Wine and Dine 2015

I submitted my PoT yesterday. I ended up going with my Tink time from 2014. Nothing to write home about, but it's something. Hopefully it will pull me out of the very, very back. *fingers crossed*

(Cross posted to my other race boards- sorry to those who have to see it multiple times)

Came home, it was raining. Plus, I just had a haircut and blow out yesterday. Laced up, put on my running bra, then talked myself out of it. I mean, I spent 2 hours and 90 bucks on my hair. So took everything off.

Then decided that I wanted to make fish sticks and chilli bites (not healthy in the least but bear with me...) from Schwann's. Hmm. Package says oven needs to heat to 475. That'll take at least 10 minutes. Then 7 minutes per side cooking. I could be more than half way done with my short run/timed training while I'm making dinner......

So guess what won out?

Yeah, my do ain't did no more but I'm happy to report that I made 4 miles in 44 minutes on 'mill. :yay:

I'm doing a terrible job with training right now. I was up to 6 miles at the 4th of July but have only been able to run a handful of times since then. I'm hoping to get in at least a few runs in the 10 days and then life settles down a little. Hopefully I can get into a good routine before work picks up again the end of August. The only thing saving me is that I walk a lot for work. Hopefully that will tide me over until I can run consistently.

I know I am late to the party here, and I'm sure it's on the board somewhere but I don't have time to look right now. Are all resort host resorts for W&D? We decided to add a day and get there on the 5th. Since we are staying offsite for the rest of the trip we decided to stay onsite for the first night and have ME transportation from MCO. We will probably end up at ASSports as it is cheapest option, and I know it is a host resort but wondered what other resorts are too??

Don't feel bad, I literally was the same as you. Ran a 10k on 3 July, then was in recovery, and got sick right after, so I lost most of July between those two. I just started up again on Saturday and last night. I didn't lose any of my training, in fact I've consistently been actually running better since the break. Maybe my body needed it.

Everyone falls off the horse, what matters is that you shake the dust off and climb back up into the saddle for another go round :)

So I think I have a spot in the W&D 1/2 through a friend at one on the sponsor companies... I wont be able to submit a proof of Time.... Where would that put me and if its in the back of the pack, what is it like to fight your way through? I just completed a 15K in 1:38... What can I expect?

According to the race calculator I looked at, you should expect a 2:20 finish. You will weave through folks to get ahead if you wish, but there is plenty of room when we are on Osceola Parkway going to and from AK and in the AK parking lot and on World Drive after the Hill of Doom (over the official entrance to DHS, where Green Army Sarge usually makes camp). In the parks can get tight and its kinda dark so bob and weave with caution at your own risk.

It can be frustrating in the last corral because there are a lot of walkers. Of which I am also one sometimes, because I do run/walk, but I try to get as far off to the side as I can and look behind me to make sure no one is right there before I stop! :) I found that at Tink I had to dodge a lot of people who would just start walking wherever they were in the road right in front of me or were walking with a large group 4-5 across. The people that were the most frustrating were the ones that would come to a complete stop in the middle of the road to take pictures or text people or make phone calls. It also got really crowded in the parks and sometimes you just couldn't move very fast, but I feel like that might be a little bit less of an issue at WDW, but I haven't run a race yet there to say for sure. :) I found the biggest choke points at Tink to be in Disneyland itself... CA being newer did not seem as bad.

Well, got a room at AsSports for the 5th so we will be able to get to the Expo when it opens on Friday! :) We are at Bonnet Creek for the rest of our trip, until the 11th. So excited!

Costumes - My DD25 decided we should dress in something coordinating and she wants something super obscure, so we are going as Pacha's kids, Chaca and Tipo from The Emperor's New Groove (one of our favorite movies!). We are probably doing the Junior Chipmunk outfits. Very obscure, lol! Hopefully someone will know who we are!

Except probably without the hats, because Tipo has one ponytail on top that stands straight up! Now we just have to decide who gets to be which character! :)

That was DH's complaint in 2011. Like I said, he runs at a pace that has him finishing a half in about 2 hours, but because he didn't have a race before that to use to submit a time for, he ended up in the back of the pack. He said it was really discouraging for him because there were people that started the race off by walking. So he was dodging people for the entire 13 miles. He said that AK was the worse because the course was darker (naturally given the environment) and tighter, so there were times he was forced to walk simply because everyone around him was too. He still finished, but it added about 10 minutes to his average. On the flip side, I appreciate people being honest and realistic in their times to be assigned a proper corral. When I did my 10k over the July holiday, I was running at the back of the pack (self corralled but I lined up at the back of the 10min mile area) and people around me were faster than that. Plus, as an interval runner, I blew my intervals for the first nearly 2 miles 'keeping up' with everyone around me- who were clearly much faster runners. I guess it works both ways lol

This is what I need to work on on race day. I tend to go out too fast and then drag really badly at the end. I end up going slower than my training pace overall. I don't know if it's the crash after the adrendaline rush of the start wears off or if I just need more training and I'll naturally stick to my own pace. Today I had a good run. Did speed interval training and it wasn't too bad. :)

I always blow my intervals at the start of the race too. :) I feel dumb stopping to walk 2 min into the race. ;) My last 5K I didn't end up stopping until what should have been my 3rd walk break (so, 7 min in).

UGH. I hate that hill. I was hoping wine and dine didnt take it! I need to find an old course map and get an idea but it sounds similar to TOT I guess? That is a good point about Osceola being easier to pass on. I didnt get a 10k in time since the last one I could find was in June and I wasnt ready, so I had to submit my PHM time where I stopped for photos a lot. I should be placed in I or J now, though my pace aligns more in the 2:15 finish range. Oh well. I will save my surge for when I hit Osceola I guess!

I booked my flight yesterday through Frontiers crazy sale. I had to pay $49.99 to join their "discount den" but then I had access to flights for $19 each way! For two of us it only cost $125 total including the fee. Soooo...I extended our trip a day to leave Wed morning now so on Tues night I can drink my mmhop ale while listening to mmmbop! And still be there Friday morning to hit the expo at opening. Now I have to decide on a hotel to add the last night. Since we leave at 6:30am for the flight, I am not really wanting to add a night on Tues at the BC when we would still have access to the resort that last night anyways since it would be check out day. I may book a value and when Epcot closes just walk back and pick up our bags at BC and call a taxi or Uber to the cheaper hotel for the night.

So excited!

Hill Of Doom? Great! That sounds awesome.... I thought Florida was flat? What the heck!:crazy2: I run hilly routes all the time, it should be a piece of cake, right? I will keep telling myself that...

The hill of dooms are really just on ramps to the various roads around Disney.

They suck at least if you live in Florida and train where its flat.

Yeah, I was surprised by it the first time since I kept hearing FL was flat. And really, its is. But disney looooves their overpasses. Maybe because of so much larger vehicle traffic -aka buses- but they are the longest overpasses I have seen. So you are really only going very gradually up it, it is not that steep per se. But the hard part for me was how long I was running up. I remember a volunteer when I came up a crest saying "you are doing great you are halfway up!" I remember thinking WHAT! That is not helpful at all sir! Haha.

Speaking of hills.... I just finished the first of my hill workouts that I've got scheduled for the next 6 weeks. Before I scare anyone- I'm doing a local 10k at the end of September that is uphill for the entire 5th mile. It's brutal! But there are a lot of downhills that make up for it and its a really fun race. But anyhow- I hadn't done any hills since may and I was pleasantly surprised that I did ok tonight. The only thing I can figure is that I've been really consistent at building my mileage and have worked up to 7.25 miles so far for a long run along with doing various other speed workouts on the track or treadmill. So. What i'm saying is, even if its flat where u live, your training will help u on race day (along with adrenaline). I say this every year but its the banked roads you need to be cautious of if you are not used to them. Not sure how to prepare for it either. Maybe princess V will be able to explain it better- she's quite the veteran Florida runner on the boards.

And speaking of adrenaline. I cannot stress enough to try not to go out too fast at the start. I completely ruined my last wine and dine by being too aggressive for the first mile (plus then I tried to make up time after a picture stop). Race how you train, run your own race and pace, and just have a good time. For those in the back of the pack, there will be opportunities to weave and pass people. The highways are huge and we are on them a lot. I started in the back for my first wine and dine- I did run on the grass a little (risky) but be careful to watch the people in front of you to make sure you don't twist an ankle.

Hope everyone's doing well! I took an extra day off this week because I was exhausted but I'm still on track with my training plan so far. My TMJ (jaw issues) is killing me but my legs and knees are holding up....
