Update on Mosquito Prevention at Walt Disney World Resort
08/26/2016
The Four Keys basics for Safety remind us: I take action to always put safety first.
In an abundance of caution, at Walt Disney World Resort we are taking additional measures and preventative efforts throughout our property, including providing complimentary insect repellent for Guests and Cast Members. Florida Gov. Rick Scott has asked businesses throughout the state of Florida to join the efforts to prevent the spread of the Zika virus. One of the ways to prevent the spread of the virus is to encourage the use of insect repellent.
We also want to make sure you are aware of the best practices to help prevent mosquito population growth in your work area and at home, and to prevent mosquito bites. We continue to work in coordination with public health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health to determine best practices for prevention.
There are multiple locations across property with complimentary insect repellent for Cast Members and Guests. In the coming weeks you'll see signage throughout property with the following information:
- Walt Disney World Resort has an extensive mosquito prevention and monitoring program.
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the best way to prevent any disease spread by mosquitoes is to avoid being bitten.
- The CDC encourages the use of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellents and protective clothing.
- Complimentary insect repellent is available for Cast Members and Guests at locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
For the latest information, check the CDC website: www.cdc.gov.
CMs have confirmed repellent will be available in the MK City Hall Lobby. Guest Relations areas in the other parks will also have additional CMs to assist with the repellent disbursing.does anyone know exactly where these locations are?
We were in Tahiti last spring, they have a ton of the same kind of aedes skeeters, we were told that the picaridin was the best for avoiding the aedes. Different than say India, where the other types were more effectively banished by deet.
From Consumer Reports regarding Zika. If you use Deet be very careful in amount you use. It can be toxic, family friend died of Deet poisoning via bug spray.
is there a "season" for them like there is in the north? We get them for about a month and then they die and gone for the rest of the year

Wow, so sorry, earlier I read only the big print, that is awful! Very scary!
And it ties to the situation now. They were so worried about getting bit by mosquitos and contracting something (Caribbean trip) they reapplied the deet spray over and over all day. Your body absorbs and their system kept absorbing the deet.
My fear is all those worried about zika spraying over and over.
I live in NW Florida. we have them year round. worse after lots of rain of courseis there a "season" for them like there is in the north? We get them for about a month and then they die and gone for the rest of the year
Off has a Lemon Eucalyptus one too. I won't use Deet on my 3 little ones, it is such a strong chemical for their little bodies!Yup, picaridin is supposedly the best. We have moved to the Repel Lemon Eucalyptus for less chemicals and yet still works well.
