Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Who else is in the "Carry-on only" club?

Me! Hate the delay of checking bags. Just need to make sure to leave room for the race shirts for Dumbo, and of course my first coast-to-coast medal ;) Hope we get to see the photos of the official shirts on Monday...

Even doing laundry is more fun when you know you will be wearing some of it at Disneyland! Packing has officially commenced. Who else is in the "Carry-on only" club?

I just did carry on only when I went to D23 a couple wks ago and beware......At SNA (John Wayne Airport) Orange County....the TSA people take the ideal of 1 carry on and a SMALL personal item very seriously. I ended up getting flagged, put on a list had to "consolidate" all my carry on stuff. Even the gate agents (SWA) were really serious about this.
Really, how can you go to the D23 and DL and not come home with extra bags?

Both carry on and checked. Running stuff in carry on and regular clothes in checked. Gotta have the extra room for all the loot!

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's awesome! I would have loved to shed a few lbs but it is what it is so I'll just roll with what I got.

For restaurants, we usually like going to Naples in DTD for an early dinner (5:00) and I'll order a pasta dish to share with my wife. I'll get the carbs I need but not feel overly stuffed because I didn't eat all of it.

Thanks! Honestly, Mum and I tend to share most of our meals in the US anyway because they're so huge compared to what we're used to. Sometimes we couldn't even finish half lol!

The consensus with the rest of the group is to see what's available at Von's. If there's anything relatively quick/easy to prepare and appropriate sounding, we'll probably go with that. Otherwise, will keep Naples in mind. Either way, it will definitely be an early dinner :thumbsup2

Based on what I have read, Yes. They stick the band on you at packet pickup.

Love it!

Unfortunately we'll be in the checked luggage camp. Since we'll have a night in Hong Kong on the way through, we'll be packing the stuff we need there in our carry ons so that we don't have to open our checked luggage until we get to LA.

Hopefully there will be no lost luggage incidents, but since we get in on Wednesday, hopefully if there are any issues we'll have enough time to sort something out before the half. Speaking of lost luggage, everyone please make sure you pack your medals in your carry on luggage! We had a bit of a scare last year when we got home and they had lost my checked luggage containing my medal :scared1:

Yes, you will be able to return them so you can purchase with your discount, I just don't know if you can do it all at once or if they have you pick it up, return them, get in line to buy them again. My understanding is that what is returned is taken upstairs to the actual expo store to be sold, so you might have to be in the mercy queue to get the pins again. But the Dooney's are all handled downstairs where you will be picking up your pre-purchased items. But they might let you return and purchase them right there on the spot. Let us know how it works out so everyone will know for the future.

I like getting my discounts without the hassle so I stopped pre-purchasing items. But it is nice to know you're guaranteed to have them!

As for what order to do things, yes, if you go the route of the Dooney's first the official mercy queue is going to be LOOOONG by the time you make it up there. Since you're guaranteed a Dooney if I were you I would do the merch queue first. Pick up a new set of pins with your discount and anything else you're interested in buying, especially if it's something you are worried might sell out. Then go down to get your Dooney and other items. See if they can process the bag all at once and then just return the pre-purchased pins.

I hope that made any sense, but that is what I would do.

Belle Ella - thank you very much for your response. I do appreciate it. Seems like it might be best to get the other merch that I'm interested in and then go get my race packet and pre-purchased items.

What's everybody's transportation of choice? I'm debating between the Disneyland Resort EXpress, Disneyland SuperShutte, or Uber. My daughter and I get in around 9:30am and I want to get to Disneyland hotel as quickly as possible.

Which airport are you flying into? SNA, I would go Uber if you want to get there as quickly as possible.

We're flying into LAX, and will stick with SuperShuttle. We've always gone with them and haven't had any issues so far.

I'd expect Uber would be the fastest. Not sure about the Disneyland vs SuperShuttle, my guess would be it's the luck of the draw on any given day/time.

I'm going rental car at LAX. I like the freedom to choose my route based on current traffic (give it up for the Waze App!) and being able to stop off for a few groceries. My hotel has free parking, and I don't tend to use much gas so it's not a bad deal: $114 tax included for the weekend. And I'll make the offer one more time, if anyone needs a ride from LAX to DLR leaving 12:30'ish on Thursday drop me a line. I'd be glad to help out.

I ordered a car through Super Shuttle I thought the quickest to DLH . We are flying into SNA at 2 pm too bad we couldn't have pooled together to get a car with a few people.

The main thing I don't like about DRE is that a bus only leaves once an hour. So if you just miss a bus, you have to hang around at the airport for another hour waiting for the next one. I like with SuperShuttle that it doesn't matter if your flight is delayed/takes longer than expected to get luggage etc. You just check in whenever you get there and get on the next bus that comes around. The longest I've ever had to wait was about 15 minutes. Even if you then do another lap of the airport picking up more passengers, you're still out of there within about half an hour.

Question about Expo Parking. Is it free? Where is it? One of my friends lives about an hour from Anaheim, so she's going to drive in Thursday AM, meet me at the Expo so she can get her bib (and free ART pass), and then we'll go check in at the hotel afterwards. Our hotel is a little bit of a walk from the Expo, so we're hoping she can just come straight to the Expo rather than walking over from the hotel.

Also, will runDisney allow me to take my carry-on bag around the Expo on Thursday? I'm planning to head straight to the Expo from the airport; I'll arrive right when it opens on Thursday. Again, hotel is a bit of a walk, and I don't know if I'll be able to check in at 9am when I arrive. I could go leave my bag with bell services, but that'll mean I won't get to the Expo until about an hour later by the time I do that and then walk over. I'll just have a wheelie bag and a tote bag that sits on top of it. While it's not the most convenient, I'm very used to traveling with it and dragging it around everywhere with me, so I'm really not that worried about the convenience of it. I'm just wondering if Disney is going to prohibit me entering with my carry-on due to crowds and/or security issues.

We are renting a car as it was 'free' through the hotel package we got- makes the jack in the box runs easier :) we will arrive about 11 am hit jacks and company d then head to the expo, check in and off to Disneyland for the party (hoping to make the tiki meet but not 100% sure on timing yet)
------

No free parking at the Dlh hotel but you should get an hour or so free at dtd parking which is close enough.. I don't think you'll have issues with carrying the bags through the expo at worst I'm sure bell services would hold them for an hour or so..

While I totally understand the Jack-in-the-Box craving, I would feel irresponsible if I did not point out that SoCal has a plethora of In-N-Out establishments. :)

As for the Tiki Room meet, I'll message you my cell # and if you are a late you can text me to see where we are.

I might make the tiki meetup...definitely need to try this "dole whip" that has been so highly touted.

Also have tickets for anniversary party.

Now I need to start packing and hope to God that somehow I have a faster race in me then I have trained for. I dont plan on stopping for pictures - only for water - so please, please, post pictures any of you get after the race.
