The Polynesian Villas & Bungalows was the first DVC without any 1-bedroom units, as all twelve prior DVC resorts offered 1-bedroom units (either as dedicated 1-BR units or as part of a Lock-Off).

I’ve heard it said that, generally speaking, the 1-BR units in DVC resorts are the last type of room to get fully booked, which makes sense given that a studio can hold the same number of people as a 1-BR for a whole lot less points. People say that the studios generally book faster than 2-bedroom units, which book faster than the 1-bedroom units. Obviously, there are exceptions to that when you take into consideration some types of rooms. For example, the Concierge-level 1-BR units at AKV are snapped up before the regular studios at AKV.

So, I'm interested to find out which room types are the most popular (even if the folks here may not be representative of DVC membership as a whole).

What room sizes do you usually book for your DVC trip, and for how many people?

Even though we only have 3 people, a studio isn't really an option for us. We need our space, and my son is a super picky eater, so I need that kitchen. I guess if the studios are the first to go, that would explain why we have never had trouble booking the 1 bdrm we want, even at the 7 month window! I was wondering about that.

When my daughters went with us, we booked a 2BR for the four of us. Now that it is just DW and me on most of our trips, we book a 1BR for the two of us. For us, having the extra space, two televisions and a washer/dryer in-room make the 1BR our villa of choice. I don't see us booking at the Poly for that reason. I guess it will remain the only WDW DVC we haven't stayed at.

For us it is determined by our length of stay. The longer the bigger accommodations we like.

We did 1 bedrooms for the first few years, but now just do studios. Found that we didn't really use the kitchen.

1 bedroom for the 2 of us - part of why we bought DVC was the "no fuss, no muss" (i.e. no messing around trying to find room discounts) approach to booking and to have a king bed, shower, separate tub, and lots of space to relax and spread out in. The more we go, the less time we spend in the park and the more time lounging about in the room. We are no longer park commandos.

We have enough points to do 10 nights each year in a 1 bedroom (alternating our home resorts, so enough for each resort every other year). When we do "bonus" trips, we get studios to save points: we did 5 nights at Grand Cali in May and will be spending 5 nights at SSR this January.

We do a split of things:
If just the two of us or me and a friend we do a Studio
If we do the three of us (including our DD) we tend to do a 1BR.
If we do the three of us plus the MnL for four total, we still do a 1BR, but prefer BLT or AKV for the 2nd bathroom
If we do more than 4 it's a 2BR.

We've never done a 3BR Villas given the point requirements but would really love to.

We always book 1 BRs over studios, even when it's just the two of us. We really enjoy the space and kitchen. In addition, I do a lot of business travel and often stay in studio type accommodations, so the last thing I want to do is stay in a studio. If there are more than the two of us, we book a 2 BR or GV depending on the # of people.

There are 3 of us, and now that DD is 15, we just did an add on to move from 1BR to 2BR. The second bathroom and her own room gives us back the LR to relax in.

Originally a 2 bedroom for 5 but our nest is sadly emptying so next trip a 1 bedroom for 3. As our points were bought for 2 bedrooms and once not tied to school schedules we will be able to go for about 3-4 weeks in a 1 bedroom I don't see us ever using studios. I love having laundry facilities and we use the kitchen

We just have one child, do a 1 bedroom is perfect for us. But someday if she brings a friend, we may splurge for a 2 bedroom.

I don't see us using a studio, we like the kitchen and the separate bedroom.

We have almost always done a studio for just the 2 of us, but now that we are adopting 2 girls I have been booking 1 bedrooms for our upcoming vacations with them.

We are a family of 3 and we usually book studios because we go twice a year at the most expensive times. We need to stretch our 300 points :).

We frequently bring friends or family, so it is usually a 2BR for us. When it's just the 3 of us for fewer than 4 days, we may do a studio, but we really like having the extra room that a 1 or 2BR offers. With a large group, Kidani or BLT are our favorites, given the third full bathroom. We have yet to stay in a GV.

Even when it is just DH and me, I book a 1 bedroom. I bought DVC for that extra space and have happily gotten quite spoiled.

Us as well - a regular hotel room seems small! We did a studio at Grand Cali in May and, although we had a great trip and would do it again in a heartbeat, it felt cramped to us! The extra space to spread out is also part of why we bought in. The W&D are nice perks that we under anticipated when we bought in but now we love the convenience.

We are "points challenged" with only 250 points so we book studios for the 3 of us. It allows us to have either 1 long trip or 2 week long trips per year. We have to stretch our points as far as we can. I have no desire to cook anything in the room other than a quick breakfast in the toaster or microwave so don't need the kitchen. We stayed in a 1 bedroom only once when we had to switch gears and book at the very last minute so that's all that was available. It was nice to have the W/D and the king size bed but DS still had to sleep on a pullout so we wouldn't switch our planning just for the W/D & king bed. I don't think we own enough points to even consider the 2 bedrooms...

I'm glad people are choosing one bedrooms even if it is just for two people. :)

That's what we do too!! We love the space, and since we aren't at the parks the second they open until extra magic hours, we love love love to lounge around the resorts. I'm glad to read that others are similar...

We prefer longer stays over larger villas, so I book studios for my family. Three adults in a studio has worked out fine for us at AKV and VGF.
