Magical express mailer

so I got my luggage tags today (woot woot) for end of August and I noticed a change just a piece of paper and 3 tags 1 for each of us. It's been about 14 months since my last trip and I thought there was a booklet with bus tickets and more then just 1 tag per person. I could be wrong I assume the bus tickets are replaced with magic bands but just wondering when they moved off the booklets. I kind of liked them......
 
It's been 1 tag per person for quite awhile now - as in a few years. And yes, they've gone to scanning the MB's.
 
They did away with the booklets earlier this year. They stopped issuing 2 tags per person years ago when most airlines started charging for more than one checked bag. If you need more luggage tags you can call or e-mail member services to request them or call ME directly to request the extra luggage tags. We fly Southwest so we always request the extra tags. I wish they would ask how many tags you need when making the ME reservation. I always may my reservation online because when I use to call them they always messed up the flight info.
 
ahhh ok so i am not crazy well i miss the book but just happy to get the package! i guess they can save a few cents each per vacation....
 


Is there a remark area to add a note about need two tags per guest? It is a shame they don't add a space like that to the form.
 
Sorry to hijack - how far in advance do you receive the Magical Express stuff? My mother's trip is Aug. 19 and she hasn't received anything yet. Should I have her call someone?

When did she register for DME? Lately, they've been sending out the tags as soon as you register; some people report 4 months in advance. If she hasn't received it yet, she should probably call.
 


I think she took care of it last week. I will have her wait a few days and then call. Thanks!

No there is no place to request when you fill out the online form. If you call MS to make your original ME reservation you can tell them you need two luggage tags per person but that doesn't mean the request will go through. I've had it both ways where I got two or didn't. But the errors on the reservations when I've called MS are why I always use the online reservation form now and follow-up with the request for a second set of tags after the reservation goes through.
 
If you have more luggage than tags and cannot get more in time for your trip you just need to take the receipts for your baggage after checking to the ME desk, they will retrieve all of your luggage and bring it to your room.

We tried that once & it was a total fiasco. I had to track down the luggage with the airline myself & then tell ME exactly where it was and demand that ME go get the bags and have them delivered to me. In future if I don't have the extra tags I will be retrieving the bags myself to take to the bus.
 
I received my tags, etc. this week and our trip isn't until Dec.!
 
We are driving down but my aunt is flying. Her magic band will be mailed to me along with everyones. I made her reservation for the bus but forgot to ask if she will need the magic band. She has our reservation number and should be getting her luggage tags shortly. We are going early September. Also she would like to get her own luggage and then walk over to the bus will that be a problem?

Last christmas we had a suitcase full of presents but no tag for it so we gave the MDE our baggage claim numbers . Well when the luggage was delivered at 10 at night, no suitcase of presents. Called MDE-- no clue. Called the airline and they said they had the suitcase in their office as it was unclaimed. It had our name on it but they had no idea where it was going until we called. They delivered it to MDE and it was delivered after midnight that night. Next time I will ask for extra tags when I do the online check in with MDE!!
 
Here are my DME best practices.
Make your DME reservation online via the DVC member website.
Wait for the confirmation from DVC and then call DME directly at (866) 599-0951 to verify your reservation and/or to request extra tags.
DME changes, call DME directly.
Use a DME yellow tag for each bag and don't rely on using the luggage claim tickets from the airline.

She can pick up her luggage and take it to the bus if that's what she wants to do. If she picks up the luggage herself she should not use the yellow Magical Express luggage tags. In theory any bags with the Yellow tags are pulled for ME before the bags ever get to baggage claim. I bypass baggage claim so I've never verified that this is how it actually works but that's what is supposed to happen.

We fly to WDW on Saturday (August 8) and received our luggage tags yesterday (August 3).
