Prices just hit my threshold :-(

At this point in our lives......we can afford to go to Disney, and afford the price increases.

That said, we have just sold our DVC and it just passed RFR. We stopped eating on Disney property 2 years ago for the most part. We have cut down heavily on any purchases on our trip.

The reason - QUALITY. Disney Quality has become so poor, that even though I can afford to go, I have a hard time spending my money on ...well.....crap. And that, IMO, is what Disney has become......low quality and high prices, now higher prices.

Not sure where you get that info at.
My aunt works for Disney and I can promise you the uber more money then god rich do visit Disney and they spend alot to do so.
And I've been told by others that they don't. It would surprise if many do because there really isn't much in the way of luxury at WDW.

The best part of all the people freaking out is they are doing multiple trips a year so it's not like they don't have money.

For many of us, it isn't an issue of being able to afford it, it's an issue of receiving less value for the money we spend at Disney. Two very different concepts. There are a lot of things I can afford but I don't spend my money on them because I don't feel like the cost is worth what I get out of them.

It has nothing to do with "higher echelon" or anything like that. It has to do with the entitlement culture in this country that seems to think everyone should be able to do whatever they want. If they want something they should have it. Thats not how life works.
Wow, you are really a devout fan. I've rarely seen anyone defend them this much.

That aside, I don't agree that it's all about entitlement. It's also about being able to afford something and over time it has become more and more difficult to do so. We still can luckily but I'm not going to look down my nose at those who might no longer be able to go as easily.

Plus there is also the value aspect. Is Disney worth the money they charge? Everyone has to decide that for themselves.

Disney has hidden luxury.

Quite literally. In 2001, a friend of my Mom's took her and her sisters on a tour of the hidden half floor at the Grand Floridian.

A small portion of the 1% come, and they stay in one of the 50 or so rooms (I'm just guessing) designed for them. In 1998, we got a free upgrade to the Yellowstone Suite for one night, and 2 CM's knocked at the door, introduced themselves and made sure that we knew they were there for us, whatever we needed. That was before WL had official concierge.

They don't however fill the 5444 rooms at the All-Stars, 1984 at Art of Animation, 2880 at Pop Century. That's the strange dichotomy at WDW. "Playground for the wealthy?" But many of the rooms they have built most recently say otherwise.

This thread has taken a "political" turn. Not politics, as in Dems vs. Reps, but in the sense that just about everyone is advancing their world view in their posts. It really isn't about Disney any more, or even this price hike. This discussion could be about any large corporate entity that has just done something that strikes a chord.

I don't like some of the changes that Disney is making. It will almost certainly cost Disney at least some of my business at some point unless they change course. But I'm not going to assign evil intentions to their actions, or even understand why they are making these decisions. I'll just act in my own self-interest each time I decide whether or not Disney makes my list for my next vacation. It is all that I can do that has a chance of making a difference.

Get angry if you wish. Try and figure out what, where, why, how all this makes sense if that is what helps you. That kind of stuff just winds me up more, so I'll leave it alone. It certainly doesn't help me.

These threads are so disheartening.
You are absolutely right! They are disheartening! It seems to me it is a commentary on the direction Disney has taken in the past 5 to 10 years. These boards were never so cluttered with bad Disney reports like they are now. You have long time disers and DVC and annual pass holders complaining in mass! Makes me wonder if the economy does have a downturn if Disney hasn't dug itself into a big hole.

Hopefully this price increase decreases attendance and puts an end to those OMG SEPTEMBER IS SO CROWDED!!!!!! threads.

They will just offer "free" dining during any slow periods and the crowds will flock to pay rack rate so they can eat mediocre food and spend half their trip in restaurants instead of enjoying the parks.

ETA sorry for the off topic rant. I am a bit cranky today.

By building capacity for them by adding more rides, a 5th gate even....

Wouldn't expanding the park just cause more people to come? Just like widening freeways does not reduce traffic congestion. Disney has a huge amount of latent demand that is only being kept in check with huge lines and price increases.

For me, it's not just the prices, it's the crowds too and not all that much that is new. I'm skipping 2015 and 2016 (normally do an annual Orlando trip). Now I am going to do a mini trip in 2017 (3 nights/2 days), but only one day at Disney -- the MK (but I'll be paying the big dollars for that admission and paying to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour) and then I'll do one day at SeaWorld too.

Interesting that while scaled back I am still planning an expensive Disney day at a peak time too -- spring break, even though prices and crowds are worse than they have ever been that time of year.

While I can't dispute that Comcast is an inherently evil corporation run by greedy, soulless minions from hell that rival only Montgomery Burns in their ruthless audacity, I can take comfort in the fact that they have not yet turned their evil eye of Sauron on to the theme parks. There are amazing deals to be found at Universal Orlando, especially for annual passholders.

It's all perspective anyway. I doubt the homeless man sleeping under an overpass on 10 Mile Road in Detroit finds anything at Universal Studios or Disney to be "amazing deals".

No one is saying that they are imagining it. Different people are going to have different opinions as to what is or is not a good value. Some of us think that it still is, some of us do not. If you don't think it is a good value, don't go. If you do go, complaining here is not going to change anything.

This is the "DIS Forum
Do you honestly think Disney doesn't monitor these boards,,,
Yes we all do have opinions and are free to state those opinions.
Many people here have years worth of experience to share and their opinions are valued on the DIS Boards.
What right does one have to say if you are unhappy with the value of something then just don't go.
Discussion is not the same as complaining.
What specific value do you see as being a "good value"?

Hugs Mel

We hit our threshold this year. It has nothing to do with "affording" to vacation at WDW, it's all about the value for our money. So far this year we've done a week in Jamaica (Sandals Whitehouse which I highly recommend), 10 days in Orlando (did US/IOA and SeaWorld as our main attractions and then did some other local stuff like Titanic, Ripleys. etc) and we all agreed it was one of the best vacations we've done in the Orlando area in a long time. As a long time Disney fan I was feeling sad ahead of time about not going to WDW and planned to at least do DTD, but we were so busy having fun elsewhere we never made it and I realized I didn't miss it at all. We have another week planned in November to FL. We're going to hit Daytona Beach, visit some friends in Melbourne and then on to Vero Beach (and not stay at Disney's resort). These are all vacation times and money that has been spent at WDW in previous years. I'm not saying we won't ever go back, but it will be quite a few years away, when some of the new parks are open.
