Boma for dinner??

We are staying at akv and can't fit Boma breakfast in our plans!!! So I am considering replacing jiko with Boma. Is Boma good for dinner?? We already have Sanaa booked as its our fave restaurant!!!

Is Boma's Good....Heck to the Yea!!!! Book it now...LoL heh ehhe.. I'd say that Sanaa & Boma's are 2 totally different, but equally awesome dining experiences...I've yet to try Jiko, but have not heard anything, but praise for this place....

Going to Boma for the first time in June. Very much looking forward to it. After reading the menus online, not worried, about food choices for DS4 at all. Some typical kids meal choices on the line for him just in case. The rest looks great for DW and me, adventurous eaters ready to try new things. Considering the 4pm tour of the facility, but thinking it might be too much for DS to get through nicely. Planning to look for animals afterward, hit the fire pit and marshmallow roast/story time, enjoy AKL a bit before heading back to AoA. Our first time at AKL ever, actually. Hoping to convince DW it mite be worth the extra to stay there next time! (Insert devious laugh here)

Boma and Jiko both have great food, but the Jiko atmosphere is more suitable for adults-only groups. Boma is a great choice for all ages.

Boma is close to the top for my favorite restaurants for dinner. Jiko was AMAZING when we went, but could potentially be not so great for kids.

Boma is a great experience. Go at 4:30 and drummers will get the excitement going. We had three very picky adults in our group and all 5 of us loved many of the offerings. There are some kids choices too, and the mini desserts including Zebra Domes are very delicious and allow you the ability to try several because they are tiny.

Boma for dinner is very kid friendly. The thing I have liked about Boma most is the service has been amazing. Every time we have gone the servers have been great with interacting with our little one and making sure we had everything we needed. My wife and father swear by the food. I like it, though it's not my favorite (like it is for them). There is plenty of things if your kids don't like quite as exotic things (there is a little section with chicken nuggets and mac and cheese). As far as comparing to Jiko, I have never been, though I have heard it is one of the top restaurants on property. Honestly you probably can't go wrong at either, just depends if you want to go a little fancier (Jiko) or go for the more laid back buffet style.

It is the only buffet we will go to. In Disney or anywhere else. Love it. And they offer some reasonably priced African wine by the glass

Yep Let me 2nd this....The ZEBRA DOMES ))) RULE ((( lol.....Along w/ all the many other desserts...The soups, the carvings, the list goes on & on...

Boma has great food and is very family friendly. Jiko - it's menu is not that extensive if you have picky eaters - and its "signature" dining - meaning there's an expectation your kids will be reasonably well-behaved through a longer meal. I LOVE both of them - but at this point in time - I wouldn't take my 6 year old niece to Jiko. She is pretty well behaved restaurants as they do go out at home - but at Disney - given her predicted tired level by dinner, the length of the meal, the more formal setting, and the fact she is just going to eat off a kids menu - it would just be alot to ask of her. I'm hoping at 16 she wants to try the place, though! Sanaa - which the OP mentioned her family likes - definitely doesn't feel as formal as Jiko - and for me - is a quicker meal. I suppose the length of the meal at either place can vary alot depending on if you order alcohol, appetizers, dessert, etc..... I have taken my niece to Sanaa and Boma!

Obviously, many people like Boma, but we are on the other side of the Opinion Fence.

NOTE1: Boma is outstanding for breakfast. For dinner it's below average and worth
passing by. I've worked in Africa, and the menu items are highly Americanized, which
distorts the flavor - it is neither African no American and comes off as a mish-mosh.
African and Mid-Eastern are spiced with cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, cardamom, which
can make food appear sweet. IF DOING DINNER, DO THE SOUPS. There are 15-different
soups offered at five per night. Leave the meats, salads, the desserts, except for the
Zebra Domes. FYI: bring the ear plugs, as it does get REALLY noisy; we thought AKL was
a good location - but it sounds like a herd of elephants coming through.
.
NOTE2: We always ask the waiter what he recommends. Much to our surprise was his comment
of, "taste all of our soups, as they are terrific, and leave the rest of the buffet to the tourists."
This was a birthday dinner, so the statement really stood out, and it was true.

I would never give up Jiko for Boma. They are both totally different experiences and while I think Boma is the best buffet on Disney property, it is extremely loud and crazy. Jiko is great - great food, typically great service, elegant without being stuffy. The only time I would suggest Boma over Jiko is if you have young kids who might not like a quiet, paced dinner.

As someone who HAS eaten at Sanaa, Boma, AND Jiko, let me be the first to say that they are ALL spectacular, but totally DIFFERENT dining experiences. While most guests who tend to be on the 'picky' side when it comes to their epicurean palate, the best choice is probably Boma, mainly because it has such an extensive, ever-changing menu, for even the most finicky of eaters. As for Jiko, while I have seen families with smaller children dining here, it definitely is more of a 'five-star' <<adult>> atmosphere, with an ever-expanding assortment of South African wines. Sanaa is an interesting eatery also - if you don't mind the four-legged creatures watching while you dine! :rotfl:

....wow - if anything, that should have gotten an A!

I agree. Mish mosh is a good way to describe it. The flavors are very muted and blanded down for the tourist trade. I didn't find Boma better than any of the other buffets and worse than several. I liked Sanaa, but Boma is a take it or leave it experience.

My whole family, including my six-year-old, love Boma for dinner. I always book it for our dinner after a day at AK.

I would agree with this review. We just aren't big fans- and we are foodies!! It was REALLY noisy, the atmosphere wasn't what I would expect. It's like a cafeteria with nicer chairs. We didn't try soups. Lol guess we should've! We had a hard time finding to much of anything to fill us (and we filled our plates to try a little of everythung). My kids barely ate. Glad we were on the DDP, bc I would not pay that much money out of pocket for it. I was really looking forward to trying it out, but I doubt we'll be back for a long time. Even the zebra domes I don't think lived up to the hype. They were good, but nothing I'd salivate over thinking about now!

I'll add here my one critical tip for first-timers at Boma - when you go to the buffet, you do NOT have to start at the beginning of the often-long line, unless you're going to the carving station. Boma has a series of pods, and you can just go straight to the one you're interested in - breads, then salads, then soups, then entrees, then desserts, etc. It will save you a lot of time. And if the line at the carving station is long, there's a good chance it will shorten within five or six minutes.

My other important tip - start with *small* servings, because you're going to want to try lots of different things from the buffet. No need getting filled up on the first two things you try.

(Is it obvious that I've been there a few times?)
