I thought I'd put this up to try and help anyone else who finds themselves in the same boat (or plane as the case may be). As many of you long time transportation board posters know, my family tends to have a rather colorful travel history. Much of that stems from the fact that for years, we've had to fly during President's week, which is one of the busiest travel times in the northeast.

Well, now DS is in college, and we are not tied to the school calendar. Of course, he's a bit put out we're going without him, but that's another story.

We fly out tomorrow at 8:45am from Boston to Tampa on JetBlue. Now, yesterday, the flight we're booked on was cancelled. Not surprising as we got about 10" of snow throughout the day yesterday.

However....today, that flight was also cancelled. However, the flight before it (6:00am) did go. Hmmmmm. I've already checked us in for our flight tomorrow, and I did call JetBlue customer service to see if anything was up, but was told everything should be on schedule tomorrow. So now, I'll start keeping an eye on things, and if they start cancelling more, will call again, and see if there's anything to be done.

I think the thing that will work in our favor is that we're not flying during vacation week. However, with flights flying virtually full, all the time, space to get rebooked is always at a premium.

Stay tuned, fellow DISers.

My advice to the rest of you? Do NOT travel for a bit. We need to make sure debsters travel luck has changed!!!
Hope all goes well!!!

After a storm, it takes a couple days to get the planes back into position for where they need to go. This mornings plane may have been scheduled to arrive last night but didn't make it so this mornings flight was cancelled. The earlier flight's plane may have made it or they decided to move plane assignments around.

Ordinarily DebbieB would be right. She's even technically right in this case. But the debster family is notorious for having flight plans go awry. Notorious. It's as if the airlines... no, air traffic control... no, the FAA and the NTSB get a special alert when this family gets ready to fly and conspire to make their trek (for it is a trek, and not simply a trip) as difficult and inconvenient as possible. Woe be unto anyone, any innocent, who happens to be on the same flight!

Kaytieelder is 100% correct. So far so good for us today. Took 15 minutes to get to the airport from the shuttle. Bag drop went quickly, security was OK. We are in the air now (love free wifi on JetBlue). Maybe the weakest link all these years has been our son, who is not with us this trip.

Glad to hear things are working out. This morning I heard on the news that a Jet Blue flight out of Logan had to go back to the airport due to a bird strike. I immediately wondered if it was debster's flight but then heard it was a flight to Virginia. I'm happy for debster but feel awful for that poor bird, and for the passengers who were on their way to Virginia and then had to turn back.

Well, you all knew it was too smooth on the outbound flight. Here's an update on our return. We left Fort Myers today, in 72 degree and sunny weather, heading to 11 degree Massachusetts weather. ICK. I checked us in for our flight last night at the 24 hour mark. Checked on the flight, to find out we were delayed nearly 2 hours. That would have put us landing at Logan well after 1am. I noticed that Jetblue was allowing changes for tomorrow (2/15/16) due the inclement weather. I checked other JetBlue flights, and saw that there were a couple of earlier flights, that still had availability. I called JetBlue, and asked if they could change our flight without a change fee, since the delay was going to put us into the 15th. They were able to do so, and DH and I got the last 2 seats on an earlier flight. That flight was also delayed but the times were much more manageable.

On this particular route the planes generally go back and forth between Boston and Ft Myers. Due to the extreme cold in Boston, there were delays all day departing Ft Myers. Our new flight started off with a 2 hour or so delay, that grew to 2 hours, 45 minutes. But, once our plane got in the air out of Boston, I knew we would be in business. We ultimately ended up landing about a half hour before our original flight was scheduled to land.

It pays to keep checking those flights folks, so you can be pro-active and work with the airlines when irregular ops happen. I am the poster child for this at this point.

I've been wondering how you were doing!!! Glad JB worked it out for you. I watched the news yesterday....they were reporting that many flights just couldn't get out of Logan due to the subzero temps...everything was freezing!!! Glad you're home..bundle up, at least until tomorrow!!!

FINAL UPDATE--Both DH and I received emails today from JetBlue. Included in those emails were a $50 credit for each of us. I can only guess it's because of the delay we experienced on our flight home. Our flight was delayed over 2 hours. So in addition to JetBlue allowing us to change our flight at no charge due to the extensive delays. They also gave us each credit for the 'inconvenience' which in the name of full disclosure, I knew about before I changed my flight, and I figured that the 'no fee' change was my credit. Win Win for us.
