Marathon Weekend 2016

No Turkey Trots here but just wanted to wish all the fellow runners a Happy Thanksgiving!

Likewise! Happy Thanksgiving from snowy, well-named Iceland. No running or walking going on here, though. Just watching wave after wave of snow coming in off the water while doing strengthening/stretching in the hotel room.

Thanks! Same to you.

Snow ... that's rough. Isn't Iceland not supposed to be icy? I thought Greenland was icy and Iceland was green...

Anyway...
Checking in after my 5 mile Turkey Trot this AM. Finished with a chip time of 55:50, for an average pace of 11:10 and a PR! My goal was under an hour (and not last), so I'm definitely happy ... even though it was a struggle.
As soon as her pumpkin pie is finished, my sister and I will be watching a movie (The Muppets, which I just got on DVD), and then we've got dinner with my grandfather this afternoon.

I hope everyone has some fun Thanksgiving (or Thursday) plans!

That is awesome! I'm glad you decided to do it and great time!!

I've been eating and shopping online. Not quite as impressive. But I'm running tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and for those who ran, great job.

I had 10 miles planned this morning. You know when you have those runs where everything goes well. You feel great. You get your check on your time and you are running way faster than it feels you are running because it just feels so easy. Well, I had the exact opposite of that today. I couldn't loosen up (despite warming up before I went outside). Everything hurt. I was running way slower than usual and it was a struggle to even go that fast. It was awful. By mile 2 I just wanted to quit. I was doing my typical 5 mile loop. When I got to the point to turn back up my road at mile 4.5 I just kept going. I didn't make it to 10 miles, I only got to 8.2. But, considering I wanted to quit at mile 2 I am glad I pushed through and did an extra 10K on top of it.

All I could think about the whole run was how screwed I am. I am 45 days from running the marathon and every mile just feels like a struggle right now. I see most of you doing 16+ mile runs and I am struggling to do 1/2 of that right now. That time off from the injury really hurt me.

At this point I am just going to keep plugging away and do as much as I can. Eventually things will click and I'll get a few good runs in a row that make me feel like I have a chance.

Doing the Space Coast full in 2 days and I'm a little worried as I did not get enough long runs in.Too many things against me from Wine and Dine being cut from 13 to 7 miles to running my first half not feeling fully healthy in late October with a mildly tight hamstring along with a new pair of Hoka Conquests that was causing my ankle to swell on longer runs. After that half I realized the way my ankle was hitting the top of the thin uncushioned Hoka was the culprit so I went back to my old worn but reliable pair of Hoka Stinsons with much more cushioning in that ankle area. The hamstring also got better and I ran a pretty good W&D 7 miler in my old Hokas, since then I've run a couple of runs of 6-10 miles to just test that all my running parts are good and ready to go and I've been testing whether I should do this Space Coast full with a 4:1 Galloway run walk to stay fresher as I will be doing a couple of days at Disney afterwards. For my Disney fulls I always run the first 14 miles straight with the exception of water stops, and then randomly run walk the final 12 miles.I just hope this full doesn't feel like it will take me forever as it won't be like my Disney fulls where I separate the race into segments going from park to park with always something to look forward to,for this race I'm hoping they have plenty to entertain you throughout but I know mile 2 will probably look a lot like mile 22.One thing I don't get is why the full marathoners start at 6:30 while those running the half start at 6am,I just keep thinking about how if I was only doing the half I would be done by 8:30 and since I'm doing the full it will be at least close to 11:30 or later.I think I should chill out and stop worrying about things like that,my plan is to run the race strong and feeling good, finish if possible in under 5 hours,go get some lunch, head back to the hotel for a shower and nap and go to Gaylord Palms for their Ice exhibit,I plan to get a bunch of runs in their snow tubes.I'm trying to decide what shoe I should buy for all the races I have next year starting with the Disney full cause the Stinsons aren't going to make it to the Run Disney Star Wars Darkside challenge in April.I tried a pair of Brooks Glycerin 13s someone recommended and good lord those are the comfiest shoes I've ever worn, they don't have the cushioning I've gotten used to with the Hokas but everything else is like a nice soft cloud around your feet,I think I'm buying them when I come back from this trip, any other shoe suggestions.

I don't have any recommendations on purchases but am in a similar position - have the Seattle full on Sunday and don't feel quite ready yet. I'm also tempted to just switch to the half but I'll feel lazy for doing it. My advice - take some deep breaths, try and get a short run in today or tomorrow prior to your full and just enjoy it. It doesn't matter what time you finish at, just do your best and when you're done it'll feel awesome!!! (and a little sore after of course). Good luck, maybe we can both share how we did after our races? :) We can do it!

Thank you,I'm kinda glad Space Coast doesn't allow you to switch races as I really just want to do a full outside of Disney, the option isn't even there to switch so I will be running 26.2 Sunday morning. For whatever reason my attitude changed overnight from a little concerned to really excited to run this race.Just hoping I'm not too sore as I'm at Disney until Tuesday, doing Sea World tomorrow,Disney Monday and Tuesday and only doing Ice at Gaylord Palms after the race on Sunday.Usually after my Disney fulls I only do a very light park day or maybe a visit to Theme Park connection and then drive home.

I am interested in hearing about the Space Coast run. It will be one of the future Florida half or full runs I do after the January February and April Disney runs are completed.

I keep thinking that Thanksgiving was Christmas and I just started getting really excited for marathon weekend! Maybe because I got discount sneakers today so I'll be up to two good pairs for Dopey. I can't wait!!!

Was anyone at Philadelphia last weekend? There were a bunch of people in the blue corral that I met who are running Disney in January and it was such a nice group of runners.

So what you're saying is that you got a Christmas present for Thanksgiving ... awesome!

Only 40 days to go to Marathon Weekend! (I checked the extended forecast on accuweather this AM and it wasn't pretty ... but it's accuweather and very far away, so I'm hoping that it's very wrong)

Wasn't pretty as in warm or crazy cold? I will take the warm any day.

Temperature was okay - mid-70's during the day, which should make for decent morning running. But thunderstorms I think every day. After what happened with Wine & Dine ... I think thunderstorms freak me out the most because they could result in safety issues that could lead rD to modify the event.

I was looking to see if you can get a discount on park tickets if you participate in a Disney marathon?

GetTravel has discounted park tickets you can order.

We were going to use them but then they decided to throw in something that we're not going to end up using. So we decided to get tickets through Disney.

Have fun with the run. You will be fine. Finishing in any time is an accomplishment so don't worry about the time at this point. Just do your best and it will all work out. As for shoe suggestions, Asics Nimbus 17's a more comfy than the Brooks you mentioned, in my opinion. They are much softer. The Brooks are too thin for my foot, which is the reason I didn't get them, but the Nimbus are like walking on clouds.
Maybe not as much as the Hoka's but still very soft.

accuweather

Accuweather, now that's an oxymoron if I have ever heard one. Unless it is just up here in New England but they can't get the weather right the next day up here, never mind 40 days away.

That's part of why I'm not putting too much stock in what they say ... but my usual weather source (weather.com, which is slightly more accurate) doesn't do 45 days in advance. Although even accuweather is right once in a while ... probably by accident.
My favorite is that my phone's default weather app uses accuweather and sometimes I can hear it raining outside, and then I look at the phone and not only does it not say its raining ... it says that it's not supposed to rain at all. I mean, really? It's actively raining and you don't think I should expect any rain at all today?
