Fantasy January 23, 2016- STAR WARS

So we're in the billing cycle where final payment is due - I gave our TA the go ahead to make final payment. HOLY COW. Woohoo!
Made my final payment! Wahoo! Now for dining and shore excursion decisions!

Hey, all! Since this is my first time cruising with DCL, I'm not sure about expectations for FEs. What types of things are expected? I'm also not sure of how often you do this. Are things expected daily? At the beginning? I just want to make sure to keep up with expected protocol. :D

Hey DCL cruisers! Our countdown is rapidly approaching the TWO DIGIT numbers! Getting excited to pay off my balance this month. My question is insurance. Did anyone opt in? Disney or other? I'm debating. The frugal side is thinking all that money could go towards souvenirs and excursions. Ugh, lol. Thoughts. ..

I am finding this forum format difficult, and I can't seem to find all the messages easily.
Does anyone have any tips for me to navigate this forum?

Would anyone else be interested in being a part of a Facebook group? I would be happy to start it if there isn't one already (I looked and didn't find anything for our cruise date).

Let me know what you think! There's such great information here, and I hate to miss anything!

Melissa

So I just reserved Cabana #24 on Serenity Bay for my daughter (23) and me. If anyone is interested in sharing (splitting the cost :)) please PM me.
I think there is plenty of room for 4 adults total!

My thoughts: I live in Michigan. It's January. So MUCH could go wrong with weather and getting me/us to Orlando in time. It's peace of mine money that, if everything goes belly up, I'm not out of pocket.

Additionally, if anything goes wrong, health-wise, the costs of medical care or return to the US are astronomical.

I consider insurance a part of the peace of mind factor!

What's there to miss? Once you reply to a thread, you get subscribed and you get a notice when the first person replies. That's my cue to check in and see what's going on!

Additionally, once you've clicked the email link and caught up here, once you scroll to the top of the page, you can click on Disney Cruise Line Forum and it takes you to all the posts on DIS about Disney cruises! :)

There's plenty to miss!

I'm not getting any email notifications- that would help a lot. I see alerts when I sign on, or I have to scroll back through pages of conversations. I love reading what everyone is talking about! I've learned so much here.

I did find a Facebook group for our cruise. Search "Disney Fantasy January 23-30, 2016."

Hopefully that will grow, too.

I googled the same thing and people generally did one thing. It sounds like some groups coordinated so that they didn't deliver all on the same day. I'm doing two small handmade gifts and will see if my group comes up with a delivery schedule - otherwise, I'll spread mine out a little. Any way you do it, it will be fun!

Completely agree with this. We buy insurance but not through Disney. We live in PA and so much could go wrong with the weather. Some insurance policies don't take effect until 24 or 48 hours after a flight gets canceled. We always buy a policy that starts the minute a flight gets delayed. You really have to read the fine print.

That's the way I'm leaning too. We will be using Disney Transporation (don't want to have to bring a car seat). We don't have flights booked yet but I know we will be getting in late Friday. DH has limited vacation time so we will be flying out after he get off of work on friday.

We are also staying at the Hyatt, since we get in so late on Friday, and using the DCL transportation. Getting an early bus would be great - I'm sure I won't be able to sleep well anyway. Too much excitement!

yes we are staying at the Hyatt too. We are going to rent a car to drive out to the port.

I originally paid to have DCL book my flight. But cancelled because it was at least $200 more than the going fares. I couldn't find an airline to get me to MCO in time to make the cruise. I most prefer Southwest. While WDW resorts have arrangements for resort airline check-in with SW DCL does not. I booked one night at Beach Club Villas (DVC) and 7 nights after at Boardwalk Villas also DVC. I still have the DCL coach to/from Port Canaveral. Good thing it's January so my lawn won't be waist high.

I've had a busy weekend so I haven't been able to check in for the last few days. Lot's to catch up on.

For people asking about FE expectations, as the organizer I'm really not setting any other then to deliver one gift to each cabin in your group sometime during the cruise. If you want to do more then that great, if not then no worries. This is our first Disney Cruise so I know I don't want to be tied down to a delivery schedule or anything like that. Just keep it a little low key and fun.

We always buy travel insurance when we cruise. We usually just get the cruise line insurance mainly because I'm to too lazy to research a cheaper option. And I figured if god forbid I did have to use it the cruise line would be more familiar with their own option and it might make things a little easier.

we are staying at the Hyatt as well and taking the Disney bus over in the morning. Our main reason was also not wanting to lug a car seat around. And we won't be arriving until 11pm Friday night.

Just wanted to throw in a thank you for the discussion on Target and the Disney Vacation Account. I will definitely have to look into those. As a member at BJ's you can get $150 worth of gift cards for $146.50 -- every little bit helps!

We have bought insurance for this cruise. We usually don't, but after having been burnt once, we do now. Plus with three small children, I think every back up is helpful.
