Am I the only one bummed by the new transportation set up at Disney Springs

First trip to the new Disney Springs last week. No drop off at Marketplace !! We were frankly not really interested in the new stores that we had to walk past to get to the Marketplace and we were not happy to have to walk all the way back to the bus area from the far end of the Marketplace at the end of a long tiring day. I definitely don't think my older mother or my young grandchildren can handle this new set up. Why only one bus stop? I also understand that the boat from OKW only goes to the west side now. Another issue of a long walk to the Marketplace and back. Is this like a contractual thing, like all the new stores have stipulated that shopping traffic must go past them?
Whatever, I will be making fewer trips to Disney Springs until the transportation options get
friendlier.

We weren't really happy with the new set up either. If you want to visit the Marketplace area it is a long walk there and back. Plus we like to stay at SSR and in the past it was always an easy walk to the bus stop at DS to get to other resorts.

We were there last week & it did seem like a bit of a walk, a lot of it past what looked like the type of overpriced, trendy shops that we'd never bother going into. Bummer.

We didn't like it either. They drop you off in the heart of all the new high end shops for a reason. You have to walk by all the stores and they want you in them spending money. Prices are outrageous in many of the new stores. To me the new Disney Springs is nothing more than a mall for the rich. It's not for me.

I'm not happy about the decrease in bus stops too. And hiking it in the blistering August heat? :crazy2: I think I'll be thinking twice before a trip there.
Is there boat service at least from West Side to Marketplace?

noooooo!! I hate this news. But I'm glad you posted it, thanks. It may make me think twice. This may also decrease the business to all the Marketplace shops, like World of Disney. People will not want to walk all that way after a full day in the parks. This may be a good choice for Uber, not Disney buses.

  1. Before, when the buses stopped at MP & PI, every one complained that it took too long to get in and out of DS because there were too many stops.
  2. The MP bus loop was a major source of delays; it just didn't have the capacity to handle the volume, and there was nowhere to expand it.
  3. The new depot is centrally located. When buses stopped only at the MP, people complained that it was too far from Cirque and HOB.
  4. Unless it's changed in the past few weeks, boats to OKW & SSR stop at the Landing, not West Side -- again, the most centrally located dock.
  5. If you're at the back area of the MP, use the new Causeway to cut down on walking distance to the Landing and Town Center. Or take the water taxi to the Landing to break up the walk.
  6. For Guests who have trouble walking, the new wheelchair rental location is very close to the bus depot.
  7. Apparently, you just can't please every one.

The Uber drop-off & pickup is at the far end of the West Side, behind HoB -- much farther from the MP than the new bus depot.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. Thought maybe I was just getting really lazy. But yeah, the new stop location makes me less liable to go to Disney Springs.

The truth is I am only going if I am staying at a resort I can "boat" or "walk" from. It's a mall. We have those where I live, I don't need to make a special trip LOL!

No joke!

But unfortunately my daughter has in inexplicable thing for Earl of Sandwich. We may or may not be deciding on DLR over WDW this year because EOS is so much easier to get to there. ;)

If you measure carefully you will find that the walk to World of Disney is not very much more with the new bus stop, although the farthest point of the bus loops makes it a little harder. The walk way goes right straight between the two locations. The new bus stop is a major improvement for all the West Side venues. Don't be fooled into going to the boat stop at the Landing - that adds considerable walking and a lot of time and is really now only good for going between West Side and Marketplace or if you arrived there by boat in the first place.

I think the biggest loss is a quick bus trip for Earl of Sandwich... will think twice about that now.

We stayed at SSR last week and loved the new Disney Springs! Lots of new restaurants and bars, the shopping is far more interesting than it was before, I can pickup foundation (or anything else I forget makeup wise) at Sephora and I thought the prices there were in line with our Sephora locally. My daughter shopped at MAC (which we don't have anywhere near us) and was thrilled. We love the changes!

I am really looking forward to seeing the new DS. All of the changes seem great. A lot of stores that you can look through and find things that aren't readily available around here. Plus a lot of great eating and drinking. I am really looking forward to it. On park days I easily walk 20-30k steps so I am not the least bit worried about a slightly longer walk in DS.

I just started researching this and hoped I had it wrong! I only am interested in Town Centre and Marketplace and want to take uber there. Anybody have experience with drop of at one of the parking garages? Lime garage is central...

That's precisely the reason I want to minimize any steps I need to take outside the parks.

There is no Disney-sanctioned drop-off there, so it's up to the driver. Some will drop off at one of the garages on request, others will not. You can take the free water taxi shuttle from the West Side to Mktpl or the Landing, which is adjacent to Town Center.

Pick-ups are only at the Strawberry lot at the far end of the West Side.

This is just all way more trouble than I would ever want to go to for shopping.

What were they thinking?

I just told my daughter that if we opt for WDW over DLR this fall, Disney Springs is out.

We actually thought the new depot was centrally located and not that far from anything. We went several times for lunch at EOS and WPE and did not find the walk long at all, even in the middle of the day heat. It is also quite close to the movie theatre where we frequently go in the summer afternoons. With the marketplace drop off we were frequently drenched by the time we walked to the theatre in the summer.

We haven't been to Disney Springs but were planning to go this trip (skipped it the last 2 trips). We shop for a few souvenirs in the parks but def don't want to waste time we could be spending at the parks or pool in a mall. Should we continue to skip DS? Other than food and shops are we missing anything there?
