13 Days of Disney – Shh-it’s a Surprise! - June 2016 PTR - Update 6/4

I need to go look at all the character location changes, I'm so behind! Not that we do as many as you guys but we do some, and I pride myself on knowing stuff like this :snooty: :D I think Woody and Jessie make more sense over by Splash/BTMRR than where Chip and Dale meet/met, even though it's still Frontierland. It's just more "western-y" over by the rides. But whatever :confused3
And yes Daisy is at TH - unless they change THAT before your trip lol!!

Don't bother looking now - they will all be different before your trip! I agree with you on the Woody & Jessie location - they fit well back by Splash and Big Thunder. The article referred to this as a "test", so we'll see what happens. They may be back in their usual spots before our trip even begins...or somewhere else completely new. I can't keep up anymore.

Got the email this morning that our first set of MagicBands have shipped! Woohoo! In other news, my toe surgery is finally upon me - scheduled for early Thursday morning. I am terrified, but have been assured by multiple doctors that, barring complications, I should be fully recovered in time for our trip. Any pixie dust/happy thoughts you want to send my way would be much appreciated!

Day 10: Tuesday, June 14 – Animal Kingdom

So I’ve pretty much already laid plans out for this day – see the original post for Day 5 for reference. This was going to be a MK day, but we swapped it out for 6/9 in order to catch Anna & Elsa in the MK w/FP+. A few changes from the first plan have resulted due to changes Disney has made in the month since my original post.

1. We have definitely decided to keep our 8:00am Tusker House reservation. I really want to try this meal, and am no longer worried about Rivers of Light!

2. With extended park hours until 11:00pm, we have decided to take a mid-day break and come back in the evening. I also moved two of our FP reservations to later times.

3. We will plan to see The Jungle Book show, probably with the rumored Flame Tree Dining package.

So now our day looks like this:

Tusker House breakfast
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Festival of the Lion King
Meet Baloo & Louie
Kali River Rapids FP+
Meet Pocahontas
Meet Russell & Dug (maybe)
Meet Tarzan (maybe)

BREAK

Back in the park by 5:00
Dinosaur FP+
Dinner – probably Flame Tree
See Finding Nemo show
Expedition Everest FP+
Jungle Book show
It’s Tough to be a Bug

Originally, I was planning on swapping out our Kali FP for the Jungle Book show and doing dinner at Yak & Yeti. I was going to join the Landry’s club and have an extra $25 to use because of June being my birthday month. However, now there is this rumor that there will be dining packages for the show. I would not do the Tusker House one, as I want to keep my 8:00am reservation and am not excited by the dinner menu there, but I thought we could potentially do the Flame Tree package, which would also allow us to keep our Kali FP. But I also don’t know if I care so much if we ride Kali or not and I was looking forward to the food at Y&Y. Of course, Y&Y will always be there in the future, and gives us something to look forward to trying next time if we don’t make it this time….and this is how things have been going around and around in my head.

Day 11: Wednesday, June 15 – Resort day #2!

After four consecutive park days, I’m sure we’ll need another break by this point. I am trying to decide if I want to do a late breakfast at Kona, or keep the morning completely open so there’s nowhere we have to be by any specific time. Right now the breakfast is scheduled for 10:45, so it probably wouldn’t feel very rushed for us. I have heard such wonderful things about the Tonga Toast that I am desperate to try it.

Whether we end up eating at Kona or not, one thing we will plan on doing this day is riding the Epcot monorail over there and back. We’ve never ridden the Epcot one before, as we’ve just figured it would be easier to drive rather than have to change trains, but I’m looking forward to trying this. It also gives us a chance to get a glimpse inside of a park during our non-park day.

After that we can do whatever we want for the afternoon/early evening. Likely activities include pool time, heading down to the Community Hall, and possibly checking out another resort. On our last trip, we drove over to Art of Animation for a bit to see it. This time I’m thinking we may take the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge. We will have to be back in time to shower and change for our evening activity which is…

This would also be a complete surprise for the kids. Disclaimer: I may end up cancelling. It looks like a lot of fun, but it’s also awfully expensive. If they end up releasing and we end up deciding to book either a Star Wars Dessert party or Club Villain, we would cancel this. But I also really want to do it. I’m such a sucker for these things! Also, I want it for the character meets for the kids. One last reason is for the convenience of doing it while we’re staying at BLT – so nice to not have to worry about transportation to or from since it sets sail from the Contemporary. We will likely not be at BLT on our next trip. So it’s booked and on the agenda for now, but we’ll see what ends up happening…

Sending pixie dust for a good surgery and a speedy recovery!

I totally feel your pain about AK, as you know. I hope we get it all settled soon. I've heard the dinner packages are off the Hub now...but who really knows what that means.

I so wanted to book the Pirates and Pals. But my parents nixed it. I could've done it with just AJ but I didn't really want us to have to split up. As a result, I booked Pirate's League for AJ.

Plans look great! Excited for your MBs!!!

Ok, I got super far behind, but I think I just about caught up on everything!!!

That’s right, we’re going back to DHS! Likely the main thought at this moment is “where is MK on this schedule???” I promise there is a method to my madness. We decided to visit parks based on location, since we’ll be at BCV for the first half of our trip and BLT for the last half. That means that we’re planning to hit Epcot, AK, and DHS only during the first week, and have heavily loaded MK into the back half. I honestly don’t know how I will cope with this. DH and the kids all say they would be fine with this set-up, and actually prefer it. I don’t know how I will stand being in WDW for a week and not even seeing MK in that time. Then after not seeing it for the entire first week, we will spend 4 out of 5 park days there during the second week. I’m not so much worried about burning out on MK, as we can always find things to do there, but it just feels a little weird.

We are doing this as well....trying to visit parks based on our location (doing split stay as well, CBR/POR/CR). Except we are doing MK for our first park day because we just have to! But then we won't be back to it for 6 days. I LOVE MK and that whole area as well, so it will be hard to be away from it for that long, but then we'll be right next door while we're at CR.

And of course as I kept reading, I saw you changed your plans and you will get to do MK earlier on after all!

1. Does 7:45 seem like a decent time to be at the bus stop if we’re wanting to get to the gate by 8:20 or so?

I would try for 7:30-7:45, so if you're out there waiting no later than 7:45 you should be ok.

RESORT BREAK! Not sure how much time to budget, as this will be the first time that we try a break using bus transportation back and forth, but I’m thinking we will probably head out by 12:30 or so and try to be back in the park by 5:30ish. Does that seem reasonable?

I think that's perfectly reasonable, it's just about the timeframe we use for our mid-day breaks.

We have never eaten here before, and I’m honestly not super excited to try it after reading reviews about it, but the kids are desperate to have a meal here. It’s hard to miss when you’re catching the monorail every day, so they definitely noticed it last time. I’m expecting it to be loud, messy, and chaotic, but knowing what we’re getting into I think we can have a great time.

It's our tradition to eat at Chef Mickey's on every trip, we really enjoy it. (See my avatar!) It is more about the characters than the food, but I think the food is just fine. It's a really fun atmosphere.

Hooray for fellow Gran Fiesta lovers! That ride gets no love around these parts.

We love Gran Fiesta as well and ride it on every trip at least once!!

Got the email this morning that our first set of MagicBands have shipped! Woohoo! In other news, my toe surgery is finally upon me - scheduled for early Thursday morning. I am terrified, but have been assured by multiple doctors that, barring complications, I should be fully recovered in time for our trip. Yay for MB's!!! We just got one set on Saturday and the other set on Monday (declined the 3rd set). Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure the surgery will go smoothly!

3. We will plan to see The Jungle Book show, probably with the rumored Flame Tree Dining package.

Us too....we already love Flame Tree and I had it in my plans for dinner on our AK evening, so it just makes sense. I hope it pans out!!

I have heard such wonderful things about the Tonga Toast that I am desperate to try it.

I hate to bring bad news, but apparently the Tonga Toast changed. I've read that they switched bread suppliers. They used to use sour dough bread and now they're using french bread I think. Though if you've never had it to begin with, you won't know what you're missing anyways.

We love to just ride the monorail, too! Sounds like a great plan!!!

Sounds like you've got a great split! I've never been to CBR, but have heard good things, and I LOVE POR. I don't blame you on the first day being MK! I was relieved when our plans changed, even though it will be a bit more hassle than it would have been the following week.

Good to hear - the more positive reviews, the better! I figure I'll go in with low expectations so I can potentially be pleasantly surprised.

The MB shipment makes things feel real for me. And thank you for the well wishes for tomorrow! I keep telling myself that by this time tomorrow I will be heavily medicated and comfortably resting. ;)[/QUOTE]

Ugh. Have folks been saying the change has negatively impacted it? I guess you're right, in that I won't know what I'm missing, but I'm sad to miss out on the legendary TT in its original form. Hopefully it will still be a bit of yummy deliciousness.

Found a thread about it:

I think maybe only the die-hards have/will notice the change. Seems like just the bread type couldn't alter it too much, right? :confused3

I've been MIA for awhile; life's been getting in the way. :sad2:

Since it's Thursday afternoon you should be recovering from your toe surgery. I hope everything went well.

I'm so excited that your first set of magic bands have shipped! Getting that package makes the trip seem so close! :yay:

Your plans for AK look great as do your plans for your rest day. I read somewhere recently (maybe here or Tikiman's site) that the Tonga Toast is different; I think the bread has changed. I just want to give her a heads-up. You can always get Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's if you decide to cancel Kona but still want some TT.

On a side note, we are thinking of visiting AoA one night. Do you think it's worth it?

Oh my goodness I forgot to wish you good luck on your surgery :(

So I hope it went well and you're resting well now! Please let us know how it went as soon as you can :)

On a side note, we are thinking of visiting AoA one night. Do you think it's worth it?

I definitely think it's worth it! My kids absolutely loved seeing it. The theming is amazing, and is complete over-the-top Disney (in a good way). I had, of course, seen pictures, but they couldn't do it justice. Plus, the kids really enjoyed playing on the Lion King playground.

Surgery and MagicBands

Thanks so much for all of the surgery well-wishes! My procedure went well on Thursday morning and, thankfully, they got the needle out. I was terrified they wouldn't be able to, as the doc said it may have been too embedded in the bone to get without having to mess with the bone, which they didn't want to do. Initially the anesthesiologist said he was going to put me completely under for the surgery, but I ended up not having to do that and got to remain semi-conscious. I was drifting in and out, but then I heard the words "it's out", which snapped me into reality. So happy and relieved to have it over with! The pain has been very manageable so far and I'm optimistic about being able to make a full recovery before our trip. It will be so nice to be able to walk around without a needle in my toe for the first time in months! Here are a couple of pics of my foot's current state - my doc has a bit of a sense of humor. ;)

Also, our first set of MagicBands arrived yesterday! I am getting so excited!!! I was having a hard time letting myself really feel excited before the surgery, but having that done and MagicBands in hand has made it start to feel real. We leave 3 weeks from tomorrow and I still have so much to do! I got an email this morning saying that our second set had shipped today, so we should have them early next week. Next on the agenda? Finding the perfect wrapping paper to put them in for the surprise. It has been so hard to stay quiet, but my year of silence is about to pay off. :)

Day 12: Thursday, June 16 – Magic Kingdom

This will be a day full of character meets! We will start out with a pre-park opening breakfast at Crystal Palace to get our Pooh character fix. This is another place we have never eaten, but DS has been begging to try it.
After Crystal Palace, we will head over to Fairytale Garden to meet Merida, followed by Alice and the Mad Hatter. I’m sure we’ll hop on the teacups after the Alice meet, then we’ll head over to my favorite character meet in all of WDW.

20150320_100307.jpg

Our first time meeting Gaston was almost a disaster. It had been raining that day and DD had dropped her homemade autograph book on the wet ground while waiting in line, which smudged the pages. She was almost in tears when it was our turn to meet him, but he was absolutely wonderful with her. I was amazed at his ability to cheer up a 5 year old while also remaining completely in character. He assured her that her book was fine, it just needed “a little bit of me!”, then he signed with a big flourish covering up the smudging. They proceeded to have a great interaction with him, and left citing Gaston as their favorite Disney villain. Our meeting with him on our trip last year had no such mishaps, but was a hoot. Looking forward to this interaction again!

After Gaston, we’ll meet the Tremaines. I am sad that Lady Tremaine is no longer in the park with the sisters. We met them all last year at 1900 Park Fare and very much enjoyed them. DS decided he would be ok with marrying Anastasia and Lady Tremaine terrified DD because she was dressed as Cinderella. I love her face in this picture.

After the Tremaines we will take a little break from characters (phew!) and hit some rides. We have FP+ booked at Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Big Thunder Mountain. Of course, we still try to stuff a few more characters in if we can – Fairy Godmother and Aladdin/Jasmine.

This was DS’s face the first time he saw Jasmine.

This is him in heaven.

47372190067.jpg

He told her “you’re my favorite” and got himself a kiss, which was his most prized souvenir of the entire trip, other than his signed Woody hat. Of course, he said the same thing to Cinderella later than night once he realized it could score him a kiss from a princess.

47372190160.jpg

This is him ready for his kiss. Something tells me he will be a handful when he is older… We’ve left this day pretty open as far as scheduling. We can make it as early or late of an evening as we end up wanting. We’ll probably end up doing some favorite anytime attractions like the Carousel of Progress and the Tiki Room and make it an early night since we will have been there since 8 and will have another early morning the following day. Up next – our final full park day!

Glad your surgery went well!

Crystal Palace was delicious. Your son is so adorable trying to get Cinderella to kiss him :D

I'm trying to plan a secret trip for me and my boyfriend and I'm terrible at it I think I've given him far too many hints already.

Happy it went well. Here's more well wishes to fast healing:goodvibes Your plans are looking good. Are you mentally preparing for the AK announcements on 5/20? I have to book FP+ at night on 5/21, so I have to get my game ready. I won't have much time to prepare. Hopefully, it will be good news for Jungle Book and the rest of AK.

I definitely think it's worth it! My kids absolutely loved seeing it. The theming is amazing, and is complete over-the-top Disney (in a good way). I had, of course, seen pictures, but they couldn't do it justice. Plus, the kids really enjoyed playing on the Lion King playground.
I need to fit this in somewhere because Will LOVES McQueen and Mater. Maybe on departure day. Or Disney Springs night (though that MK PM EMH so I may sneak over for some solo fun!).

Sounds like you're on the road to full recovery, glad surgery went well!

You are sooooo right, Gaston is THE BEST!!!! My family doesn't really meet characters, except at character meals, and we did meet Anna and Elsa last trip b/c that was so coveted at the time. We didn't wait in line to meet Gaston, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching other people meet him, he is so good and so hilarious!!!
