A magical RCG and SBP Disneyland wedding: Wedding Day posts: Castle Shoot and Video!!

So sorry to hear about the phone! I hope it turns up!!!

I checked out the PJ again because I hadn't gotten an email from Disboards saying it had been updated. Turns out I'm just dumb and didn't set the subscription options. So, I will today, because I love how your event is turning out! :)

Your cake sounds awesome! I'm glad that Disney is able to accommodate all of the dietary restrictions coming. Disney was great to work with us as well on the restrictions for my dad (he's a vegan, but a "special" vegan, because he won't eat oils either). It was really quite pleasant working with them.

Do me a huge favor and post your cake once you have your wedding? Wedding cakes are my thing. They are the ultimate form of art...and edible. Two things I love. :)

Yeah we really hope her phone turns up... Buying a new one right now is not on the list of to do since we just bought hers like 6 months ago. Life has not been extremely pleasant for us during this planning process, so we really hope we catch a break.

Oh we will definitely post some cake pictures :). We're very excited to see how it comes out since what we're asking for looks a little different than what they've done in the past.

We are quite excited to see how everything turns out!!

I only just found this somehow! I tend to read the boards on the app and mostly just post on a desktop so things get buried a little easily. I'd spend all day at the computer otherwise though! I went back to your first post and saw it was made on 7/10 - which being Australian and accustomed to our date format reads to me as Oct 7th, earlier this week. Needless to say I was very impressed at your progress in only a few short days!

That said though, you still do have quite a quick turnaround (slightly more than the two months tired me was imagining) and seem to be doing amazingly with it! It's great that your planner is so responsive and helpful, they're so professional at Disney and handle the biggest day of people's lives so brilliantly. It's awesome you've been able to work with them on a menu that from the tasting session post you really seem excited about. Another venue might find dietary restrictions more restrictive but with your event that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Updates!! With changes! OooOOooOOOoo

(Sorry long post)

We are less than seven weeks out from our wedding ieeeee!! We’re just about ready to explode from the excitement! With our wedding day rapidly approaching, so is our final payment to Disney. That calls for final budget negotiations!! Woooo!!

Both Diana and I have really struggled to envision what we want our day to look like, and I’m happy to say, I think it is finally coming together in a way that is going to be gorgeous and meaningful to both of us. It wasn’t easy getting there, and all the little ideas, pieces of advice, and support you on this board have provided have helped us in our efforts to shape our day immensely. Now, onto the details!

The Ceremony

We’ve made a few small changes with the ceremony décor and our floral. Rather than do bouquets through Disney, we’re having my mom do the bouquets. Kelly, the floral person through Disney, showed us gorgeous bouquets and had described two bouquets we would have loved. However, my mom had expressed interest in making bouquets for Diana and me. Ultimately, we decided to let my mom make them for us. She is over the moon excited to do this for us, and she made my sister a beautiful bouquet for my sister’s wedding, so I know they’ll turn out fantastic.

Since our ceremony is going to be right after sunset, we decided to add a little something to the aisle to give it just a little more light and make it stand out a little more for pictures. We are now going to have ivory and burgundy petals spread down either side of the aisle with clusters of votives along the aisle. We’re hoping this helps the aisle stand out a little more in pictures and video!

What the aisle looks like at night with no additional lighting elements along the aisle.

We are doing the rose petals with the votive clusters :)

The Reception

Big changes here!! First, the little bits and pieces. First, I have not been able to stop thinking about that amazing dessert we tried at the tasting. The milk chocolate cube with passion fruit sauce is just out of this world. With cake 100% on the menu, I had serious reservations about adding in more sweets, and such a rich one. The actual normal size of the dessert was definitely too much, but the small sample size they had made for us to try it at the tasting was juuuuust right for a little late night sweet. Michiel wasn’t sure if they’d be able to make it that small for the reception and the cost, but she inquired anyway. Turns out the mini cubes were only $3.00 a piece!! Sweet victory! Dessert is on the menu! :yay:

Michiel had also mentioned these World of Color filmstrip chocolates that they had extra of from another wedding that we could potentially incorporate somehow. Once we heard the dessert was a go, it was a no brainer to us to have the desserts plated with the World of Color filmstrips. It is going to tie into our cake so well!

The chocolate filmstrip that will be plated with our dessert

As our final payment date has been drawing closer, we’ve been thinking hard about what elements we would regret not having part of our wedding and what we can live without. The one we kept coming back to is characters. After our planning sessions, we said no to characters because we just could not rationalize the price. There is no denying that for 30 minutes, they are quite expensive. So we kept saying no. Then Diana and I had a heart to heart and realized we cannot have this wedding without the characters!! Now which one(s)??

First up: Donald! This grumpy little duck will always have a special place in my heart. As a child, my grandfather used to speak to me in the Donald Duck voice when I visited him. He passed away almost 10 years ago, and having Donald there will be like having a little piece of my grandfather with me. We’ll be bringing Donald out for our cake cutting moment!

We had wanted Mickey, Minnie, and Donald together for a meet and greet, but we found out you cannot have another character with Mickey and Minnie (if I understood correctly it is because Mickey and Minnie are a set), so that put is in a predicament, If we invited the mice, the is another 30 minute set and then there is almost no time for dancing, and that would be sad.

I mentioned this to MIchiel and she brought up we could extend the reception. Brilliant!! Now there is time for meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie. So Donald will come out for our cake cutting and spend some time with us and then Mickey and Minnie will come out for a meet and greet with the guests. After, we will enjoy a little late night sugar energy boost for dancing.

Bits and pieces

Now we’re really starting to get to the bits and pieces of finalizing our wedding. We still need to acquire several items, such as our guest book and card box, and make a couple of appointments, like our nails. Once we have some of the smaller details hammered out, we’ll make sure to share.

Wow, everything looks great - I especially like the lighting down the aisle! And very clever to just do a sample sizes dessert!
Are your characters wearing special costumes?
Already excited to see with what you came up for the cardbox and your nails!
Fingers crossed everything runs smoothly!

Thanks!! Mickey, Minnie, and Donald will be in their formal wear with Minnie in her white dress :). I think you were the one who pointed out dancing in long, full skirts can be challenging. Thank you for that! We've been doing a lot of practicing and making sure we are prepared to deal with dancing in giant wedding dresses haha. It is definitely challenging when two skirts are involved! I do think our first dance will not be a complete disaster though :D.

Glad I could help! I used to practice with a friend of mine - and we only wore knee length skirts, and it was definitely a challenge, even though she was the assistant teacher (and very good at dancing).
But I'm sure you two will look beautiful together!

So much to catch up on!! Your menu sounds amazing even to someone like me who doesn't have dietary issues, so I bet your guests will adore it! I'm so glad you've added characters and the ceremony decor too, it sounds like it'll be beautiful and you definitely won't regret your characters. I can't believe how close things are getting!

Thanks! We're both huge foodies even though we're vegetarian, so making sure everyone receives tasty food is very important to us. We recently saw a different set of photos with nearly the same aisle decor as us, and it just looks absolutely stunning. The picture i posted does not capture the soft glow they provide well at all. We can't wait to see how it ties in with the gazebo. We're so happy we're doing characters now too. I feel like such a dork for ever thinking I could have a Disney wedding without at least Donald. I'm just glad we realized how important they were before it was too late to ask for them.

I think of how close we are to our date and it is hard not to squeal and bounce up and down with excitement. I'm trying to get everything done and ready to go before thanksgiving so I can spend the last little chunk of time not stressing and just being excited. Not to mention, we are bringing home the newest member of our family, a little shih tzu puppy we're naming Clarabelle on the 23rd, so I want to play with her and not worry about wedding stuff haha.

Now in stealth mode!! One of our guests found our thread (who was not previously reading it)!!! If you're reading this, bad Tibbs!! ;)

This wedding has snuck up on me. It feels like just yesterday that we signed our lives away to Disney haha. In just a few short weeks, I'll be married!!!

I have updates and pictures to share on the process that I will post soon!

I so don't blame you for going stealth. I did the same thing because I didn't want anyone to stumble across it once we eventually start sending out save the dates and all that.

I can't wait to hear more, though! :yay:

I was so confused!! I thought it was a new PJ, and then I saw your name, and then I saw SBP (which of course made me think of Sea Breeze Point, being a WDW bride) and THEN I was thinking you suddenly changed venues?! Glad you still stuck around, even stealthily.

I am so excited for your wedding, I can't believe how close it's getting!

Haha sorry for the confusion!! Yeah unfortunately Sleeping Beauty Pavilion and Sea Breeze Point have the same initials. I knew the vast majority of our guests would not be able to find our PJ by name alone by using the venue initials, though it does create some confusion for Disney World brides! Now only astute guests will notice this is our PJ since my picture is of one of our dogs.

Work this week is insane and I'm hoping to be able to catch up with an update later this week. Yay deadlines!

We are essentially down to the the single digits and starting to pack up for our trip to the Disneyland Resort!!! This wedding is happening! Fast!

At this point, I'm not feeling too stressed out or worried. I have several checklists and a to do list, and everything is coming together nicely. This afternoon is my last big wedding prep push and I'm just finishing up a few minor crafts that shouldn't take too long. I'm quite happy that I pushed so hard to have as much done as soon as possible, because now I'm hitting relaxation mode haha.

Little side note: I am very sorry if any of this post is difficult to follow/missing thoughts haha. I gave myself a minor concussion Friday afternoon at work. I'm feeling tons better today, but continuing a stream of thought is still challenging.

What we have accomplished since the last post

Since the last post, we have managed to:

-Select and purchase our guestbook. This was difficult for us because we were struggling to find something that we would actually want around in some capacity and to look at in the future. Then I stumbled across http://www.guestbookstore.com. We love the pages and how they encourage our guests to do more than just sign their name.

-Acquire more books! I have nearly all the books we will need for the centerpieces for the wedding. I am quite excited to see how Kelly puts it all together!

-Order our unity glass. I am so glad another bride on here posted about the unity glass. Diana and I absolutely fell in love with it and are so excited to have such a beautiful glass piece to display in the years to come.

-Order our cake topper. Our cake topper. Oh. My. God. This was another tough one for Diana and I. We struggled for a really long time to find a topper that was not only appropriate for us, but that matched our cake as well. Then I stumbled across something wonderful on Etsy. This is the mock-up that was made. The actual product in person lights up and is just like an old school movie marquee. I have a video of it, but I'm not quite sure how to post that.

-Hair and makeup preview!! I was originally supposed to have my hair and makeup preview back in early November, but the makeup that Chelsea had special ordered for my sensitive Sally skin did not come in on time, so we had to push it back. Overall, the preview went fantastic! I'm allergic to the concealer she used, but other than that, my skin had no issues with any of the products she used :cheer2:. Here is a picture of what she is doing with my hair from the back. I forgot to bring my sparkly pins, so I had Diana put them in when I got home to get an idea of what it may look like, so the hairdo is not quite as pristine as when I first left Chelsea's since it took Diana a few attempts to get the pins in approximately the right place haha.

Sorry about the lack of pictures from the front. Chelsea needs to order a lighter shade of the special makeup for me, so my skin tone looks wrong in all the pictures from the front that I have haha.

-The seating chart aka The Battle Plans. We have a final headcount of 82 people, which means every one of our 8 tables will be full. Putting the seating chart together was a significant challenge, but we did it! There is a ton of family drama on my side, so I had to be very careful who was seated where. My family does not always know how to behave themselves, so it was very important that we avoid placing most of my family at the same tables lol. Today's challenge is making escort cards!

-The card box. This was another tough item. I was being super picky (much to Diana's annoyance) because this was an item I did not want to spend a ton of money on, but still wanted it to look relatively nice and not completely out of place. After much searching, I finally came across this Martha Stewart card box for only $10 on Thanksgiving during my online shopping perusing!

Perfect! Gets the job done and looks somewhat appropriate for our venue/decor! And I did not have to craft. Even better.

-Dresses. Our dresses are hemmed, altered, and ready to go! The only challenge we have left is dealing with the wrinkles. Since we had purchased our dresses at the Brides Against Breast Cancer event, we did not receive access to a specific bridal salon/tailoring/care type place. That left us in the dark on what to do about the wrinkles since I am VERY nervous to just bring the dress to some random person here to steam for us, and since it still has to be transported in a packed car to Disneyland. We think we're going to try steaming our own dresses since we're being told by everyone it is not too difficult as long as you're careful and basically not as big of a deal as I'm obsessing about. Hopefully this goes well!! Or we're in some serious trouble heh. Any tips from pervious experience would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated.

Other News

This summer was very tough for Diana and me. We lost two of our elderly dogs within 3 weeks of each other shortly into the wedding planning process, and it was extremely rough on both of us. Both of them were normal in the morning when we left for work, and shortly after we got home, it was evident that something was seriously wrong. We've both been struggling to cope with the loss of two of our fur children and it had cast a rather melancholy gloom over the whole wedding planning process for us.

About a month and a half after we lost our second dog, Minnie, Diana had her preview at our hair and makeup person Chelsea's house. I should note, we are extremely partial to Shih Tzus. Their size, personalities, and breed characteristics are a perfect fit for our lives. Well, turns out Chelsea has Shih Tzus and her female had just had puppies two weeks before Diana's preview. She did not have homes for all of them at that point. Of the four puppies, two were females. Well Diana came home from her preview, showed me one picture, and we immediately put a deposit down on one of the female puppies.

Two weeks ago today, we brought home the newest member of our pack, little Clarabelle. She had brought so much joy into our lives and is helping us heal from the losses of Dug and Minnie. Thus far, Clarabelle is displaying a lot of behaviors and characteristics that Minnie possessed, so in a way for us, it is like having a small part of her back.

I think this may end up being my last wedding planning overview related post before the wedding. I think the next major post I put up will be after we're married!!!

It is so great to see all your details coming together! Everything is looking beautiful :)

And your hair..... SOOO pretty

Thank you!! It took me a long time to find a hairstyle that I liked and complimented Diana's style for the wedding. Chelsea did a great job matching the picture I brought her.

Single digits!! :banana::banana: I can't believe you're so close!

I love all the little details you've accumulated and I adore the hair & makeup. I can't wait to see how beautiful you'll both look on the day of!

I'm so sorry about your concussion!! I know what it's like to be taken out of comission so close to the wedding - aka, not the best of feelings. Hope you're feeling bright and shiny for your day!

I'm so sorry about the loss of two of your fur kids so close together, I can only imagine the kind of pain that puts you through. Glad to hear your new puppy is helping to heal that hole.

hahaha 'The Battle Plans'. I don't at all envy you there, that's what I would've faced if we'd had our wedding locally and I couldn't imagine the stress of making that many people happy. And your cake topper sounds amazing! I've never seen something like that before. I know from being a guest at a whole bunch of weddings lately that the topper can be something that sticks with you if it's a good one and your guests are gonna think that's awesome. I hope you really enjoy the next few days, I'd offer advice but it really just comes down to the same things everyone always says (and they always say it because they were told that and it's impossible to follow). At the very least - I hope you're feeling all better! It's hard not to be out of sorts this close to the big day so with that on top you're doing a great job just being here

Everything looks really great! I hope you're getting well in time for the wedding.
And I'm sorry for your loss, I can totally understand you. But it's great that little Clarabelle is helping you to cope - such a cute little fur ball!

Thank you!! I'm officially banned from every ride at Dinseyland due to the concussion, but at least it is holiday season and the parks are beautiful to just walk around and look at things. Plus the holiday parade (the only parade under the sun I like haha).

We are trying so hard to enjoy ourselves right now and just relax and enjoy the fact that somewhere in the realm of less than 10 days we will be married haha. I really wish I knew how to upload a video (if you can) from my phone to show how the topper blinks! It is such a nice piece. Thank you for the well wishes!!

Thank you!! I should be fine to actually attend my wedding and relax (but not drink very much) as long as I don't jolt my head again between now and then. Diana is threatening to wrap me in bubble wrap until the wedding haha.

One small wedding related update. Our pre-reception venue was changed. As much as I would have loved for it to be outside on the Adventure Lawn, I am glad it has been moved to an indoor location. Now I don't have to worry so much about the weather or my guests freezing haha (it is so cold to us poor Californians!! low 50s to mid 40s in the evenings!! The horror!! :rotfl2:).

Thank you everyone for following along and all your well wishes! It means a lot to us. This week has been very trying for us. Beyond my bonking my noggin, it turns out someone deliberately put gas in my diesel engine sometime in the last 48 hours and now my car is in the shop getting a complete flush out of the fuel system =/. It is kind of comical though because everyone warns you about how something is going to go awry on your wedding day and you just have to let it go and enjoy the moment. No one mentioned the trials of just trying to reach the wedding day!! lol. We're really hoping we get the major stuff out of the way before the wedding and the wedding day is just minor things that ultimately I don't really care about.

Hey look! I finally learned how multi quotes in a post works! Magic!
