We stayed at Boardwalk last week (week of Mem Day) and they appeared to only scan bands on the weekend/holiday. They didn't scan my kids bands, only mine.

DVC can pool hop? Can they pool hop to the GF? If so that solves my problem as our travel companions are DVC!

From the DVC site...

When staying on your Membership at any Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, or Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

May 23 - 26 (Fri - Mon)

Nice! Looks like we are in the clear. They can come to the GF. Thanks aaarcher86!

I am staying at POFQ this weekend. We want to try out the pool at POR, since they allow pool sharing. When I go to POR, how will they know I am staying at POFQ? Should I bring my magic band or do they check at all? My husband hates wearing the band and I fear he may lose it.

Just bring the MBs. No need to wear them, put them in your pool bag or something, to show if asked for it. Have fun at POR! And remember that they don't just have the one pool, so if you want a smaller quieter pool, they have other options. :)

yes, that is the one thing I don't like about POFQ. only one pool no quiet pool. you are totally allowed to come over to riverside and use any of their pools. they are sister resorts. the main pool at POR has a bigger pool slide, not as babyish as the one at POFQ (but the hot tub at FQ is much better than thoe one at POR.. the one at POR is so clsoe to the main pool , you get a lot of kids using it as a wading/splash pool :(. the one at FQ is set aside more, so fewer unsupervised children)
but POR has 5 "quiet pools". (no mug refill at any of the pools).

They weren't scanning last November. However since the magic band opens the door to your room one of you should have it with you anyway.

As long as it isn't around Memorial Day and they are staying on a DVC points reservation.

no they are not "sister resorts" unfortunately. originally AOA was supoosed to be Pop century, the "legendary years" 20, 30, etc. then construction stopped with the recession. then they decided to build AOA. and whle you can visit each other, use each other's bus stops and food courts, you cannot use the pool ot the other resort.

what a great informative post! i had no idea you were not allowed to pool hop!! thank you for all the information and hard work you put into that post

1996 - First Visit to WDW @ Dixie Landing
2005 - Off Property
2011 - Caribbean Beach Resort
2013 - All Star Movies Resort
2014 - Art of Animation Resort
2015 - Grand Floridian (upcoming)

We spent yesterday afternoon at Stormalong. We are staying at BWI, and when we got to the Luna Pool yesterday mid-morning it was closed for some repair. The lifeguards said it would be a few hours and directed us to another pool on site. I asked the lifeguard about other options, and a handful of purple wristbands appeared out of his pocket. Gave us access to YC/BC pools for the day. If I hadn't pushed, they wouldn't have offered. My kids loved Stormalong. We haven't been to Boardwalk pool yet - they're probably going to be disappointed after BC! :-)

Is Art of Animation included in the All star resorts? I know it is grouped with them for being value resorts and read that anyone staying within the all star resorts can use all the all star pools so just wanted to check before our trip. Thanks!

No. People staying at the All-Stars may not pool hop to AOA.

Does anyone know if the Art of Animation is considered part of any hotel group like the All Stars are a group and you can use any of the pools?

POR and POFQ share pools. No worries there. That goes for the quiet pools.

you can only swim at the resort you are staying at unless they are sister resorts. so anyone staying at Port Orleans FrenchQuarter and Port Orleans Riverside and use all the pools at either resort. they are sister resorts.
same thing with the ALll Star resorts.. there are 3 :sports, music, and Movies.. you can use all 6 pools.
pop century has 3 pools, as does AOA. but they are NOT sister resorts (originally they were going to be, aoa was supposed to be pop century" Legendary years. didn't pan out that way.
so while you can walk back and forthe across the bridge from pop to aoa. and use their pool bar, their food court, their buses. you cannont pool hop between the 2..
and even though pop and AOA are value resorts and all stars are value resorts, it does not mean you can pool hop between them (just as you cannot pool ho[p between Carribean Beach and Coronado springs, even though they are both "moderate" resorts.
the designation : value, moderate, deluxe, is only denoting the class of reosrt ie, cost, ammenities, etc. does not in any way mean pool hopping between them
