3/2/2003 Wonder Cruise, Who's Going?

I've begun the long process of packing for 4 people who don't know they are going away...arranging people to cover my work..and someone to housesit and watch the dog....

So, much to do and so little time....

Plus I need to figure out how to make up 16 hrs of work that I have missed this week due to snow and sick kids....

I need a vacation...:D :D :D

Hi, I think I am ready!! Went shopping got everything out and it is ready to put in suitcase!!!!

Now all I have to get is some money out of the bank,

Hey anyone know what a good brand or what type digital camera to buy. I would like to get this weekend. Does anyone not like digital cameras.

Help
:smooth:

mommysharon,

since you are thinking about going digital (and they are LOTS of fun)... let me give you my pro's and cons..

First, the pro's of digital cameras to me are:
1)immediate results (you get to see the pic right away, and if it didn't come out you delete it, and take it again)
2)they are digital, so for archival purposes, they will be safe, and you can do a lot with them--burn them onto cds, and send them to friends/family, email them, make a web site, etc.
3)with good software, you can really enhance and do cool things with the photos.
4)no processing necessary

The cons.. of digital cameras to me are:
1)Limited storage space--you have to keep in mind that 64 mb (still pretty pricey memory storage) only holds about 100 photos.
2)Initial cost--a good compact digital camera, with good depth of field, and the memory cards are costly at first
3) cost of hard copies--you can get glossy prints of your pictures, but they can cost up to .25 cents a print at some places.

As to what brand? It's hard to say.. what you need to consider when purchasing is, how compact it is, the memory storage question, and it's depth of field, also how it is powered, etc...

update packing lists
get Rx meds
update luggage tags
charge digital and Camcorder batteries
pack dog's stuff for dogsitters

I am seriously lusting for a Nikon D100 and may buy one before the cruise. I love shooting pictures!

I just bought an Olympus 4000. I bought it off ebay. I really like it. Pictures are great and I like to edit out the bad stuff. It also takes a mini movie too. I also got a HP 7350 printer to print out the shots. My camera came with a 128 card and a 16 mg card. That will give me over 140 shots. I'm bringing my laptop to download the pics each day, if needed.

8 days and counting!!!

Left to do - get out my clothes (the kids' are all ready to pack), get money (some small bills for tips), fill out docs, make sure we have everything and pack it all! Pray for no new storms so we get out of town next Saturday.

DizKid - my dh has his list on his laptop - I kid him about it before each trip - he has to plan out down to the socks what he's bringing - and have it on the list. I just stand in front of my clothes and figure it out by laying them all out! Of course, I have to pack for 3 people - he's only got himself to worry about - good thing!

Sharon - I have an Olympus D520 zoom and I love it. Costco has them for a little over $200 I think. You can get a 128 mb card for another $50 or so. I use mine on the 2nd highest resolution and can get 260 pictures on a card (I have 2 cards). The pictures look fine - I've tried the highest res. but there's not a huge difference - not for everyday shots. Maybe for an extra special family portrait or something. Not worth the extra memory it takes to me. I upload my pictures to Photoworks and they charge .19 a print. The best part is you only order the ones you want or you can just print them at home. I like to make a collage of pictures after a trip as a keepsake - since they are right on the PC, it's easy to do with photo software.

We are SOOOOO ready!

Kimball - are we all supposed to bring green ribbons (is that right?) or will you be there with your banner?

Georgianne

Thanks alot, this helps me alot!!

Got the kids all packed today and me,( just about.)

Now time to shop for that camera.

I was dissapointed that the disney store didn't have their bathing suits out yet. My god daughter really wanted a new to take with her.

:earsgirl:

It's getting closer!!!!:earsgirl: :teeth: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :sunny:

Still need to do the major packing... but procrastinating is so much fun, maybe if I could get off this dang computer some, I might be able to pack :)

Yippie, HIP HIP HOORAY... YA HOO!! We are all going on a disney cruise in a week!

Anyone have plans for Nassau day? I am thinking of just heading into Atlantis for a while... Is the Aqaurium really worth it? I have an annual pass to Sea World, is it comparable? or a not to be missed thing? I will still probably go to the resort and casinos, just trying to decide if I should splurge for the tour.

I've heard that the aqurium is quite wonderful...I've seen stuff on TV and it does look amazing...but unfortuneately not in our budget...We are alas staying on the ship in Nassau....

Hoping for warm weather and a little time by the pool without crowds.....

Almost there and I'm no where near ready....

We're Packing!!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

That means it's just around the corner!!

Still got a few items to pick up, but this is a start.

We even cleaned out the closet and dresser while we were at it. Got rid of our "fat" clothes and old stuff. It's spring cleaning in Feburary.
