A Failure to Launch but Scaling a Mountain (aka My First Trip Report!) Updated 04/20!

Funnel Cake...mmm...I didn't get one on our trip as DBF and I weren't on the same page with our culinary desires! but next trip I won't be diverted! have you ever tried the Beavertail that used to be in the Canada pavillion at Epcot? Equally amazing!

How cool that you collected all those fastpasses, I bet it felt like VIP's using them all at once!

Love your TR so far! Your BF takes fantastic pictures! Very fun to read your TR! Your meals look great too, and I love your t-shirts you bought!

We've had a funnel cake on each of our last two trips, they're sooooo bad for you, but so good! Haven't tried the Beavertail, I'll have to put it on the list for the next trip :thumbsup2

Thanks for reading! DBF loves all the pictures I've shown him from your TR. I'm so envious, you finished one trip report just in time to start another one, it's the perfect Disney life! :lmao:

Whew, I was way way behind but all caught up now!

Sorry to hear that the launch got bumped, but you did a GREAT job of having a wonderful day anyway!

Still loving your report- looking forward to the rest, but not the end of the trip :sad2:

Thanks for coming back! We tried to make lemonade out of the lemons that became the shuttle launch.

I can't believe the TR is almost over!

i'm glad it is taking you so long to write this, because i just now found it, and am loving it!

i'm only on day 3 so far, and can't wait to read more (but right now i have to wait...silly work!)

Yes, this TR has taken me a looooong time to write. I had grand plans of writing a new chapter every few days and then, well, life has gotten in the way :lmao:

But I'm glad you've gotten the chance to join us! Thanks for reading :thumbsup2

I promise, there will be a new chapter to read today!

We last left off with a tearful rendition of Wishes! The title of this chapter is a bit sarcastic, because anyone who’s ever been to Disney World knows there’s NOTHING like the crush of humanity exiting Magic Kingdom after Wishes.

Just for a refresher, here’s what the crowd looked like that evening:
1156489753_2VdF7-L.jpg

So after the show ended, we turned up Main Street and began the slow slog toward the exit. As we got toward the front of the park, we dashed into one of my favorite spots in MK: The Confectionary Shop.

The reason for the pitstop was two-fold, 1. I desperately wanted some of the vanilla fudge I’d had on my previous trip and 2. I needed a break from the crowds. :scared1:

As we were waiting in line I found myself drooling at all the yummy concoctions in the glass case.

How cute are those apples??!?!

I ordered my fudge and a couple of the amazing cupcakes that came with a metric ton of icing on top! Franklin also wanted a rice krispie treat.

By the time we’d paid for our purchases we looked out and saw far fewer people on Main Street, so we headed back out. Little did we know that there were far fewer people on Main Street because they were ALL in line for the monorail back to the TTC.

I was a little worried about making our friends wait to pick us up and that we’d be late for our ADR at Wolfgang Puck at Downtown Disney.

But luckily it only took about 20 minutes to get on a monorail and KK and Dan hadn’t been waiting for too long.

So off to DTD we went! I had made an ADR at Wolfgang Puck Cafe, because I didn’t think we’d feel like a big, heavy meal in the upstairs dining room. Turns out I was right and we were happy to eat in the cafe.

I had scoffed at the idea of needing an ADR to eat at 9:45, but the restaurant was really busy.

All four of us were eyeing pizzas (because Wolfgang Puck is so known for yummy pizzas). But we were all pretty hungry, so we knew pizza wasn’t going to fill us up. So we chose to split a BBQ chicken pizza for an appetizer. It totally lived up to the hype, so delicious! Unfortunately, there aren’t any food porn pictures of this meal. I think we got caught up with being with our friends and forgot to take out the camera!

There was a ribs dish on the allears.net menu that I was really interested to try, but the waitress said that was taken off the menu a while back. :sad2:

KK ordered the pumpkin ravioli with brown butter sauce and fried sage, port wine glaze, pine nuts and aged parmesan.
Dan had ricotta cheese ravioli with roasted tomato and cream sauce, sausage, brocolini and toasted pine nuts.
Franklin had the oven roasted salmon with lemon parsley marinated fennel, roma tomato concasse and fingerling potatoes.
And I had the roasted chicken Alfredo.

Everything was really good, the only complaint was Franklin said his salmon was a bit dry. It wasn’t a cheap meal, but it was well worth the price.

When we got back to the hotel, being the Harry Potter geeks that we are, we popped in movie No. 3. Franklin and I shared some of the dessert goodies we’d gotten at the park with our friends. I watched some of the movie, but it wasn’t long before I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer, so I said good night and went to bed.

Only one day left on our trip! We had plans to go to Epcot for rope drop the next day, so that’s where we’ll pick up in “All Good Things Come to an End,” coming soon!

Beautiful Wishes pictures! It's such an amazing show, isn't it?

Glad you were able to make it to your ADR. We've only ever eaten at the WPE in the Marketplace, but it's one of our favorites, never fails to disappoint!

I've never been to WPE, but after our dinner at WPC, it's totally on the list for our next trip!

We woke up bright and early on Thursday, the last day of our trip. We wanted to make our very first Rope Drop at Epcot.

It was a rainy morning, drizzling on and off. I did a fist pump because this was the perfect weather to keep people away from parks. :thumbsup2

We went with the crush of people to Soarin’.

1195450949_gU4Hw-L.jpg

That is a really long march for the CM to keep everyone together in a pack.

Franklin grabbed FP’s (after waiting behind a guy who had NO IDEA what he was doing) and we hopped in the standby line. We ended up on the first “flight” of the day! In row B1 like I requested. Loved it!

Once we came out of Soarin’ we had a few minutes to kill before our FP’s kicked in, so we wandered over to Sunshine Seasons for some breakfast. We split the ginormous breakfast platter.

1195451032_jBw6o-L.jpg

Then we rode Soarin’ one more time using our FP’s and then headed out of The Land.

We walked by the Character Spot and noticed the line was pretty nonexistant, so we popped in.

Minnie liked our quasai-matching outfits!

We managed to squeeze in a couple of more single-rider rides on Test Track and made one more flight to Mars on Mission Space before it was 11:45 … it was time to head to France for lunch at Le Chefs de France.

1195451826_hcKBP-L.jpg

Franklin ordered the escargot and quiche Loraine; I went with Prix Fixe option: Onion soup, Macaroni and Cheese, and Creme Brulee (guess who ate this? That’s right, our resident Creme Brulee addict, Franklin!).

Everything was sooooo yummy, but there was waaaaay too much food!

We got out of lunch and it was POURING! Time for the ponchos! And even the driving rain couldn’t damper our enthusiasm for one of the tastiest items at Epcot ... a Grey Goose Slushie!

1195452429_BhHwz-L.jpg

We were both pretty exhausted from all our non-stop days and with the soaking rain coming down, we took the water shuttle to the front of the World Showcase.

It was 2:15, a half-hour before we were being picked up, so there was one more attraction I wanted to hit before we said goodbye to the World: Spaceship Earth.

There was no line, so I figured we were in the clear time-wise.

That was until they stopped the ride for 10 minutes, now we were cutting it really close. :rolleyes1

SE felt like the perfect finale to our trip: a classic, nothing fancy, just truly Disney.

We practically ran off the ride and out to the parking lot to meet KK and Dan, but luckily they were running even later than us, so we ended up waiting for them!

We drove to the airport to drop Dan and KK off :sad2:

On our way back to the hotel, Franklin and I stopped at one of the outlet malls because I saw they had a Tod's outlet! I have never seen a Tod's outlet and found out there are only four of them on the planet. Handbags are one of my weaknesses in life so I ended up buying this:
pG8ZeeULxBG9MEXNI84-DrbFI-3xYElvmpDAyWBfByKbD0hCf94I4TVyRMA08QEESc19zhfSYRHpIDpY6Dcw0i5WdFpxgRsfibDD3hzZFCBsewMM9K3hvvU2SNMHbVkjt26MzBOE_yBxom6CtqlZ8FPyky4-jK1dsgUK2qM5lUpClVRH9LKzFRVkASc3uXG1tFoHroqS1li2pGXvBeCEQyfRdD_M=s180

Totally budget-busting, but totally worth it because I use it EVERY DAY!

We hustled back to the hotel to pack up (which was made all the more difficult by all that STUFF we'd bought :scared1: )

And then it was time for my LEAST favorite part of any trip, the ride home! The only eventful part of flying home was the airline changing our gate three different times.

All in all it was a wonderful trip. Yes, we were bummed about the aborted shuttle launch, but we more than made up for it with fun, friends and yummy food!

There were plenty of Disney firsts on this trip (Space Mountain for me, Hall of Presidents for Franklin), but the biggest firsts for us were our park hoppers and a laid-back way of touring. Gone were the RideMax minute-by-minute touring plans, we just gave ourselves a chance to go where we wanted, when we wanted... A truly new Disney experience for us.

I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for taking the time to read this report. I owe Disboards so much for answering practically every planning question I threw at it. This is such a wonderful community and I am so proud to be a part of it! So I'll see everyone again soon on the trip planning boards and I can't wait to read all of your trip reports!

I loved your trip report !! You guys are a super cute couple and Franklin took some amazing photos. I hope you get back to Disney soon and do another trip report.

Thanks Jecskc! I can't wait to plan another Disney trip. Franklin and I are going to Europe in June, so that will be the only trip this summer/fall. Franklin's sister had a baby in February, so my (not so) secret hope is that we'll plan a trip for us and them for the baby's first birthday next February! :cool1:

What a wonderful TR and I love the Tods bag you bought. Definitely a classic that you will use for a long time! Totally worth it!

Hopefully you will get to plan another trip soon! I am hoping to go in 2012 for, well, just because. LOL. I would looooove to got for Food n Wine festival like you did.

Great report :) I have to agree with you about spaceship earth being a good last ride. A lot of times when I go to Disney we ride it as both our first and last ride of the trip. I feel like it does convey the true meaning of disney. I also love spending my last day of the trip in epcot. We ALWAYS close out the trip in epcot. There is just something so wonderful about being in epcot that last day.It is so peaceful and relaxing and conveys alot of what disney is all about. I know so many people choose to spend that last day in the magic kingdom because it is the heart and soul in Disney but for me (as much as i love the magic kingdom) it doesn't feel right to end the trip there.

I loooooooved the Food and Wine festival. It was a great time of year to go (plus you could catch one of the last MNSSHP's). Plus, the crowds were amazingly light...so light that the short park hours didn't really matter!

I can't wait to plan my next trip...who needs an actual reason to do it? :lmao:

I'm totally loving your TR, you and your sisters seem to have so much fun together!

We ended up finishing our trip at Epcot because it had the best options for lunch, but you're totally right, Epcot feels like a perfect end to the trip. One of the things I love about Epcot is that it's so wide open, no squished walkways like at DHS, AK and MK.

I just had a moment to read your last update - I'm so late, I know! But, I have to agree with you SSE, is a perfect way to end the trip! You got some adorable pictures with the characters too.

And....THAT BAG! LOOOOOOOVE IT!!!! :hyper:

Wonderful TR!! Thank you for taking the time to write it and share with all of us!

I really enjoyed your trip report! The pictures are beautiful and make me wish I was leaving on a trip to Florida tomorrow.....
