Post a Picture of Your Camping Setup at Other Campgrounds!!

Now that is a good looking site. Green grass, shade, concrete pad...

We are camping at the Thomson Causeway, near Thomson, Illinois.
The campground looks great. I'm thinking about another trip up to Galena. We stayed last fall at the only cg in Galena. It was Labor Day weekend. The campground was tight for my 30 ft 5er. Pretty sure the new one won't fit, especially on a holiday weekend. I saw a place on the river in Dubuque, but was hoping to find something closer to Galena.

You will NOT, NOT like the campground right next to the Casino in Dubuque. Although it is along the Mississippi, the campground attracts less than desirable neighbors. Spaces are VERY tight. I know our fiver (42) would not fit. It seems that some people live there most of the summer. If you have not been to The Thomson Cause in Thomson, Il, it is only about 45 minutes south of Galena. Reservations only. Many, many miles of flat bike trails. If you do not have bikes with you, there is a terrific bike rental place, and recumbent bikes/trikes rent for only 35.00 per day. I think I remember noting you are from the St Louis area. We love shopping and having dinner in Galena, as it is only about 45 minutes from our farm. Good luck, and thank you. We did have a first for us, a nasty storm was coming through, and we were asked to go to the Shelter houses. I think by the time we got in our truck and arrived, the worst had blown over.

Thanks.

We are from STL. I remembered you were from WI and it threw me off when you said you lived 45 minutes from Galena. I forgot we drove into WI when we were up last fall.

And I was referring to Riverview Park for camping. http://www.cityofdubuque.org/1133/Miller-Riverview-Park-Campground. I think it is owned by the City of Dubuque. I will certainly checkout Thomson though.

Teamubr, this is the campground I was referring in my comments. Very close sites, a little bit of an encampment of locals. We will never go back. Although it looks beautiful from the bridge connecting Iowa and Wisconsin, right along Mississippi, our personal feelings are that it is less than desirable. Dubuque does have the fun river walk, and a couple local breweries, which are not far from this campground if you decide to go. Also, Galena is perhaps a 25 minute car ride. I see they now take reservations. Another option closer to Galena is Mississippi Palisades State Park, in Savanna, IL. They also take reservations. Good luck and have a great time. The "weather gods" in the Midwest have given us some hot and steamy weather, hot hot, torrential rains, then hot. It makes things grow. I would suspect you are much worse than us. Have a great summer. Barb

Thanks Barb. That's too bad about the CG in Dubuque. It looks nice on the web site. We may try Mississippi Palisades. And you are correct about the weather. 90s, heat and humidity, for the last 10 days. Most days in the 95-99 range. Not as much rain as you have been getting up north. The corn looks great right now. We'll see in a month.

I just wanted to let you know that we are camping locally this week, and the"group of Sista women are up from Illinois on their yearly UTV, Ranger, Quad riding. I asked them about Palisades, and they told me nice, nothing to do, and the roads are tight. We have not been there, so I cannot verify, but wanted to share. Sorry I do not have more info, but you will figure it out. We dodged the storms yesterday, and, our corn also looks nice. Now, to do something about that milk price! Happy camping.

It looks nice on the web site.
We have been too many places that didn't meet up with the Hype. Sadly, the websites or even fliers will only show the "Good Side" (not that I blame them though).

That's why it's always good if you can get Independent review/information before you go. :)

Happy Fourth of July weekend, everybody. Wish we were at the Fort, but this weekend keeps us in the back 40 down where the river flows! We are at our "farm's campground- Wisconsin style" -- something we created/uncovered after chopping haying all day, and fixing the fence in the heifer pasture! You never really realize what is right under your toes! Cows are locked out, and family members are all down in campers/tents for a fun weekend.

We made it to Branson last night. Had the pleasure of making the last 100 miles in severe thunderstorms, 60 mph wind and flash flood warnings. It stopped raining about 5 miles from the cg, but started as I was backing in. The poor guy from the office holding a flashlight got soaked.

Today is a much nicer day.

Looks beautiful, what CG is That? We always wanted to go to Branson but never made it. Frank wants to fish Table Rock Lake.

It's Ozark Country Campground. It's about 2.5 miles from the strip and the lake. The campground is nice. The immediate neighborhood is a little junky, but you can't see any of it from the CG.

There are quite a few campgrounds in the area. Some state parks and COE places on Tablerock Lake and a number of private places. Many close to the strip and a bunch away from things.

I didn't decide to come down until a week ago and took what I could get. The KOA by the strip was $70 a night. This place has a 40% Good SAMs discount and was around 35. I couldn't find anywhere else that I would fit, so here I am.

Great looking site, Jeff! Lucked out with weather the past week on the Cape! Hated to come home, but off to Lone Oak campground in East Canaan, CT for "Chiristmas in July" this weekend...

Yeah. The weather out there was great! I am not to excited about leaving tomorrow but there is work to be done. A few of my friends camp over at Lone Oak and love it. Hope you and your family have a great weekend.

The squirrels at this campground in cape cod are quite territorial. They are red heads and battling for claim over campsites. This one was looking for some matches to light a fire in celebration of his victory.
