This was nice for something different. The chicken had a bit more kick than I was prepared for, but I'm just a great big giant wussy girl about anything even mildly spicey.

Fleur de Lys (France)

20150426_174523-1.jpg

Confit de Canard, Pommes de Terre Sarladaise – Pulled Duck Confit with Garlic and Parsley Potatoes.

Oh. My. God. As much as I loved the curry bun in Japan, eeked past it to win the day. It was so incredibly delicious, and the perfect gnosh for a gal like me. I think I fell asleep that night dreaming about it.

20150426_174818-1.jpg

Macaron Guimauve à la Fraise, a Strawberry Marshmallow Macaron.

This was really interesting! Macarons always have an interesting texture, but the filling of strawberry and marshmallow worked really well with them. (And... pink!)

Pineapple Promenade

20150426_180914-1.jpg

Pineapple Soft Serve with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum.

A Dole Whip for lushes? YES PLEASE. By this point, I was over my fear of liquor. Not to mention that (1) the liquor in it is one of my favorites anyhow, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, and (2) I've had my eye on this baby even since I first read about it a year or so ago. So I just HAD to try it. Man, am I happy I did. It was totally my speed, and just so YUM YUM YUM!

Oh, everything looks so yummy! Reading through this is making me wish I could go back and try some of the things I missed - the duck confit and the lemon tart especially. I am seriously kicking myself for not trying the duck. :sad2:

Oh my gosh! The pretzel? the teriyaki bun? The frushi? The chicken? I need one of these :genie: to make that all magically appear in front of me!

Why am I starving and ready for a drink at 10:30 in the morning? Oh right--cuz everything looks so GOOD!! You made some delicious choices, lady. Again, I'm drooling over that pineapple rum soft serve!

The steamed bun you got in Japan reminds me of my favorite place to eat when I go home (Nebraska). It's a fast food place called runza and is the same steamed bun sort of thing, but with ground beef and cabbage inside. They will also add cheese or marinara. They are so deliciously yummy that when I was pregnant and craving them so badly, my mom, bless her heart!, got some and drove them to St. Louis for me! If you ever head to the Midwest, try them out!
