Usually during my lunch breaks I catch up on the board here and try to read a couple trip reports...no trip reports today! I was moved by what you shared today, Dee about your father and his work on the USS Thresher. So spent about 30 minutes reading about the tragedy and learned quite a bit about that test. I used to work in the test environment and was surrounded by all those brave men and women who risked their lives to make sure we had the latest and greatest war fighting systems to help keep us safe. I salute your father!!!

Thank you everyone who liked or commented about my dad's story.

He doesn’t talk a lot about it, and certainly hasn’t shared his emotions about what happened, but my dad is one of the most compassionate and caring men I know, so the incident surely has been a difficult one for him to live with.

I am thankful on the most existential of levels that my dad was not lost on the Thresher. I would not be here if he had been on the sub that day.

I am very blessed to have my dad. The best qualities in me- my strength, my sense of humor and a compulsion to help others- all come from him. Although there are a few things I wish I hadn’t inherited. I’m looking at YOU horrid sense of direction and hoarding tendencies. :lmao:

Now that he is no longer driving he commented that he owes me for all I am doing for him. I shook my head and told him "We are not even close to even"

Thanks for letting me share with you.

PHEW!!! I think I am finally caught up here! (For now). But I haven't been over to the trip report boards recently, or updated my two trip reports in about a month.

:scared1:

Our trip is this Wednesday!

We will be staying at the swan for 3 nights, then Saturday of mem. day weekend hopping over to the bcv for our week stay.

I WILL be asking, nicely I may add, to have access to the showers. As a paying guest, with an evening flight of 9pm I need to shower before our flight. I've never had an issue at the WL, and I specifically chose a late flight b/c I knew we would be at a Disney deluxe resort with gym showers. Had I known there was some sort of new policy I would have chosen an earlier flight. Our plan of action is to hang at sab all afternoon on our last day....Trust me, no one wants my family on that plane smelling like a pool! I have found that a friendly attitude and a smile go a LONG way, esp. at Disney. Those that expect and are nasty don't necessarily get their way. being friendly says a lot.....

Like, today??? Have a fantastic trip!

I think that is an excellent plan. And just in case you missed it, someone posted subsequently that they think you can talk with the front desk (manager, concierge) to request use of the health club shower if you arrange it in advance.

This is our first time at the bcv! Our second time at the beach club, it was 10 years ago our last stay. We love the area & the kids LOVE the pool! We were able to rent points. Did I read somewhere that at the villas, they can provide an air mattress at your request? My kids may NOT be liking sleeping together, esp. if the pull out couch is end of use as some of the threads I have been reading say about the soft goods....

I don't think the resort provides them and unfortunately you can't request a rollaway for the villas.

:)

Hello - :) We are planning to stay there next year right before our cruise(April 9, 2016). I was thinking Port Orleans, but we are looking to switching to Beach club resort.

I'll pencil you in on the Be Our Guest list.

:goodvibes:

Transportation question, and I completely understand that it can very greatly depending on the day/time of year etc.

What have people's experiences been taking the bus to Typhoon Lagoon in the morning from BC? Anyone gone in the early afternoon (again from BC)? Or later from Epcot (as I understand it departs from there after 2pm)? How about the return trip at TL close (5 or 6pm), is it still one bus back to Epcot? What times have you experienced?

Secondary question: For a fast, fit walker aprox. how long does it take to cross from BC (IG entrance) to the front of EP?
Thanks in advance.

BUMPING this up!

I don't know about TL transportation.

I think I could get from the BC to the front of EPCOT in about 25 minutes with no delay at the IG and no stopping along the way.

::yes::

BC Garden View

Thanks for the reply regarding the GV rooms the other day.

From the sounds of it there may not be any that will take a daybed or rollaway. We won't be CL and I'm worried that these rooms may be smaller if they won't take a rollaway or have daybed.

I might just book the SV again and request Epcot end. BC were great on our last trip in changing our room due to a funny smell! But I don't want to take the chance of booking GV and not being able to get the other bed in and there not being any other rooms. Aaaargh I don't know what to do. Or I book YC as the website on Disney UK says the GV sleeps 5. Is the YC further away from the pool?

Thanks again.

Although it depends on the location of your actual room, in general, the YC and BC are the same distance from Stormalong Bay- different entrances/sections of the pool, though. The sandbar area is closer to YC. The lazy river is about in the middle and the activities pool and the Jib Slide are closer to BC.

:)

Yes this helps a lot thank you. It's only about £50 more for the GV so we might go for it.

Do you know if rooms facing Epcot near the secret entrance class as GV? No big deal if we don't get that area. What would a GV area view be? Is overlooking the back or could we be over the front entrance?

Thanks again.

Yes, I am pretty sure the rooms facing EPCOT near the secret entrance are GV/Woods View (although some may be SV). I'm not aware of any GV rooms looking over the front entrance, but there are some that have a view of the back entrance courtyard.

:)

Hi everyone,

We are staying in a garden view room in July and would ideally want a refurbished room as close to Epcot as possible. The floor doesn't matter to us.

What should my room request be please?

Many thanks in advance

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1 of this thread.

:cool1:

Suggested request is "Upper floor, close to EPCOT please"

:thumbsup2

Good morning BC friends from rainy Boston!!

Just thought I would brighten up this gloomy Tuesday with a pic my DD took on our walk over to the Boardwalk last trip. One of our favorites. I hope you all have a phenomenal day!!

Just popping in to say we have finally hit single digits for our first YC stay!!!!

Thanks so much to all of the contributors on this thread, you have provided me with a wealth of information, preparing me for my first stay off the monorail :) The kids cannot wait to check out SAB, and I cannot wait to try a Sunken Treasure!!

This is seriously one of the nicest threads on the DIS and I hope you don't mind if I hang around long after our trip is over!! I'll be sure to post an update once my Disney Depression has passed :)

Thank you all again :disrocks:

Yes! Absolutely stick around.

There's some favorites that DH no longer enjoys like Ohana and Chef Mickey, one bad experience is all he needs LOL I can't wait to finally try BC!!!

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences at old favorites:( Our first dinner at Chef Mickey's was really good, but the next two times were awful...so we won't go back there either. We had one bad experience at 'Ohana (late night ressie) but didn't give up on it and have had many great dinners since then...so maybe you should try it again?? As for BC, I've only stayed there once, but we had a great time so I'm CRAZY excited about my trip NEXT WEEK! We are actually coming in early to do some shopping at the Vineland outlet mall so we leave next Thursday!!:)

Dee. I'm on the BOG list and I know you're very busy. So whenever you get to it, if you wanted to be more specific. We will be staying Beach Club Concierge Level on June 18-27. Just a HU.

Oh and BTW, thank you so much for maintaining the board. There is like a full books worth of information on those first couple of pages.

I think I can speak for most when I say that even though I probably don't need to know about 60-70% of the stuff that is there, I'm glad that there is this one incredibly informational spot for everything having to do with these two incredible sister resorts!

We have a 9:30pm reservation at 'Ohana...been trying to get an earlier one...no luck yet! Curious about your experience...do they still do the games that late? I heard they do pipe the wishes music in when the fireworks start...and if you have a window seat you can get a good look at the show. Thoughts?

Hi everyone

Can someone explain the thermostat situation at the beach club? I understand its on a motion sensor and the air only comes on when there is motion. What about being able to raise the thermostat? I am always cold and it's important to me to be able to raise it if I need to. And is it the same at yacht club and other disney resorts?

Thanks so much for the kind words. We are very lucky to have an amazing group of knowledgeable contributors here who have helped me to provide such detailed/up-to-date info.

We are coming to the YC May 27-31 Garden View room. Would you add us to the BOG list? Thank you for the wonderful thread - It is so informative!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list.

Glad you have found this thread to be helpful.

Here's a picture of the thermostat from one of the renovated BC rooms. I don't think I have one from a non-renovated room- does anyone know if it is the same type of control unit?

I always leave it up to my roommates to set or adjust the thermostat so I can't answer your question, but hopefully one of our friends here will have info for you.

We had a refurbished room at the BC last month and we could adjust the thermostat to whatever temperature we wanted. We noticed that the temp would drop down to 68 in the middle of the night, we usually had it around 71, which I think was the motion detector kicking in. But other than that, we didn't have any problem with keeping the room at the temp we wanted. :)

When we came back to the room after being away for hours, the room was always cool. The air doesn't turn off when there is no one in the room. It seems to be on a default setting so that it stays comfortable. I thought it was a nice improvement over the old dial thermostat.

OK, folks, here's the "inside scoop" on the thermostat...my daughter is a Honeywell bigwig, and I sent her an email asking if this was one of theirs...here's her reply:

"It is – It’s actually an INNCOM thermostat (which we own) – INNCOM is the leader in controls in the hospitality space. It has a sensor (on the stat) and there may be another one in the room so when the room is unoccupied it sets back. Same thing for when you walk into the room – as soon as it picks up movement, it will run to hit the set point and yep, you can turn it up/down/fan just like any other one. They are very nice stats."

So...there you have it....right from the horse's mouth...

What a riot!!!

This is why I love this thread. You never know what kind of inside scoop you will get.

Thanks for posting this.

On my way to airport ... Florida here I come. Lily started a normal "cold" on Friday and I normally don't catch stuff from her but on Saturday she was on the sofa with me and talking right close to my face and sneezed and of course I was "soaked" ... so I said to myself, "there is no way you are not catching what she has now" and true to form it started Tuesday night. Not looking forward to flying with all this congestion. Downing Zicam every 3 hours so hopefully that will shorten the duration of this thing.

Can't wait to get back to the Beach Club on Sunday and Monday!!

Try taking a Sudafed and also I think Sinex can help :) I hope you don't have too much discomfort on the flight. I know how that can be.
