Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

So happy for you that you are getting some cooler temps! It really does feel amazing to run in comfortable weather when you are used to misery haha

I sure hope your heel heals quickly! I'm glad the inserts seem to be working (and you got right on with the stretching and stuff- I'm sure that has helped a ton too!).

I have given up on my continuous slow running and gone back to intervals. I decided they just make me happier. Even if I could get faster doing it the other way, I'd rather just enjoy my runs. Anyway, I've been doing 4/1, and I think I'm going to try 2/:30. I would love a pace like yours!

Sounds like you had the perfect Labor Day Weekend!

I love the puzzle. I just bought the Beauty and the Beast one, but haven't had a chance to start it yet!

Oh no! Not PF! It sounds like you are being smart about it though - I hope the inserts and the other things you are doing to treat it continue to help.

I'm becoming increasingly interested in the intervals that you use - 2:00/:30 and :90/:30. You get such great results! I think I am going to start trying something similar.

That puzzle is so pretty! :lovestruc

You know how I love interval talk! :lovestruc Doing the combination of 2:00/:30 and then :90/:30 seems to be a perfect combination for me!

Such a bummer between the knee and now PF. It does seem like this training cycle is cursed. Hang in there and keep doing the smart thing. It's sounds like you've got the right mindset. And yea for an upcoming race!

I seem to be on an every-other-year injury cycle, so while this year stinks, that should mean only good things for next year, right??? ;) Just in time for Dopey 2018 training!

So sorry about your PF, glad it seems to be improving.

I too love the Thomas Kinkade puzzles! I just finished the cinderella one but so far my favorite has been the beauty and the beast one. I also make sure to buy his paper calendar every too.

I stood in the aisle for probably 5 minutes debating back and forth between the B&B one and Mickey and Minnie. Ultimately, the classic won out.

So sorry about the foot ZellyB! I hope your stretching and the inserts do the trick for you!

Good luck with your race!

Thank you. I'm looking forward to this race. I've been out to the area where the race is and it's really gorgeous there, so hoping for a beautiful day and a good run.

Oh no not PF! I'm glad the inserts helped you though.

Thank you! :goodvibes

I just know that intervals work for me and it took a few years of tinkering with various intervals to find the right ones. It was a difficult adjustment when we changed from a 1:00 walk interval to the :30 one. Not surprisingly the change from 3 minutes running to :90 was easy! :D But, I did find once we made the adjustment, my speed definitely increased. It's funny because we went from a 3:00/1:00 to :90/:30 so the ratio of run to walk is the same and yet we still found that we could go faster. According to Galloway it is because as your walk interval lengthens the more you tend to slow down on the walk, especially as the mileage increases. He also says you get the bulk of the benefit from the walk interval in the first 30 seconds. Anyway, who really knows, but it made a big difference for us.

Ugh, sorry to hear about the PF troubles! Glad you seem to have found some things to help you get relief. Here's to speedy healing! I had a friend that swore by massaging the foot with a golf ball.

Thank you! I haven't tried a golf ball, but the frozen water bottle seems to help a lot.

For those of you who are Disney Thomas Kinkade puzzle fans, here's the completed product. :D

Oh, so cute! My daughter, Paige, wants me to mod podge it so she can hang it in her room. Not sure I'm going to do that or not, but we will see.

Getting ready for the first race we've done since April. YAY. It's just a 6 mile run (not a 10K) at this location called Top of the Rock. It's a golf course resort area opened up by Johnny Morris, the owner of Bass Pro Shops. It's located in Branson, Missouri and really does have some beautiful views.

top%20of%20the%20rock_zpsgsbscr1t.jpg

It's a hilly course that has some short amount of trail on it and a run through a cave!

Top%20of%20the%20rock%20cave_zpsds9secdw.jpg

Our plan is to take it nice and easy and just have fun and enjoy the scenery. The PF is definitely feeling better after continued stretching and icing and resting. It's quite obviously still there, but it has gotten better so I'm feeling okay that maybe I can continue fine with my training schedule
. I'll report back with a little mini race report after the run.

Wow! What a stunning view both from the golf course and through the cave. This is a run that I would definitely enjoy the view on!

First off...I want that puzzle! I have the snow white & ariel from kohls around xmas time. My family are big into puzzles.

Second....a cave run??? Sign me up please. I'll be over with my puzzles.

Run the Rock 6 miler

Mini Race Report

Saturday we woke up bright and early around 4:45 to get ready to head down to Branson, Missouri to run the Run the Rock 6 miler race at the Top of the Rock Golf Resort. We’d been told it was a beautiful course, if a bit brutal with hills, so we wanted to give it a try.

It had been raining the night before and while there was some rain threatening on the radar, it was cloudy and foggy when we pulled into the parking lot, but at least not raining. Temps were around 70 degrees and pretty humid, but otherwise fine.

The walk to the start was down a hill and about a quarter of a mile or so and we stopped off at a group of porta potties before going to the start line. While in there, Chris managed to drop his Camelbak water bottle and holder into the latrine. YUCK!!! Obviously, he did not try to retrieve it. He was not a happy camper about it, so that sort of set things off on a bad foot.

Anyway, we got up to the line up and saw a few people we know from various running groups, work etc and had a pleasant time waiting for the start. I decided in honor of the Bass Pro Shop sponsored run that I’d wear my InB Fish Tank. Chris was in his light speed shirt! Ready to go!

It was still pretty foggy at start time, but I was hoping things would clear off some so we could enjoy some of the beautiful views. There’s a really pretty stone chapel on the property where you can get married.

After listening to the race announcer speak and listening to the national anthem, we were off. The race started off on a long downhill (awesomeness) and while we had set our interval timers, we both decide to just run the downhills and walk the uphills and take things slow and easy. I can tell you, the hills on this thing were NO JOKE. A few were even difficult to walk up, so I was happy that we weren’t pushing for some time goal. I’m not sure there was more than a quarter mile in this whole thing that wasn’t either up or down hill. Much of it was rolling hills though, so those weren’t too bad. The course does a partial out and back with the turnaround at the top of a scenic overlook. This was also where the first water stop was.

It is truly a paradise type of view from the top

image_zpsqymtcb4t.jpeg

Just gorgeous – even with the clouds and fog!

After the turnaround, we retraced our steps and got rained on for a short amount of time. But, it actually felt pretty good. At one point, a volunteer directed racers down a steep hill. The hill led to a short portion of a trail, but at the bottom of the trail, we all had to stop and line up to walk down a VERY steep little hill that was a bit of a muddy mess. They were making everyone walk it basically one at a time so nobody fell – although the gal in front of us did slip and fall. Once past that little section though, we continued down a path and came upon this beautiful covered bridge.

And just around the curve from this was the entrance to the CAVE!!!

image_zpsndofnn8y.jpeg

It was a little tough adjusting to the change in light in the cave and we just walked through it as it was pretty wet and slick in there, but wow was it beautiful. Two waterfalls and you basically ran in a circle behind the waterfalls. Honestly, just amazing!

image_zps5onrbyko.jpeg

Sunlight was streaming through a crack further up in the cave

image_zpstfihifim.jpeg

After leaving the cave there was another water station and then we headed across the covered bridge. This was HIGH and freaked me out a little bit going across it.

At this point we were just a little over a mile from the finish and just feeling good. We continued on the paved path and saw a few more small waterfalls and some more gorgeous views.

Shortly after this point, the trail started back up a very steep incline to the top. There was a second covered bridge and some more pretty views as we climbed our way back up toward the finish. Once we topped the hill, we were greeted with this view.

image_zps4lkcjtzh.jpeg

Really, the most beautiful run I’ve even done – even if the hills were brutal. :) A couple more turns and we headed into the finishers shoot and got our medals.

image_zpsaiudp7dy.jpeg

Really like the medal a lot. The back of it is engraved and says “I Rocked the Rock”. We finished up with a 13:36 pace which is actually better than I thought it might be given the hills and how much we stopped. All in all this was a fun little race with some views and experiences that are really unique. If you ever happen to be in the Branson area around the first part of September, I’d highly recommend this one. The hills caused me some problems with the PF and I’m a bit sore on my foot from it today, but hoping that with resting today and tomorrow I can get back to regular training this week.

What a scenic race! So many beautiful areas to run through. Nice medal too!

Great job! I hope the rest days help your PF and you feel better.

WOW! That's an incredibly beautiful race. I think I might need to add that one to my wish list. Great job!

Loved your race report! Just The picture of the bridge freaks me I can only imagine what it was like running across it. And your medal rocks (pun totally intended :))

Gorgeous pictures!!! Hills are my weakness so I applaud you on conquering them all. Having nostalgic flashbacks to going to mammoth cave with my family a million years ago.
Have you done a true 6-miler before? Did you love it .2 more than a 10k?

(Also I'm gonna be super careful in the next portapotty thanks to this recap!)

Wow, that's an awesome course. Not sure if I'll ever be in that part of the country, but if I am I will totally have to try and schedule it around that race. It looks absolutely amazing.

Thanks! It was pretty sore yesterday, but today seems better. Planning to get back to my normal training schedule this week.

I've got a bit of a height phobia, so running across that thing spooked me. Plus the pattern on that grate sort of played with your eyes a little bit. I was happy to get off that thing.

After climbing that last hill I was very happy not to do an additional .2. :) Chris actually said he thought about how crappy (HA! see what I did there?) it would be to drop his water bottle in there just seconds before he, you know, dropped it in there. I kept thinking about what every person who used that after thought when they saw that in there. You know if they had a bottle they all tightened their grip.

Awesome job! Those pictures are amazing.

I appreciate that Chris' shoes match his top. ::yes::

I've finally started to woo him over to the pleasures of looking stylish when you run. (not really - but a girl can dream).

It really is a beautiful part of the country and the course there was just unbelievable.

Wow, gorgeous course! I also have acrophobia, so I don't know how I'd do on that bridge, especially with those grates. Well done!

That bridge seemed a lot higher once I looked down through those grates! That might not have been the smartest choice to make. ;)

Wow that race course had everything but the kitchen sink! ;) Looks absolutely gorgeous (and tough!). Here in Utah there are TV commercials for seeing the Osmond family in Branson Missouri of all things haha that's my only knowledge of Branson-- now I can add beauty to that!

I loved your race outfits too! Good looking couple alert for sure :)

HA on the Osmonds. I actually went to see a Christmas show of theirs when they first came to Branson many moons ago - sans Donny unfortunately. I had a huge crush on the Osmonds, and Donny in particular, when I was 12 - 13 years old. That would have been like 1976-77 in my defense.

Hey, no judgement here! :cool2::laughing:
