I'm in the beginning phase of my research for Disney World...I'm planning to get sometime in 2013 and will have a zillions questions I'm sure but the first one is... What's the advantage of the dining plan? Are ADR's different from the dining plan?

Could someone explain to me why you would purchase a dining plan? I'm in the beginning stages of my research and I'm just curious why you would purchase a dining plan vs just purchasing your meals independently? I hope that makes sense. Thanks!
