APRIL 2016 Rental Car Discount ~ Promo Code ~ Rate Watch

So my dollar rate (April 30th to May 8th) is not down. However I dropped a day and searched from April 30th to May 7th and it dropped waaaayyyyy down. I am hoping I just have to wait another day or so to see the drop for my dates. I will go through the RBC site, pay upfront and be done with it. :)

Just a heads up....that low Dollar rate that I grabbed through RBC is no longer showing for new reservations. I just ran my dates through the RBC travel site, and the same reservation that I got in the $190-ish range is now $320. Hopefully your dates will have that temporary drop like ours did, though...you never know when to expect it!

Not sure if this helps anyone, but I was able to get a car through Costco (Orbitz had the same rates) for April 14 pick up at Orlando airport and drop off at Austin, Texas on Sunday April 24 for $130. So we'll fly in then drive back, but with gas so low that should be a significant savings.

I've never seen such a cheap one way rental. Austin airport must really be hurting for cars.

Thanks for the heads up. If I see the RBC rates drop I will book right away. :)

Was able to save a few more dollars over the Dollar city special rate using my AAA discount code. April 23 - May 3 minivan for $300.20. Most likely need to show your AAA card when picking up the car though. Google Dollar AAA code for your local AAA discount code.

Yikes. The SUV rate I got this morning has more than doubled. Must have been a system glitch, but bank error in my favor. Thanks for posting it earlier, sometimes you have to be Johnny-on-the-spot to get these mistake rates.

That is pretty common for a one way rental out of FL. Last year we had a rental booked from Orlando to Boston for a week and I think it was $80 or something crazy like that. We ended up cancelling because we changed plans, but it was a nutty price!

You're welcome :goodvibes ... so glad to hear you were able to snag a good rate as well! I happen to agree.....timing is everything!! ::yes::

This is why I always check my rentals every day & multiple times a day at that. Pricing changes in an instant based on supply & demand etc. It drives DH nuts that I do it, but he never complains when it is time to pick up the car and pay!

We will be in Orlando March 29-April 5th and I am having a hard time with mini van rates. We currently have a reservation with alamo for $430 (I can't remember which code we used). I've tried all different discounts and places for rental. I just did a search on orbitz and I'm getting fox for $360. Any feedback on them vs alamo? I have four kids so have to have at least a mini van. Thanks!

Also, we have only rented from Budget in the past from MCO.

With Alamo, you pick up your vehicle right in the garage at the terminal. With Fox, you will be taking a shuttle to their lot and picking up your vehicle from an offsite location. With four kiddos in tow, that might be a bit of a pain.

I started reading reviews and that seems to be a big complaint (the shuttle and the area the rental is located). So for us probably not worth it to save a few bucks:/

Any one have any experience using a debit card at Alamo? Last time we rented there was a lot of chatter about what the actual policy was at budget and it ended up not being an issue at all. Like they didn't charge us a deposit as was mentioned. They simply swiped our card and we were only charged for the actual rental when we returned it. (pretty sure it was budget.... I'm getting old and forgetting everything).

I wouldn't fret too much over the cost now. Between now and a week before your trip, I am willing to bet you will get your van at half that Alamo price at Alamo. Just check everyday a few times a day. In October I went from a $700 SUV to a $320 SUV for 12 days. I canceled and rebooked at least 6 times.
I am doing the same thing for my 2 weeks in April. I already save $100 and I am just getting started.
BTW, I booked through Alamo in October. The hardest part is the 200 yd walk from baggage claim to the Alamo garage.

We've always had a one way rental before and after our cruise. Usually mco to the port and vice versa. We've always gotten a mini van , the most expensive rental so far was for our vacation last week. It was $113.00 All the previous years have been under $100. I'll just keep checking daily:( hopefully they go down

crystaldawn, we used a debit card last October with Alamo and had no problems at all. I do no think they put a hold on our card for the 20% over the cost of the rental which the website says is possible. Nor did they ask for our "proof" of roundtrip travel (though we did have our plane tickets available).I am using Alamo again in April, same debit card.

These threads are always so helpful. Thanks to all who post their deals here!

I just rebooked my original reservation since our travel dates changed slightly. I had originally booked using the Vegas Brazil code which did not include the CDW and had no additional driver. As mentioned upthread they are now included. Not too keen on the CDW part since that may void my car insurance for this rental. I was able to use the $25 off code mentioned. My total for a 9 day minivan rental is now $269! The next best price is $430 so I may take my chances with the VB code with the included CDW.

Anyone here know exactly what the AD3868JST coupon is from. I want to make sure I am OK using it for my trip. I tries googling it and saw only references to it, not where it is from.

I checked our rates (again) today and got a much better rate for our dates booking through travelocity! So $430 down to $260 for a mini van 3/28-4/5

Just checked again and it's down to $240:)

Just booked a full size from 4/23-4/29 thru dollar(city special). Picking up at the Wyndham by Disney Springs. $48.00 base rate...$71.34 total Can't imagine I will beat this rate. I'm done shopping.

We are staying at SSR and taking MME to the resort but we want a car for the week. Think you could get a minivan for under $200 total if you wanted.
