What park would you do?

Hi everyone! We're looking at doing a Japan trip in 2017. Since I'm a crazy planner I'm looking into pinning everything down now. We would only have a week in Japan, which would leave only 1 day for Disney. Which park would you do?? Any tips? I was thinking we'd stay at one of the themed character rooms, but since it's only one day we'll probably end up pocketing a lot of that cash and just saying in one of the cheaper good neighbor hotels.

DisneySea. Its theme is unique among the Disney parks, whereas Disneyland is very similar to all the other "Magic Kingdom" parks.
That's what I'm leaning towards as well. I'm just worried there isn't enough "disney" in Disney Sea. My daughters will be 11 and 8 when we go so I'm just not sure if Disney Sea will be too grown up for my youngest?

I also had wanted to try to eat at The Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall but looks like I'd have to get a ticket for both Disney Sea and one for Tokyo Disneyland in order to go.

I think it's plenty kid-friendly at those ages. But, you know your kids best, so my suggestion would be to look at maps and YouTube videos to get an idea of what attractions are offered and decide if you think your kids would enjoy it.

If you only have one day and you're going to spend it at DisneySea, I wouldn't buy double the tickets just for Queen of Hearts. I think that would be too wasteful in both money and time. Best to just stay in one park and accomplish as much as you can. I would stick to Quick Service and snack carts in DisneySea to leave most of my time available for rides.

Yeah I think we're just going to have to skip queen of hearts this time. That's ok it'll leave something for us to do the next time :P

We only did Tokyo Disneyland on our first trip when we could only go for one day. It was more familiar to us and we liked seeing the differences. That being said, Disney Sea is obviously incredible.

I would not worry about staying anywhere special. Our first trip, we stayed at the hotel in Ueno that we were at for touring all of Tokyo. Our last trip, we stayed at a hotel 2 train stops away from Disney. It was super cheap and very easy to get to Disney (APA Hotel Tokyo Shiomi Ekimae.) We knew that with limited time, we would not be spending any time at the hotel - not worth paying any more.

On our latest trip to Japan we had one day at the Resort and chose Disney Sea as well. The park is so unique compared to all other Disney Parks. Not all rides might Disney branded, but there's still Disney characters and Disney parades.

Yes I think my husband and I decided we'd rather save that $ than have a fancy room, even though their character rooms are SO cool!

My husband was in Japan for work and had one free day. He chose to go to disney sea since the other seemed alot like dl and mk. Despite it being rainy he said it was very busy. He still had a great time. Everyone that knows us is shocked when he went to disney without me. Everyone thought I was the disney fanatic. ..guess I brought him over to our side!

We'll be visiting DisneySea in 49 days :o we also only have one day for Disney, and we chose DisneySea instead of TDL. We'll be doing other stuff in Tokyo and will also be in Kyoto for the rest of our two week trip.

We were at DisneySea on a rainy day and it was EMPTY. We walked on to everything several times. It was awesome. :)

Someone told me to pray for rain, and I SO am!!! The entire week we'll be in Tokyo, the crowd levels are through the roof :guilty: I picked the best day possible, but still praying for a rain miracle. Lol

We've gotten SO lucky on both our trips to Tokyo Disney. We somehow managed to pick what must have been the quietest days of the year! Add in rain and the park was all ours!

Phew, I hope we are as lucky! But somehow I doubt it, lol. We're going March 29th and that entire week is red, for some reason :scared: oh well. We will make the best of it!!!

That's the week before the Japanese schools are back in session. It's also the very height of cherry blossom season so people are traveling more. We always go right after the schools start again and right before Golden Week. (mid-April). You can still have an amazing time - just make sure you have a good plan!

The crowds can be insane. On our first two trips, the parks were a complete delight. But, we first visited during the GFC and our second visit was shortly after the earthquake and tsunami. On our third and most recent visit, the parks were crazily busy. I think in part it was due to our first day coinciding with the commencement of the "Halloween" events, but also simply because the parks are typically busy. It was also raining, which probably deterred some visitors but which also meant that a lot of rides were closed and a lot of entertainment (e.g. parades and fireworks) were cancelled. That meant there was more demand for the rides which were open.

It's important to prioritise the rides, parades or experiences which you really want to do. And even though it is crowded, the cast members and visitors are all so polite and considerate that it's still a joy to experience just wandering around the parks and taking in all of the scenery, especially at DisneySea. We also found that taking a break from the crowds for more relaxed meals helped.

We arrive into Japan on March 29. I planned our entire itinerary around Disneyland and Universal for lower crowds! School starts back April 4. We'll be at Universal April 5 and the Disney parks April 6/7/8. Hopefully they won't be TOO bad.

Was this the second week of September (and first week of Halloween)? That was when I'm planning to go eeeek.
