Things no longer seen on DCL

I miss the dueling pianos. It was so much fun.

I also miss the pub master and the old Diversions. I hate the pub style tables that are in the bars now, mainly because I'm short and getting up on those chairs is a PITA.

I also miss having a pub master in Diversions with the port vs. starboard trivia competitions and "Ring the Bull".

I don't think he was an official "pub master', but on the Wonder Hawaii cruise this September there were several trivia competitions of all sorts in the pub. The turnout was crazy good. They were a lot of fun.

SnowWhite2, at least on the Wonder there are some really comfy armchairs in intimate little sets of 4 against the big portholes in the pub. Very comfy with great views. DD and I would always try to get to Diversions a little early just to snag a couple of these for the trivia contests. And then there are the big booths forward as well for those that don't care for the hightop tables.

One of the main reasons is price point. Several years ago Disney as a whole looked at ways to cut costs. One of the ways they did this was to make as much as they can similar. I'll use french fries as an example. With probably close to 100 if not more restaurants between the ships and the Florida parks, that use fries, and most using different types or brands it would cost on average say 10 dollars a box. By making do there are say 10 different types Disney purchasing can get a bulk deal and pay say 7 dollars a box. They save thousands if not more per.year just on the fries. Same thing with the mugs. There would be say for arguments sake there are 8 for the cruise line, 4 for the parks and 20 for the resorts in Florida. It may cost say 10 per mug. By making them all the same, just generic DCL or parks and the price comes back down to 6 dollars. It all about the money.

They have removed the option to sell that superior product but replace it with something no doubt at a similar price to the original with a price reduction in manufacturing and stocking cost.

One has to wonder how the WD company survived in years gone by, when they produced specific products related to that operation, yet still made huge profits, enough to be able to finance 2 ships to set up a cruise line, and yet still in these days they still manage to charge massive increases in fares, whilst others are cutting costs and they are now following suit.

If you were on the 9/17 Hawaii cruise from HNL to YVR, I won a number of those trivias. ;)

If so, they were hosted by the Club Host (on that cruise, Anthony). There was a time in which Club Host was in charge of adult events in Rockin' Bar D while Pub Master was in charge of adult events in Diversions and had shifts as a social host in there.

One of my favorites things as well. Wish they would bring it back with all four ships on it!!

MJ

I'm for it!

Given truck1's post above about profit per item, I think it would be very unlikely for them to procure $8 towels as gifts, when they can get them for $5 for example.
Sadly, it shows the level of care provided when deciding on CC member gifts these days.
Save 3 bucks per cabin per CC member and it all adds up when you calculate the bottom line profit per pax!

Well it was basically a character breakfast. But, instead of the characters coming around to the tables individually, they did a show. They would invite people up to go under the limbo stick, and parade around the dining room. Sort of like Pirate night, but in tropical dress. I can only recall having it on one cruise - our Panama Canal cruise. Maybe something they only bring out for special cruises?

Look closely at the columns, the shutters are down and the Parrots are out - they never lower them any more on the Wonder and did not the last couple years on the Magic. :(
