We had a VIP viewing for wishes included with our package, so watched Wishes from MK then walked to contemporary for our 9:40pm reservation.
We checked in, and as usual for Cali Grill were told they were running about 20 minutes behind. We went up to restaurant which was busy but the lounge wasnt that crowded so we were able to grab a table while we waited. I ordered a Golden Gate which was very good, a mix of Remy VSOP, amaretto, cranberry, and orange juice, while DH ordered a glass of Malbec which was also very good.
We were sat around 10:10, in the wine room at the back, at a nice corner table. We were able to watch the Electric Water Pageant while waiting to order.
Service very good, possibly best of the trip so far. Our server paced the meal well, was always available when needed and had a good understanding of the menu and wine lists.
For my appetiser I chose the Dungeness Crab stack. This was wonderful, plenty of fresh crab meat, paired nicely with chunks of avocado, chopped tomatoes and olive oil based dressing. A nice light starter.
DH had seafood roll, sushi roll filled with crab meat and avocado, topped with salmon, avocado and some type of white fish. This was very good sushi, the fish was very fresh and melted in your mouth, the rice was well seasoned and had a great texture to it. It was served with a sour cream based dip as well as traditional soy sauce.
For my entree I chose the classic pork with goats cheese polenta, mushrooms and red wine sauce. As usual this was amazing, perfectly pink, tender pork,a strong goats cheese flavour in the polenta which worked well with the sauce and pork. I couldnt finish it but it was really good, definitely one of my favourite WDW entrees.
DH chose yellowtail snapper, served with sugar snap peas and dungeness crab risotto. The risotto was delicious, creamy sauce, soft rice and had a strong crab flavour. The snapper was very well cooked, and the sugar snap peas added a little bite to dish.
I was too full for dessert but DH ordered the strawberry rhubarb cobbler. Like the other course this was very good, plenty of tart fruit, topped with plenty of crumble, not an overly sweet dessert but it worked well with the smooth vanilla ice cream.
Overall we had a very nice meal here, the restaurant emptied out and quietened down while we ate and there were only a few people left when we finished around 11:15. We experienced very good service and food, and it was a lovely way to finish our stay at beach club.
