Just bought our airline tickets last night and now am thinking about rental cars. For our 10 day stay, is there any benefit to a one week rental and a separate four day rental versus a single 10 day rental?

I have a ressie for a different 8 day trip, and that extra day is costing a lot.

I was hoping maybe someone has some advice or personal experience they'd like to share with a longer rental period. Thanks in advance!

We are seeing the same thing on our long rental, (10 day). We are staying on-site and therefore can use the magical express. We have found it much cheaper this year to rent at either the Dolphin resort or the Customer Care Center, both of which can be reached by Disney Transportaion. We currently have two reservations until we decide which to keep. One reservation is for 7 days and the other is for the full trip, but both are from Disney property instead of the airport. I don't know if this option applies in your case but we usually use Alamo or National so this works out well and saves us some money also. Good luck... and keep checking sometimes the rental rates change drastically and very quickly.

Not one week and four days.

A rental car 'week' is five to seven consecutive 24 hour periods.

Weekly rates are generally much better than daily rates.

Two five-day 'week' rentals would probably be cheaper than one week-long and one four-day rental.

But - you need to price it out yourself.

Thank you so much for you suggestions! We're staying offsite for a few days then checking in at Pop for a week. I'll have to keep those options in mind when I really sit down and price things out.

I never thought of two five day rentals or to rent on Disney property. Really great ideas.

Thanks again!

Try Hotwire.

I am renting a car for 8 days and the cheapest I could find with tax was 260 with Thrifty.

I did Hotwire last night and 8 days with tax was 154 dollars and my rental company ended up being Hertz.

The ONLY car rental place that was reasonable for our 10 day rental was usave.com. I spent a week trying to find the best deal and no one could beat their prices.

but if you split it, you'll have to go back and return and check out again right?

You do have to return and go through the process again. We tried it both ways and there wasn't much difference in $, but it wasted a lot of time.

Based on my experience, I would get some codes from Mousesavers and then just run the different scenarios.

I have also found that it is less expensive to pick up the car at a WDW site (Dolphin) than the airport. What we did in March for our 8-day trip, is to use DME and then pick up the car the next day .... that way we only had a 7-day rental. We were also able to drop the car back at the airport.

We found that the National coupon could not be used at the airport but could at the Dolphin, so that saved us additional $$.

Agree, that you just have to run some numbers using various codes, etc. to find out what is best for you.

We love Priceline. I just booked yesterday for $13 per day, full size car. With Priceline it is by the day not by the week.

Rental company ended up being Hertz.
Here is the info:

Your Offer Price: $13.00 (per day)
Total Rental Days: 13 days(12 days and 6 hours)
Subtotal: $169.00
Taxes and Fees: $114.08
Total Charges: $283.08
Lowest Published Price: $473.78
Total Savings:* $190.70 (You saved 40%)

I found the best deal picking up at Disney CCC and dropping off at MCO using national code 5000304 (walmart) and their $35 coupon on the website. 7 days midsize for $165 with all fees. Maybe this could work in reverse for you -mco to CCC.

I Pricelined yesterday and my bid of $12/day for a full size was accepted.
It did take me 3 days of bidding before getting accepted - so hold tight and keep trying.

Just wanted to add: My total was $229.16 for an 11 day rental.

I have a 9 day reservation coming up 4/30 to 5/9 and got $207 directly from Thrifty with one of their Hot Deals.

This actually started at $283 about a month ago and 4 rebookings later, I landed on this price.

I don't use Priceline, since I don't want to pre-pay and be locked into something that I cannot change, should our travel plans change.

At the end of the day, you need to try a bunch of rental agencies with codes from mousesavers.com (and sometimes without any codes at all) until you get what you want. Even after you get what you want, keep checking back.

I think the 2 reservation thing ends up costing you valuable time away from fun, but if you can save a ton of money, go for it.

Good luck.
