Please share your experience on the Non-private VIP tour

I just wanted to clarify a few things. The maximum per guide on a private tour is 10 but for the non private it is 12. The continental breakfast offered now includes croissants, pastries, muffins, oatmeal, cereal, milk, coffee, tea, juice, water, oranges, and apples. And there is a new cooler lanyard. I should also add that your guide may ask if there is something you are really looking forward to but it does not mean that "the group" will decide what to do.

We were asked at the beginning what we wanted to do, and we all said Harry Potter - so I'm not sure why they are told that - now if one person in the group wants to ride the Dr. Suess rides all day, then no, that is bot going to happen, unless everyone in the tour wants that. If there are set rides on the guide's list and no one in the group wants to ride it, then, no you are not going to ride that...but the other way around, if one person in the group wants to ride Simpsons, and it's on the tour guide's list, everyone will wait for that one person.

We convinced the guide to let us do a water ride and she really tried to stop us, but all of us said we wanted to do it, and she got us ponchos and we rode it. This might be a unique situation, but we felt that she handled everyone in our group well and we all got to make a decision as a group. We were the oldest people in our group, and we are in our 40's. We had 3 17-19 year old teenagers without parents, an early 20 something couple, and us.

White Rose, thank you SO much for sharing your experience with me! Very helpful. I hope you have a blast on your repeat tour! :)

We decided as a group to ride the raft ride. Tour guide said it was not typically part of the tour and we all wanted to ride it, she told us our shoes would be wet and people have complained about that...we said we wanted to ride it and we did.

When we booked the one for next week we were told 10 was the max for semi private, but if we were a party 7 or more we had to book private. (We were originally a party of 10.)

Also food offered in dec was fruit pastries and coffee, plain black string lanyards were given out in dec 2014. If the food is better then what we had before, I will be happy.

Also, private tour max is 5 for one guide. When you go over 5 you pay for a second guide. I got this info directly from the tour number when we booked.

Again, 12 is the max for non privates. Breakfast and lanyards have changed since 12/2014 (8 months ago). And 10 is tthe maximum per guide for a private. You can have more than that. You just have to pay for an extra guide.

Where did you get this info? I called several times and was told it would be 2 guides for a party of 10, one guide max for private was 5, when we booked for this sept. I thought it seemed crazy when we called but it was confirmed by a supervisor, 5 was the max for one guide private tour. I will let you know what I find out when I ask in person.

I will ask about the max for the semi private too, which I was told previously, for our sept 2015 trip, was 10, but if you had more then 6 in your party, you had to do the private tour. Again, I will check in person.

I will post pictures about breakfast. Hubby said he remembered a few juices out but they were gone and not refilled...which is why I did not remember/ see them. I just remember Danish and coffee. Maybe we had a hungry bunch and they ate the cereral oatmeal and other things, and it was not refilled.

l heard the same thing that Little Mermaid posted about the tours.

i don't know anything about semi private tours, only the public and private ones.

i'd call again to make sure whoever you talked with gave you accurate info.

did you call the vip tour number direct?

i'm sure you want the correct info before you book one for september.

it was directly from the VIP tour line. We called 2x and it was confirmed by them and their supervisor. Because of this we did not book private, and half of our group is not coming till a few days later. I will share the info that is provided in person. We decided to book the semi private VIP tour. It might be wrong info but it was told to us 2x by universal VIP tour line twice, so I can only comment on what we were told.

To reply to my post...we just finished our tour. It did change slightly from before. Max size for semi private tour is now 12 but was 15 at one point, and 10 when we did it in Dec. Private is 10 but after 5 you pay additional per person till you get to 10. At 11, they require an extra guide. It would be over $5000 for 10 people on the private tour!!

Lanyards are new, not black cords, they are still transitioning to them. Also they did have cold cereal and milk, orange juice, a glazed pastry and danishes, no donuts, bagels, or regular croissants. They also had coffee, including espresso and hot chocolate etc in a machine, you need to ask for decaf. We were not given the option for VIP parade or the night show, last Xmas we did get VIP viewing for the Macy's Xmas parade. We did not ride as many rides but covered the biggies. We did the raft ride...did not do Jurassic park, ET, or Simpsons.

We added in twister, did more backstage stuff, including MIB, the mummy, saw the security office for transformers, saw the ride maintenance area for spiderman, and afterwards we did Twister and stayed to watch them reset it. Our guide was Brian, and he was very passionate, fun, knowledgeable and entertained a large variety of ages.

Thanks for the report back! It sounds like a lot of fun. :)

How many people ended up going on your tour in total?

Also, how much time did you spend doing the HP rides and walking/shopping in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley?

We could have spent longer there. We had 8 today in our group. A woman with a toddler who did not ride much of anything, our group of 4, including my dad, nephew, and hubby, and a 20 something couple. We did not have time to shop really unless you skipped a ride. After the tour we went back to both Harry Potter pieces and did some shopping. I got blisters. Ow. Was very fun!

We have a reservation for the day after Thanksgiving for 15 people - $8038.63; two guides. We will start off together & then will separate into two groups (adventurous & non-adventurous); meet back up for lunch & then probably separate again. It's an unbelievable opportunity and I can't wait! I have emailed VIP several times with questions (can we get on the Knight Bus? NO; can you have Ollivander pick ME? NO) and am putting together notes for my Trip Report. Cheers!
