Any Virgin America Fans?

They don't fly out of my home airport so I have no knowledge of them or how they operate.

Noticed they offered NS service from LAX to MCO.

I currently have a SWA connecting flight booked for the fall out of SNA booked on points.

The Virgin flight would be a more expensive (including the shuttle to airport from DL) trying to decide whether it's worth the 'splurge' and hassle of flying out of 'easy' SNA vs LAS.

Questions:

*Is there any known pattern as to Virgin's pricing as to sales?
our flight date is 6 months from now. Not sure if it would be best to jump now or wait it out (mid week first flight out)

*Is there a carryon luggage fee? Appears as checked baggage is $25 for first bag pp.

*Does Virgin often cancel flights?

*If I purchase the lowest priced seats (I think that would be what they term 'main cabin'), can I select seats 'free' when I book? I amseeing something called 'express seats' on day of booking, not sure what that is.:o

Any hints most appreciated.

You mean LAX, yes?

I adore VA. They tend to be spendy and luggage gets charged for but the experience on the plane is just sooooo pleasant. No carryon fee.

You can order food on the screen, there's a ton on included entertainment on their tv system and some games too, even music and you can set a playlist. The lights slowly change between pink purple blue and just makes it zenlike but not obvious. Another airline is about to copy them with the mood lighting.

And they have a funny safety video.

I've flown them once, alone on a short fight from LAX to SFO. I loved it! I think they're fairly competitive in terms of price with the other airlines. They don't offer nearly as many flights as the other airlines which is the biggest downfall in my eyes.

We used them for our return flight from MCO to LAX. $178 per person for a direct flight. The flight is in November. I wish they had red eyes to choose from because that's what we want for our departure.

SNA or ONT are technically our home airports but we tend to fly out of LAX more because it's significantly cheaper for our family of 4.

And yes, their pre flight video makes me want to fly JUST for it! LoL Also, everything else about the trip was very comfortable, fun and comparable to other airlines as far as pricing.

I flew them for the first time in March roundtrip LAX-MCO. I really liked the airline. I had flown Virgin Atlantic in college to London twice, so I figured it would be a good experience. I really liked all the options for the entertainment, although we lost over half the channels on the flight home. I liked that it was a direct flight. I bought my airfare about 6-8 weeks prior to flying. It dropped for 2-3 days and I pounced. I pay for a seat at the front of the plane as I get anxiety at the back of the plane, so I am mjuch better at the front. I loved the safety video (was quite funny as mentioned). I have looked at them for my September trip, but my Mom wants to use miles on united that she has. otherwise, I would be going Virgin America again. The terminal at LAX also did not seem nearly as huge as some of the other terminals which make it nicer in my book.

Like another poster, SNA would be my home airport (live all of 5 minutes from it), but I still go to LAX for trips to MCO to avoid layovers. Plus, it does tend to be cheaper to go there.

yes, LAX lol I am intrigued by the mention of the video

ok thanks all very much! the rates bumped up again to a total difference of $100 pp this afternoon. All the other days are still low, oh well. signed up for their emails and will monitor in the upcoming months.

If you haven't already, sign up for Elevate, their FF program. Then you'll get the emails with deals. I always manage to book just after and just before I get an email about a deal. And they have big change fees.
