Have you ever left a child at home as punishment?

To those who have actually had some constructive comments, I thank you. To the rest of you: This will be my last post on Disboards, unless the moderators don't honor my request to cancel my membership & I'm forced to post a string of profanity to get this deleted. For you to flame me...

Post pics of your bag you carry into park

Here's what I plan to take. It's a Camelback Blowfish. I have had this for years for cycling, and it finally dawned on me to use it as a small backpack for outings when I saw my SIL using a backpack about the same size. I "test drove" it last summer at Six Flags without the bladder (put...

do you put your 2.5 year old in high chairs at restaurants?

My 2 1/4 yr old hasn't been in a high chair at a restaurant since about 18 months. At home she only uses the high chair as a tall chair (not buckled in, & she gets in & out by herself) when we have guests & otherwise don't have enough chairs. At nicer restaurants she uses a booster, but most...

    Seminars or Conventions at/near WDW?

I would love, love, love a solo trip to WDW, but the only way that can happen is if I get a business trip there. Is there a site that lists what seminars or conventions at/near WDW? (I am an engineering manager, so it would need to be somewhat relevant.)

    Too much celebration?

We were in a similar situation for dd's 5th b-day. Even though it was noted on the ressie, no fuss was made unless she was wearing her b-day button, which we only let her wear on her actual birthday.

Aerobed for Kids? Anyone have it?

Another alternative is the Thermarest camping pads and sleeping bags. We easily fit two sets into a duffel bag, and my kids (ages 2 & 6) love "camping" in the hotel room (or guest room at their cousins').

    Saving money while eating healthy?

I'm not sure if you live near a Whole Foods, but contrary to what many think, it is not always more expensive. I can get organic refried beans for the same price as conventional at other stores. Same thing with yogurt. Their store brand (365 deg) has great prices. Even their conventional...

    Where to go to learn?

Check with your local rec center, community college, camera store, or photography club. I just took a class for $50 through our rec center in conjunction with a local photography club. It was an 8-week course, 2 hours once a week plus 2 Saturday morning field trips. In the first class, they...

    Monterey

Fish Hopper has an awesome view but can be hit or miss on quality. Better chowder either at the market by Breakwater or Vivolo's Chowder House on Lighthouse. If you scuba dive, the diving is great (although cold) if you can happen upon good visibility.

    the 6YO doesn't wanna walk

No one is going to look at you funny for letting your 6 yr old ride in a stroller at Disney, except maybe a few that don't have kids. Our dd5 had not used a stroller at all in over a year, but would not have lasted long at WDW in September without one. The heat just wears them out if they are...

    Hook's Pointe ??

Hook's Point was excellent, but definitely not "moderate" in price. We had "dinner for 2" included in our package, and still spent $98 on 4 drinks, one kid's meal, a kid's drink in a souvenir cup, two kid's desserts (ice cream), tax, and tip. But the Citrus Grilled Shrimp (or something like...

A twist on the dining thread - bad food?

I was overall very disappointed in most of the food at DL. However, some deserve particular attention: --the fish & chips at Ariel's Grotto was the worst--mushy and not even recognizeable as fish --crabcakes at Rainforest Cafe were fishy tasting (I know I shouldn't expect good food there...

    Rush hour traffic?

DH reminded me that years ago when we drove down to San Diego, it took us as long to get from SF Bay area to Santa Clarita as it did to get from Santa Clarita to San Diego staying on 5 the whole way, but on the way back, we went a different way (maybe 405?), which was alot faster. (I also...

    Rush hour traffic?

Arriving late isn't really an option for us, really. My kids aren't good car-sleepers and would be cranky, cranky, cranky! We'd really like to check in before dinner time.

    Rush hour traffic?

We're headed down one Wednesday from the SF Bay area (so we are used to traffic), and I was wondering what the "normal" traffic hotspots are and what time the evening rush "hour" is? TIA!

    Flip Video camera

I have one and it is absolutely perfect for me. It will be more than adequate for YouTube. I bought it because it was small enough to carry in my purse and actually have it available when I wanted to use it, unlike my big ol' video camera that I've filmed maybe an hour's worth in 5 years...

    Earthquake today....is everyone alright?

I had to ask "was that an earthquake?" DD5 asked why daddy was shaking the house. It was her first earthquake. DH & I both experienced Loma Prieta in '89, so this was nothing in comparison. Plus, we're about 30 miles away in Livermore. My sister lives in Santa Clara, much closer to the...

    Fireworks view from hotel?

Yes, I would rather be there in person, but we can't enjoy it if the kids are screaming because the fireworks are too loud.
