Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

Joining this thread. We'll be staying four nights at AKL in a standard room for the first time from 1/14 to 1/18. This is a resort newbie question - when you do online check-in, can you request a certain room or section? I know that it's limited by our room type.
See my post 2106 just above yours - those were the online check in choices last week for my DVC Jambo Savanna view - I suspect they are this year's generic Jambo choices. If I had a regular standard view room I might choose Kudu trail as all of those rooms have at least a limited savanna view (v. parking lot or the book able pool view) although some Kudu rooms would be a long hike from the lobby/bus stops/pool/Mara.
If you call to add requests consider Zebra trail Uzima view as then you might get one of the people pen view rooms which were reclassified from savanna view to standard and are closer to the pool/Mara and generally have decent animal viewing if you don't mind seeing the people pens too.

We are thinking about a quick two night stay at AKL early next June. There would be 6 of us (4 adults and 2 children) and we were looking into a 1-bedroom Villa with a Savannah View.

We are trying to decide if we should rent points (which I know doesn't give much flexibility if there are any changes/cancellation) or book direct with Disney. Are there any historical discounts that I could hope for at that time to bring the direct cost down closer to renting points?

Isn't that over the limit for capacity in a one bedroom? Two in the bed. Two in the sleeper sofa. One in the sleep chair assuming the room has one. Sorry I can't check for you but look into it before you make a decision.

We just switched from BC to AKL thanks to the recent discounts which saved us a lot. We are so excited as this will be our first time staying at AKL and we have always wanted to stay here. We will be there March 12-19.

We will also be celebrating my moms 60th birthday so I need to do something special for her. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for the information. The children will be 6 and 2, so we meet the occupancy!

I am thinking that my best bet would be to just rent through a DVC member!

One of Curiouser&curiouser's children is age 2, so she's ok for max occupancy. Great minds must think alike as I asked a couple of pages ago too :)

Just got back a few weeks ago from our first stay at AKL. Loved it! We ate at Boma for breakfast and dinner, Sanaa, and used the Mara for most of our quick-service meals. Can't recommend these restaurants enough. I wanted to pass along some room info for those of you looking for room requests for "standard view". We were asked if we would mind being all the way at the end of the hall (about a 3-5 minute walk from the lobby). I said that would be fine because I figured we would have a good chance of having a partial savanna view. Our rooms were at the very end of the hallway, on the third floor (which is the same floor as the lobby, so no elevators needed), and we were right at the edge of the savanna. Gorgeous! We had giraffes outside our rooms every morning, zebras, and all kinds of other animals. I was thrilled that even with a standard view, we got to see animals every day. Our room numbers were 3392 and 3391 and were a Kudu Trail View. If you don't mind a walk to the lobby, I would totally recommend these rooms. It was also very quiet since we were at the end of the hallway. This resort is my new favorite! My kids (ages 4 and 1) were absolutely in love!
....GOOD for you! Sounds like you had a wonderful time.....I'm an AKL 'life-er' myself.

I thought I had posted already but we got back from our AKL stay 10/4. It was amazing. We booked a standard room, upper floor, Kudu Trail. We were surprised to get bunk beds which worked out great for the girls! Our room was on the 4th floor facing the animal care center. So we woke up every morning to animals outside. There was one day we spent the whole time at the resort. Younger dd did the animal enrichment activity and got her first memory bead (green giraffe).
We are already planning our next stay, hopefully June 2017!

....looks like we've got another convert....;)

Just booked a few nights in December at the AKL. Standard view was what I could afford this time, but I plan on walking around the entire resort and taking it all in. I tried to book the night safari, but it was all booked up. Doing the Keys to the Kingdom and Wild Africa Trek while I'm there, so I think those will keep me busy. Can't wait to experience this place.

How related are the families? We were just in a 1 bedroom SV, I would say that the pack n play would only fit in the master bedroom. The couch and chair are very close together when pulled out, the chair is movable. You might consider 2 studios instead.

It is us and then my parents, so pretty close. I will definitely check out the 2 Studios as well though! Thanks!

The pull out couch is much less comfortable than the bed, so maybe give your parents the bedroom and then move the chair in there and use the chair space for the pack n play by the pull out couch?

I have read that the chair is too heavy to move into the other room. Not speaking from personal experience.

I just booked a value studio for one night to see if I can convince my DH into a longer stay. Where are the rooms located? Is there any chance of a savanna view? Any requests when doing online check in to hopefully get a nice view? TIA!!!

We're staying in a Value studio for 9 nights starting next week! :) The Value rooms are located in Jambo House right near the entrance where the lobby is. If you look at a map, they are the two short wings on either side of the lobby. Of course, not all of those rooms are Value rooms. There are a very limited number of Value rooms and because they are priced so low, they do not accept requests for the Value rooms. If you select something during online checkin, they won't even look at it. Most of the rooms will face either the savanna or the pool -- however, a few of them do have a parking lot view...it's luck of the draw. I've heard that the parking lot views are mostly just trees, though so not a terrible view. :)

We did the WAT last year, and absolutely loved It!
