1/2 day in LA with family

We are wanting to go see some sites in LA for just a half day. Any suggestions? Don't want to spend a lot and we will be driving our car. We were thinking the Hollywood sign, and the Chinese theatre and Hollywood & vine. But really we are clueless. Any suggestions would be great!! Family ranges from grandma down to a 6 year old. And every age in between. Thanks!!

If you look up the Hollywood & Highland shopping center (on Hollywood Blvd. at Highland), you'll see that you can park your car there (any store or guest services will validate for you). There is a Hollywood sign viewing area/photo op on an upper level, the Dolby Theater (where the Oscars take place) is in the center, the Walk of Fame is right out front, the Chinese Theater is next door, Disney's El Capitan is across the street. There are lots of restaurants for a lunch break. Hollywood and Vine is about a mile or so east. There isn't really much to see there, especially for a 6 year old. But the 6 yo may really enjoy ice cream at the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain next to the El Capitan. There is a small store that sells Disney things there, too.
