Yes. I emailed Alamo directly and asked them about this and they said yes you do need a visa card for this discount.

Geez Louise.....the current rates are awful!!

My 8 day standard/full with Alamo is currently at $339 (we booked back in June for $161). Its more than doubled.

Today is our six-week point, so hopefully we see some downward movement in prices soon.

Thanks, but that's still way higher than the $161 we secured back in June for our October trip.

$161 with Alamo is still our price to beat.

All money off coupons require a minimum 3 day stay (usually Saturday night required). Never seen a coupon for shorter stays, not to mention it would make zero sense to the rental companies.

I just booked through Costco with Alamo, full size car for $298.00 for 10 days. I would really love to get that lower if I could but this was the best rate I could find including what I was getting through USAA.

Rates are noticeably lower this morning. I just ran a carrentalsavers.com quote for my dates, and Alamo is down from over $300 to $227 for a full size. Still nowhere near my $161 that I'm holding, but headed in the right direction for a change!

We had to tweak our October dates and scored a great deal thru Dollar City Specials. Picking up from Dollar at the Wyndham DTD, 10/18-10/21, Mid size SUV, unlimited miles...total with all taxes and fees: $88.57!!! It was actually cheaper than getting an economy car

Not sure how flexible you are with pick up locations but I did notice that prices for certain vehicles have been slashed when you click on Dollars City Specials. As an example: pick up from the Wyndham DTD for your dates, mid size suv, has been slashed by another $54 dollars. Maybe worth checking?

Thanks for the suggestion, but we don't really need an SUV for just the two of us (we're just more comfy in them versus a car, as we drive a Dodge Journey at home) and an airport pick up is a must. Sometimes its worth paying a little more to have the convenience of not having to fiddle around on arrival ::yes::

I am trying for an SUV, but our Malibu with Thrifty as Blue Chip with AAA corperate two weeks ago gave me $156 for a week and one day. Oct 2-10.

This similar to mine, $14.95 a day $105 week, total. $156. But I am hoping for last minute SUV.

Last year around the same time my 5 day rental was $105 USD. Currently prices are over $275 USD for the same rental. And it seems no matter when I plug in rental dates on Expedia or Hotwire for instance, it always says "we are experiencing a high demand, book now". This is deceptive advertising. Prices do go up, but not this much in the span of one year.
