We'’re out of it! … A summer 14 “MAGICal” Med adventure Day 14/Aug 05 updated 05/05

I had to think of you and your comments about the lack of quiet sitting spaces on the Magic during our Norway cruise. We encountered the same problem, especially since it often was too cold outside to hang out there. But it seems that you were able to make lemonade out of lemons, that martini from the Cove Cafe looks delicious!!

So sorry the lack of quiet space was a problem for you too.
It was just so different from the cruises on the bigger ships, where we always had somewhere to go and sit for a while, while there was constantly something going on ..... loud. Reminded me of being with my students. :rotfl2:
But we made the best of it and I hope you did so too! ;)

I'm trying to figure out why I didn't comment on the amazing ruins... Thank you so much for all those gorgeous pictures, wow!!!! Even more special being an unexpected fantastic day. Other than the horrible stateroom host. Fun that you went back out after cleaning up. I would not have been pleased those kids were in the Cove Café.

It was a beautiful day and it turned out to be even better than we expected. :thumbsup2
Well, the problems with our stateroom and host were a bit on the annoying side. But at least now we are able to laugh it off.
The kids at the Cove Cafe really got to me. It was just another straw, but I was really put off by the CMs who said nothing about them being there.

Oh, Karin....please do email...hope it is the same email address ...the chrissy7273... Praying everyone is okay. :grouphug:

I sent you an email, Christine. Hope you got it. :goodvibes

So they though you requested your room not to be service. LOL. Well that explains it...but wonder who requested it. :crazy2:

That stateroom host was really cheeky about it, especially since he had seen us leave and then never went to clean our room. You know, I can live with it when we are at a DVC resort. I can pick up a broom and sweep, but I do not see the reason to tip someone for NOT doing what they are supposed to do. ;)

Hi Karin, I hope you and Tom are alright.

Thanks for asking, Tammie. Yes, we are fine, it's just a bit busier than I would like at the moment.

Popping in and happy to see an update with some awesome pics! I saw your post to Christine, Karin so here's a big old  just because :)

Thanks for the hug, Jeanette. It came at the right time. We are okay, but it is so busy and I needed a bit of an "up".
I am glad you enjoyed the photos - more to come tomorrow! :goodvibes

I'm still here! Sorry missed this last update.

IMG_3594_zpsdntyq9zl.jpg

This looks yummy!

When we got back to the room it was still not made up but instead we had a notice being pushed under the door that we had opted not to have our room serviced. Hm, must have been another me who did this and since our stateroom host was again nowhere to be seen we just ran with it, but definitely not the service you would expect from the top notch Disney brand.

I didn't know you even had the option of opting out of having your room cleaned up??

Ugh, could totally use one of these right now..

I'm still here! Sorry missed this last update.

No problem. I guess you have other things to think about right now. ;)

This looks yummy!

It is something that is so common around here, crepe filled with ice-cream and doused in chocolate sauce. Best dessert in the summer. :thumbsup2

I didn't know you even had the option of opting out of having your room cleaned up??

Neither did I. :rotfl2:Not to get ahead of myself, but this is the first DCL CM that we did not double the tip.

Day 11, August 2

Kusadasi, Ephesus and more“ - Part 9

Free or not, they were both really good and we sat and enjoyed the early evening, talking about how much we had enjoyed our visit to Kusadasi and the excursion.
Once we had finished the drinks, we headed to the front of the ship to see the sun go down.

IMG_3614_zpskndta4zs.jpg

There were not many people out there, as first dining seating was going on and the show was on as well. Once the sun was no longer visible we walked back towards the middle elevators to see that the Beatles band was playing in the pool area.

IMG_3623_zpsvyc9kx7d.jpg

We stayed for the rest of their performance as we had enjoyed them so much the day before. They again ended with having everyone sing “Let it be” and it was awesome having so many people sing a non Disney song. We continued on with our walk,

IMG_3626_zpsohevvqki.jpg

walking past the elevators and to the very back of the ship to watch the wake for a while,

IMG_3627_zpsbws5q3h3.jpg

then went through Cabanas

and back to our stateroom. You would not believe it, but by now we actually had a cleaned room and turned down bed.
Yippie!
We had only a little time until we had to go to the dining room for dinner, so we just freshened up and then went down to the dining room. Todays menu was Mediterranean and it looked pretty good.
Jay had brought our drinks and the bread basket which was

IMG_3640_zps8eqcxhai.jpg

Foccacia bread and dinner rolls and a deep dish with some

IMG_3639_zpsqkwvbkec.jpg

“Herbs de Province” virgin olive oil and freshly ground pepper. We were hungry, so we dug in and enjoyed the fresh bread and oil. Tom had ordered the

IMG_3646_zpsdkhbsnve.jpg

Lemon Herb Shrimp, on a bed of Artichokes, Baby Carrots, Fava Beans and Lemon Dressing while I had the

IMG_3642_zpsz1wtdwff.jpg

Tapas, Taste of the Mediterranean, Prosciutto, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Marinated Olives and Parmesan Cheese with a Grissini Stick. We shared both and they were very tasty.
And we both were now looking forward to some soup. Mine was the

IMG_3647_zpsaiyxk8zd.jpg

Spicy Andalusian Tomato Soup, with Country Style Crusted Bread and Tom got the

IMG_3651_zpsbwtbaqqa.jpg

Egyptian Green Soup, Spinach Soup with Garlic and Coriander. Both nice and creamy and hot, just what we had been looking for.
I had had a hard time finding a main course so I went with the

IMG_3652_zpslpoeqoyc.jpg

St. Sebastian Pan Seared Chicken Breast topped with sliced Tomatoes and Emmentaler Cheese Gratinee on creamy Orecchiette Pasta. Tom had his heart set on the

IMG_3656_zpszxfcdcuj.jpg

Braised Centre Cut Osso Bucco Milanese, slowly braised Veal Shank, Gremolata, Safran Risotto and Bone Marrow Reduction. His portion was huge but very juicy and tasty. My chicken was a bit on the dry side, but the pasta was pretty good and if you dipped the chicken into the sauce it got a lot better. And while we were still enjoying our dinner we saw Jay going around entertaining guests with his magic tricks again, which left Jason to do all the work. He looked pretty stressed when he came to take our plates away and hand us the dessert menu.

IMG_3657_zpsphgr3rcp.jpg

Tom ordered the

IMG_3663_zpspbq5pn4d.jpg

Black Current Napoleon, Puff Pastry layered with Black Current Cream. I had ordered the

IMG_3661_zpscw0ocfcs.jpg

Flourless Chocolate Cake with Cointreau and Orange Compote, which turned out to be two segments of tinned tangerine. The cake was dense and very sweet and I did not finish it. Jay waved at us and let us know that he would be with us in a minute to show us his daily magic trick and after we had seen it we said our goodbyes and headed back to our stateroom. Like most evenings we sat out on the veranda with a drink and watched the waves and discussed what to do the next day.
Finally a port day with nothing planned.
What would we do?

To be continued ..........

Of course I am hungry when I read your post! LOL. Dinner looked tasty. Too bad your chicken was dry.

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
And yay for a clean room!! :)

Food was really nice and we were very surprised to see our room all clean again. :rotfl2:

Jen! You should know that there is always some food porn in my TRs!!!! :rotfl:
Thankfully there was the sauce to dip the chicken in. It really helped to make it more tasty. :thumbsup2

Sitting out on the veranda after a long day is one of our favourite things to do. It is so peaceful to watch the waves.
And the clean room was an added bonus that day. :rotfl2:

Day 12, August 3

Picture Perfect Greek Island - Part 1

When we woke up we were already docked in Mykonos. We wandered out onto the veranda and were in awe. What a beautiful, picture perfect little Greek island. So after taking showers and dressing lightly we decided to skip breakfast on board and just head into Mykonos for breakfast and a day of fun. There were quite a few tours heading to deck one and we joined the queue to be signed off the ship. There was a shuttle running between the ship and the village and we looked around as to where it was supposed to leave from, found it quickly and got on board.
It was pretty full already, so the wait is short and within a few minutes we were on our way into Mykonos. The bus let us get off on the outskirts and we walked along the pier,

enjoying the wonderful white buildings with blue trimmings. We stopped at one or two souvenir shops and had a look before we came to the main area. There were several small outside restaurants that offered breakfast and we then decided on stopping by a larger restaurant that had quite a few breakfast guests already.
We were led to a table towards the back of the outside area and we sat down and only then did we realize that Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line was sitting two tables away from us. Again.
The service stuff of the Alegro was super friendly and handed us a menu right away, telling us that she would be back in a minute or two to take our order. In the meantime we were able to make our mind up about breakfast.

Tom wanted to try the

BLT, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato on toasted White Toast with Mayonnaise, served with freshly cut Fries and he wanted to try the

Greek Coffee and a

IMG_3672_zps7fedp2ue.jpg

Diet Coke. Having missed a good breakfast for quite some time I went with the Continental Breakfast they offered, which was choice of coffee, so I asked if I could have some tea instead and they were very happy to substitute the coffee for a

IMG_3669_zpsajmbxmle.jpg

pot of tea. Breakfast included

IMG_3674_zpseuryepa2.jpg

Bread, Butter, Jam, Cake, Honey and Orange Juice. Doesn’t sound very adventurous, but I was just longing for a real nice down to earth breakfast that was served to us. Our server left us and within just a few minutes she returned with our drinks and soon after our breakfast, which was just so good. We sat there, enjoyed the view and our breakfast and were two very happy bunnies. We sat there for quite a while to enjoy the setting before paying the bill and starting to really explore the island.
There was one thing I really wanted to get to and that were the windmills. You can see them from the main street along the waterfront, so how hard can it be to get to them. We knew the direction and off we went,

but what we did not realize was that the streets were going up and down and they were so narrow and we quickly lost our sense of direction and after about 20 minutes of just “walking around” we found ourselves back at the waterfront again.

Beautiful, and very cool that the president of DCL was at the same restaurant (that's how you know that you've made a good choice :) ) Sorry you both got confused and ended up at square one, but the scenery is amazing throughout the walk I bet. The windmill in the first picture caught my eye immediately, I hope you made it to see it up close Karin.

Great updates! I love seeing the ship mostly empty. The sunset pictures were lovely :)

Dinner looked quite yummy, too bad Jay left Jason to do all the work. I like the magic tricks but during dessert when everybody is winding down.

Yay for a clean room!

Mykonos is so pretty! Mom and her DBF did a long vacation in Greece a few years ago and they absolutely loved it there.

Tom's french fries are making my mouth water!

Sounds like an interesting morning. I wish Fran's mobility issues didn't get in the way of our adventures. I know it frustrates her as well. Your breakfast choices looked very nice. I would love some hot and crispy french fries right now!

All caught up here and only a few updates behind.

A lovely dinner and evening, sunsets are just so pretty. Dinner looks good too.

So far your exploration of Greece look fun, even though you went in a circle to start. :rolleyes1

YAY for both! Cheers to the food one and I loved seeing stitch on the hat calendar. And perfect to start of Star Wars themed :)

We bumped into him and his wife quite often. It was funny that wherever we went, we saw him too. :rotfl2:

Sorry you both got confused and ended up at square one, but the scenery is amazing throughout the walk I bet.

The roads on the island were going in all directions and while I am quite good at directions, this got even me confused. And not to give anything away, but it was not the only time we got lost. :rotfl:

The windmill in the first picture caught my eye immediately, I hope you made it to see it up close Karin.

Mykonos is famous for the windmills and there is a whole row of windmills that we wanted to go to.We could see them from afar, but not all roads led to them.

Great updates! I love seeing the ship mostly empty. The sunset pictures were lovely :)

We really enjoy times when the ship is so "quiet". Best time ever! And sunsets at sea are the best in my mind. So beautiful and peaceful. :goodvibes

Dinner looked quite yummy, too bad Jay left Jason to do all the work. I like the magic tricks but during dessert when everybody is winding down.

We really felt for Jason. He was always super busy and always smiled and was so cheerful and then there was Jay ......... He was sweet too, but it was a bit annoying to sit and wait for dessert, while he was busy showing Magic tricks and Jason did all the work.

Yay for a clean room!

:thumbsup2

Mykonos is so pretty! Mom and her DBF did a long vacation in Greece a few years ago and they absolutely loved it there.

I have to admit, this was our first time ever that we went to Greece and we were in awe with all the history in Greece and the beauty of Mykonos. So far we do not have plans to go back, but it is definitely on our "to do" list. It is super beautiful and people are so friendly and helpful.

Sounds like an interesting morning. I wish Fran's mobility issues didn't get in the way of our adventures. I know it frustrates her as well. Your breakfast choices looked very nice. I would love some hot and crispy french fries right now!

It was fun to explore.
Breakfast was awesome! And we both loved having something else than cruise food. It was wonderful.

It definitely is. We really loved it there.
In the end we laughed about walking in circles - it happened more than once. :rotfl2: But it was worth it in the end.

All caught up here and only a few updates behind.

Yeah for being caught up. I really know how hard it is to stay on top of things with everyday life. I would love to get more posted, but time is so limited lately - like the day doesn't have 24 hours any more.

A lovely dinner and evening, sunsets are just so pretty. Dinner looks good too.

We just love sunsets at sea - the skies are so beautiful and it feels so peaceful.
Don't get me started about cruise food - yum yum yum. ;)

So far your exploration of Greece look fun, even though you went in a circle to start. :rolleyes1

In the end we laughed about getting lost. The streets were winding in all directions and it was hard to get where you wanted to go, but everywhere was so beautiful that we did not mind.

YAY for both! Cheers to the food one and I loved seeing stitch on the hat calendar. And perfect to start of Star Wars themed :)

I am glad you enjoy the calendars. Tom takes so much pride in making them and I nearly forgot to post the link - and please check out the other days as well (and try to cheat - at least for once. ;))
