I haven't been to WDW since 2013, but it seems like the rules for free dining have changed a bit! You MUST stay 5 nights? You MUST pay for park-hoppers? And only staying in the deluxe gets you the regular dining plan, not quick service? Wow. Is it really worth it?

Go in December!! We went December 4-12, 2013 and it was a great trip! The weather was wonderful - it didn't rain at all. The kids used the pools, but it wasn't oppressively hot or humid. The Christmas decorations are just lovely and the Christmas-y atmosphere makes for a very special time.

We just returned and I agree with OP. We missed out on a FP because SM was broken. We got stuck on Buzz Lightyear. Jungle Cruise broke down. We wasted a lot of time and got very frustrated.
