1st Trip as Mommy & Daddy! Celebrating DSs 1st Bday Nov 11-UPDATE 11/13 TR LINK!

I usually try to stay away from buffets because I never eat my money's worth at them, but breakfast is usually a little easier to take on than lunch or dinner for me. You will love being in the park before opening...it is so surreal how calm and quiet it is! Hopefully DS will enjoy the characters so that we can all 3 have a good meal without too much freaking out! :thumbsup2
I tend to agree with the buffets not being worth the money, but I'm kind of looking at it a little bit differently now. With DS going, he'll be able to eat off our plates at the buffets, while if we were eating elsewhere, we'd probably go ahead and get him his own kid's meal.:confused3 On top of that, I think it will be easier going to buffets with him because we'll be able to get food right away and we're less likely to have to deal with an impatient, hungry toddler. :lmao: The characters walking around causing a distraction might help some too.:thumbsup2

DAY 6 - November 10th

This day is kind of still up in the air. In my itinerary, I have it as an MK day all day just because I think that's where we will have the most attractions that the 3 of us can experience together. However, if we feel like there is any park we have not spent enough time in (I'm thinking that might end up being AK since we are only spending one day there), we can substitute it in as needed for a morning or afternoon. But for now, the plans are...

Image0546.jpg

...Magic Kingdom!

Maybe rope drop, but maybe just when we feel like getting up and heading over there. :goodvibes Breakfast will be in the room more than likely.

Since this will be our 3rd day in the MK, we can ditch the touring plan and do whatever sounds good at the time. By this point, we should have been able to accomplish everything we wanted to do, so maybe we can spend more time tracking down characters (if DS is into them), or meandering around the park taking it all in.

The MK does have morning EMH this morning, but like I said, we should have accomplished everything we set out to do, so avoiding things with longer waits shouldn't be too difficult.

If we end up at MK again, lunch will more than likely be at another of our enjoyable CS locations, Pecos Bill's.

PecosBills-91809-3967.jpg

After lunch sometime, it will be back to the resort for a break/nap and maybe a swim if the weather permits.

My two choices for after our break are...

1. Head back to MK.

My main reason for doing this would be to experience the Main Street Electrical Parade...

IMG_4818.jpg

...and Wishes, my favorite nighttime show!

IMG_1961.jpg

I don't know how well DS will tolerate fireworks, or being in the parks that late, so surely by the end of the week we should know if it's ok to attempt the nighttime displays or not.

Or...

2. Hollywood Studios

The one and only reason for doing this would be to experience the Osbourne Lights since we only have 2 nights we would be able to see them.

Image2210.jpg

My reservation about doing this is it is the opening night of the lights, so I know the crowds will be big. But whichever night we do them, we will probably have to attempt them at the beginning of the night when the crowds are heavier anyway, so that might not even matter. I guess it will be one of those things that we will have to wait until the actual day to decide what we want to do. If we go back to MK, we will just see the O Lights on Friday night instead. Like I said, I know we can probably count on crowds whichever night we decide on, but the O Lights are a must!

Which plan do you think would be better for the afternoon? I'd love some Disney planners' opinions!!

In non-Disney news, another big event is quickly approaching...

DS's 1st birthday!

His birthday party is scheduled for October 22nd (his actual birthday is the 24th), and (no flaming please! :rotfl:) is going to be Elmo themed. I will share the cute little story of how we came to that decision.

I'll set it up by saying DS had just recently learned to clap. So I was searching around online for Mickey Mouse 1st birthday supplies, MM cakes, the whole 9 yards. When I mentioned it to DH that afternoon, he suggested we should do an Elmo party since DS just loves all things Elmo and Sesame Street right now. He then proceeded to ask DS, "Do you want an Elmo party?" to which DS laughed and clapped. I asked him if he wanted a Mickey Mouse party with no response. DH asked him again did he want an Elmo party, and DS clapped and laughed again. So from there it was settled, Elmo party it is!

We ordered him some adorable custom invitations from ebay. She charged about $13 to make the file for us, then sent us the picture for us to print ourselves wherever we wanted. We got them printed at Wal-Mart for a little more than $4. Not bad, and they came out so cute! We could also email the file to people instead of having them printed if we had wanted to, but I still wanted to do them the traditional way. :thumbsup2

PaxtonInvitecopy-jpg.jpg

And these are the party supplies we decided to go with.

446563F_full.jpg

I liked that they were for a 1st birthday without being the baby Elmo character in a diaper. That just turns me off for some reason!

We also ordered 2 shirts for him from Stitcheroos that just shipped today, one for his birthday party and one for us to take on vacation with us! I can't wait for them to come in. I will be sure to post some pictures!

And finally, we went ahead last week and ordered some pressure reducing earplugs for Paxton for the plane ride, and also some ear protection earmuffs for him to wear if we do decide to stay for the fireworks any nights. He was all to happy to model them for me too!

Wow, one already! Time sure flies, doesn't it.

I think you have just the right attitude for your trip to "take it as it comes".

I agree with your O-light assessment. Probably will have big crowds those first few days. Just brace yourself for the crowds. I'm sure the little guy will love the lights more than the fireworks. (Though still might not like how LOUD it is...our DD still doesn't like a lot of shows because they are so loud.)

I like you plans. As important as it is to have a touring plan to ensure that you can get to everything you want to do, I always appreciate having a day or 2 to just go with the flow and do whatever we feel like doing. I don't think you need any input on your afternoon evening plans... you'll figure it out.:thumbsup2

Paxton looks all too happy to be showing off his ear protection. He surely doesn't like attention or getting his picture taken does he? :lmao::rotfl2:

Yes, 1 already! It's really amazing how this year has flown by. We are only 3 weeks away from his birthday now. Seems like not too long ago, we were bringing him home from the hospital.

I think if it was our very first time seeing the Lights, I'd be a lot more stressed about the crowds. DH and I have both enjoyed them without crowds, and DS will enjoy them no matter how many people are around, and that's all that counts. :thumbsup2

He is so cute and getting so big. Its crazy how a year flies by so fast!

You are so totally right about that!!

Yeah, we will do a lot of figuring it out as we go along, I figure. :thumbsup2 I always seem to do best on our Disney trips going hardcore the first few days and getting everything done on our to-do list, so the last few days can be whatever we want to do or re-do. It's worked well in the past, hopefully it will continue! :goodvibes

No, he definitely does not enjoy attention. I bet you can tell from the pics how little attention he gets from everyone, especially me & DH! ;)

DAY 7 - November 11th

Our last full Disney day. :( We will not be going to a park this morning. Instead, we will be tackling the 2 events that decided the dates for this trip for DH and I.

We will have a "sleep in" morning (which really just means there will be no alarms set, we are up by 7:15 at the latest every day!), and have some breakfast in the room. Our destination for most of the day will be Downtown Disney!

IMG_4427.jpg

Our objective for the day is to spend the morning exploring the booths at Festival of the Masters. We heard about this on a podcast, and both thought it sounded interesting. We are both most looking forward to seeing the sidewalk chalk are around the Marketplace, since we will probably not be purchasing much of the Disney art...the stuff we usually like the most is usually way out of our price range, unfortunately!!

DIsney-Festival-of-the-Masters.jpg

disney-festival-of-the-masters-2010-1.jpg

Lunch will more than likely be at an old favorite, Earl of Sandwich.

IMG_4452.jpg

The only other option I can think of may be Wolfgang Puck Express, which we have never tried but I have always been interested in.

I have no idea how long we'll spend at DTD, but at some point in the afternoon we'll head back to Bonnet Creek for a break/nap, and probably get a majority of our packing done. :(

Our (tentative) plans for the evening are to head back to Hollywood Studios for the Osbourne Lights!

IMG_2410.jpg

Image2254.jpg

We absolutely loved the lights 2 years ago, and we are very much looking forward to seeing them again and sharing them with DS. If there is anything else we wanted to do in DHS, we'll get those done in the late afternoon/early evening, and try to head over to the lights after they have been on for a little while.

We expect there to be a lot of people...after all, not only is it a Friday night, it is also the second night of the lights for the season. So it definitely will be a different experience, considering the streets were nearly empty by the time we left last time. But I'm excited to see them dance again, and I know DS will enjoy it, no matter how many people he is sharing space with. :)

Of course, that is only the plan if we have not already done the lights the night before. That's still kind of up in the air at this moment.

If we do the Lights on Thursday night, then Friday night can just be whatever we feel like, whether that is hitting another park or staying at Bonnet Creek for the evening. At that point in the trip, we might be more up for a night in and renting a movie or something!

Whatever we decide to do, we will not be out too late since we will have to be up in enough time Saturday morning to finish packing and check out of the resort by 10 am. :sad1:

I wanted to include just a couple posts as a quick "trip report" of the weekend we spent in New Orleans! DH and I had our 4th wedding anniversary at the end of September, but we were unable to celebrate since we took turns battling a mean little stomach bug. Between that and my work schedule, we were finally able to plan something for this past weekend. None of these pictures from Saturday are mine, I found them on the Internet because we were not carrying our camera around.

Saturday morning, we got up and hit the road for my parents' house to drop DS off for his very first away from Mommy & Daddy sleepover! They were very excited to finally have him over since they have asked many many times for this to happen, but I just wasn't ready for him to be away from home without me yet.

We dropped him off around lunchtime, then drove downtown. It was too early to check in to our hotel, so we parked at the garage behind the hotel and set off on foot for the French Market to do some shopping!

FrenchMarketInNewOrleansLA.jpg

So many of the booths have the same t-shirts, knockoff bags, jewelry, etc., that we kind of walked through pretty fast. We did stop for awhile at one vendor who takes pictures of different signs and highlights in New Orleans, mounts them on stone and makes coasters and trivets out of them. I really loved them, but they were too expensive to buy just 1 or 2, and the price was cheaper if you bought 4, but DH and I didn't see 4 we really loved and felt we needed to have. They were really cool looking though!

By the time we finished up there and stopped in a few stores along the streets, we got back to our home for the night just in time for check-in. We were staying at the Roosevelt Hotel. The lobby is just beautiful!!

roosevelt1.jpg

roosevelt2.jpg

We made our way up to our room on the 11th floor to drop off our things and get freshened up for church. We had thought about going to 5 pm Mass at St. Louis Cathedral, but my mom told us there was actually a church literally across the street from our hotel. So we went to 4 pm Mass at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church. Absolutely beautiful!!

i-2007-04-04-190411-7013-image2.jpg

Our room was actually overlooking the church. After Mass, we hit Bourbon St. in search of dinner. We walked up and down the street, stopping to look at menus along the way, but not finding much to interest us. We almost stood in a VERY long line to eat at Acme Oyster House, but luckily, we stumbled upon Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse instead and were early enough that we were seated right away! I had the 8 oz filet, and DH had a 6 oz filet with crab meat and Bearnaise sauce on top, and a fried soft shell crab on the side, and we shared some lobster mac & cheese. It was absolutely divine! A very happy accident, for sure.

After dinner, we stopped in one of the daiquiri shops on Bourbon to get me my very first alcoholic beverage since before I got pregnant with DS! :woohoo: It tasted 10 times better for that reason alone. We walked down to the casino for a little while, but didn't do much gambling, then walked back to the hotel to call it a night. We are not night owls anymore, that's for sure!

The next morning, we were up and moving by 7:45 am (late for us! lol) for my one request for the weekend, breakfast at Cafe du Monde!

2006_11_cafe_du_monde_outside.jpg

We each had an order of beignets and a chocolate milk, which were heavenly. I heard the lady next to us ordering some without powdered sugar and though she was nuts! That's the best part! Here's the pic I made everyone on Facebook jealous with that morning...:rotfl:

311345_650645504836_80500911_33515803_664938491_n.jpg

Apparently we had gotten there just in time, because the line waiting for a table was down the block by the time we left!! Popular thing to do for breakfast obviously.

We got back to the room to finish packing and check-out, then headed to the Audubon Zoo to meet up with my mom, Paxton, and sister and DH's dad & dad's girlfriend. DS was so excited to see us after not seeing us for over 24 hours, which made me one happy momma!

We got back to the elephant section just in time for the end of their show. We were kind of far back, so it was hard to much, but it was a cute little performance.

IMG_7123.jpg

DS petting a snake!

We got to the petting zoo area, and there was a little overturned log decorated with fake fall leaves for kids to crawl through and see what it's like for small animals that live in "log homes." As much as I hated my child crawling on the ground, I knew it would make a cute picture & be perfect for the scrapbook, so I allowed it! lol

We made it to the Primates section in time for feeding time, so we got to see them feed the orangutans, which was pretty neat.

This guy is 300 lbs...guess he eats a LOT!

I remember climbing on this tree as a kid...can't wait until DS is old enough to!

Having fun :-)

Monkey Hill, another thing I can't wait to share with DS! It's literally a man-made hill created to give kids the experience of playing on a hill, since we don't have them down here. lol

It was a great day at the Zoo and the weather couldn't have been more perfect! I have been wanting to take DS for a long time, and it was worth the wait. He had fun, and knocked out in the car before we even got out of the parking lot.

UP NEXT: Departure day plans

P.S. We are leaving in exactly 3 WEEKS!!!

We are not night owls anymore, that's for sure!
Funny how quickly that changes, isn't it? :lmao:

Looks like a fun weekend. I'm sure it was nice for you and your DH to have a little time away to yourselves. The grandparents probably weren't too upset about having to watch Paxton for a night.:rotfl2:

It was really nice to have a little time to be adults and not worry about strollers, feedings, diaper bags, and all that other fun stuff that goes along with a baby! My parents were definitely not complaining because they have been dying to have him overnight for a long time. In fact, my mom just sent me a text this morning putting in her "request" to have DS for a couple of days during thanksgiving week...we'll see on that one I guess. :rotfl:

So we are officially two weeks out from our trip, and I got the dreaded crowd tracker update email from Touring Plans that no one wants to see!!

We had planned on spending most of Sunday at MK, and getting DS's first haircut that day. Monday we would be at DHS for rope drop and stay there until early afternoon. Now, MK is no longer a best park on Sunday, but the park crowd level didn't increase all that much. No big deal. However, now DHS is a park to avoid on Monday! That's really a bummer. I was going to flip flop the two days, but not only do we have the reservation for his haircut (at the perfect time of day), we also have our Sci-Fi reservation on Monday. :scared1: What to do, what to do.

Instead of panicking and trying to change everything, I think I'm just going to take a deep breath and move ahead with our plans. The haircut is an important part of our trip, and we recently found out my FIL and his gf are going to be in Orlando for a quick Disney/Universal trip, and they worked their plans around being in the MK that day to see DS get his first haircut.

I think we will be ok, even at DHS on Monday since our touring plan is going to be a little different with DS along. If we find we are not able to get much of anything done because of the crowds, we will just leave for our break right after lunch and spend longer at Epcot in the evening. I think the reason it changed was they maybe added evening EMH at DHS that night? Hopefully that doesn't lead to a super crowded morning.

Just wanted to share my minor freak-out for the day with some people who would understand where I'm coming from. Another big decision we were faced with today was that RCI actually called and said they had found a match for our request for 7 nights at a DVC resort! The resort was Old Key West, which has never been one I was very interested in trying. The match was for a 2 bedroom, which was soooooooooo tempting because we would be getting it for so cheap! However, I think we have up to 15 days before our reservation to cancel with Wyndham and we are down to 14, so it's too late to cancel anyway. If this had only come through a couple days sooner when we could have actually weighed the pros & cons and made a decision instead of one being made for us!! Maybe next year...and maybe a more desirable resort!

Anyway, gotta get back to picking up & cleaning this house. DS's first birthday party is tomorrow afternoon!! Hopefully in all the craziness of the next 2 weeks, I'll have time to post some pictures. :goodvibes We are going to have a TON of people here!!

:woohoo: 14 DAYS!! :woohoo:

Yeah... I hate those e-mails. I think I'm just going to ignore them from now on.

I went through the same thing yesterday. I was ranting and raving over on the DIS Dads Club about it. I posted a little bit more subdued rant in my PTR. :rolleyes1 Believe me, I feel your pain.:headache: It is so frustrating that you have to make reservations so far in advance and it completely kills your flexibility when park hours change or crowd calendars change. I think this just became another strike against Table Service meals and the regular dining plan in my book.

Anyway, 2 weeks to go! It'll be here soon!:woohoo: Too bad the OKW thing didn't come through sooner, but I guess it wasn't meant to be this time around.

O yes two weeks away!!!:cool1: i hope not to get anymore of those touring plans emails but it will still be a great trip for you guys! and so sad that you got the notice a few hours too late. I know i would like to try OKW one day. however Happy Birthday to your little man and if i do not get back here have a great trip! o and i really love the family pic at the zoo!!!

I know you leave in a couple of weeks but I just read your PTR and really enjoyed it. Your son is so adorable. My daughter just turned 3 months old and I can't wait to bring her to Disney World. I can't wait to read how your son did there. Looks like he will do fine and have a great time.

Catching up on your planning. I am SO jealous of that zoo, it really looks amazing! The whole weekend sounds so perfect, with the adult time in NOLA and the family time at the zoo.

That is so frustrating to have the park hours change at the last minute like that. Try not to stress about the best/worst park advice though; we ignore the recommendations quite often because we like evening EMH and haven't experienced any crowds that would change our minds on that count yet.

You are exactly right, having to plan everything SO far in advance makes it almost impossible to change things around when Disney changes their park hours. That's why I just can't get excited about all this Next Gen stuff they are talking about. Reserving FPs from home is a whole level of planning I can't get behind. I love planning my trips, but not down to the minute!

Thanks so much! Glad you found my PTR. :thumbsup2 I'm excited to see how he does in the parks. I found a lot of great information from other TRs I read of people taking their infants/toddlers, so hopefully someone can learn from my trip too! :goodvibes

It was a really great weekend! Even though we used to live there, DH and I never spend a lot of time downtown, so it was nice to do it from a "tourist" point-of-view. I'm hoping now that DS is old enough to sleep over at the grandparents house, we can have more little weekends like that in the future.

I let the park hours changing stress me out for about a day, and then I decided it wasn't worth getting upset over. If the park we choose that day is too crowded, that's what touring plans and park hoppers are for! The most important thing to me is his haircut...everything else can get cancelled if need be, and we can just go with the flow. I'm the kind of person that gets a little panicky and agitated when things don't go the way they are "supposed to," which is why I purposely didn't make plans that were too rigid. That way there is no "supposed to" and we can change it up on the spot if need be! But thanks for the reassurance, it is still much appreciated!!

I'm glad you are not re-arranging your plans. I think "best"/"worst" parks sometimes gets overhyped. If the crowd level is an 8 or higher, I might be concerned, but if you are going on a low-crowd day anyways, which park is "best" should hardly matter much. Certainly not enough to make changes.

Plus, I watch two web-sites for crowd calanders, Touring Plans and EasyWDW. They recommended parks never seem to match up...so how are they really determining these things anyways. :confused3 At this stage, just go and enjoy yourself!

Single digit dance for you soon!:thumbsup2 :cool1::banana::cheer2:
