The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

Pooh shaped lady over here! Going to Disney in October with nine 13 year old girls! My weight is a huge concern for me on this trip. I've been walking 2 miles almost everyday to keep up my stamina so the girls don't wear me out. VERY concerned about seatbelt on JetBlue. Going with three other pooh sized women too.

I don't have the stamina to keep going all day either. The two trips I've taken in the past year, I went with my son who is half my age. I had to just tell him that I will need to stop whenever I need to stop. Seemed like the later it got in the day, the slower I went. One day I think I had to stop about every 100 yards on the way back to the bus stop. Even with all that, we had a good time. It will all work out somehow.

You can always get a seatbelt extender, if necessary. Don't sweat it!!

Well, I ordered our tickets both to universal and Disney. Monday I got those wonderful tickets in the mail. Tuesday daughter broke her foot. :(. A fractured tarsal bone which means 6 to 8 weeks of staying off her feet. We are 9 weeks away from our trip. Praying like crazy right now!

She may be able to walk at 9 weeks, but certainly not all day at theme parks for multiple days. She's going to be hurting for a while even after the bone mends. You should probably go ahead and start looking into wheelchair (or scooter, depending on her age) options.

She is 25. Are scooters allowed in the park? Do they rent them?

Absolutely! Due to my own medical conditions, I wouldn't be able to visit WDW without the help of a scooter (or ECV, as you'll often see them referred to). I rent one everytime I go!

All 4 Disney theme parks and both Universal parks rent them on a first-come-first-server basis for day use, you just can't leave that park with them.

Or a lot of people opt to rent from an outside company (some examples are Buena Vista Scooters and Walker Mobility), who will bring the scooter to you at your resort, and then you will have it available for the entirety of your vacation, including at your resort and anywhere else she might be walking a lot.

Here on the DISboards, you can visit the DISabilities forum and find a plethora of information about scooter rentals, both on and off Disney property. You're also welcome to PM me any questions you might have. :cutie:

Thank you!

I had looked into getting a scooter the last time I went. If you're going to the parks for multiple days, from what I remember it was much much cheaper to get them from an outside company. Look for the ones that have a deal with Disney that they can pick them up and drop them off at your hotel if you are staying on site. And check about the service arrangements, some of the companies can get into the parks really fast if there is a problem.

When I was younger I broke a tarsal bone in my foot. For my own experience (yours may be completely different) it took 2 years for it to stop hurting completely and for me to stop walking without a limp. I'm sure other people have had better recoveries. Best of luck with it!

The only problem with getting them offsite is, we are staying offsite at she Sheraton which doesn't have consistent shuttle services. We will be driving a regular size car and not sure how to transport the scooter from the resort to park. Don't you have to have a special kind of vehicle for that?

There are some that disassemble and - depending on the vehicle - could fit in the trunk. You might want to call around and talk to some different companies and look at what are on the websites to see if there's anything you could use.

Buena Scooters Vista has one model that can disassemble to fit into the truck of a car easily. However, it is not appropriate for pooh-sized folks.

Walker Mobility has assured me that ALL of their scooters, even the larger ones for us pooh-sized peoples, will disassemble for trunk transport. I won't be able to verify this claim until my December trip, though.

So depending on your daughters size, that might help you decide which way to go with it. :) You should reach out to both companies and see which one might meet your needs best. :)

My kiddo is not pooh sized. She is a healthy, active 25 year old. (Does, or DID crossfit) BUT saying that she has said she would not be caught dead in a scooter at Disney. So it probally will be one of those things where suddenly she decides she can't take it (if she does decide that) and we are going to Guest Relations to see if there are any wheel chairs available. So I guess I don't want to go through the trouble of reserving an offsite scooter if she isn't going to need one, or use one. We do plan to take it easy. Only going to Epcot and Magic Kingdom over 4 days and plan to be at the pool most evenings. I am going to say a lot of prayers that everything will work out fine. And it will with the right additude.

Well, I think we have decided that if my DD is having trouble walking or thinks she will tire out fast we will do the ECV at the park. (Just don't want to fool with renting offsite and having to transport the thing). I was wondering, if she can walk some is there a rule against she and I sharing one? That would be perfect, cause I myself can walk but less walking would be better on my feet.

I can totally relate to not wanting to have to transport it. For many years I did the same, just rented my ECV each day at the parks, for a similar reason... I was terrified of loading on and off the buses with it. It took years for me to get over that fear, but I'm happy I finally did... I love being able to take it around my resort and to Downtown Disney. I'm very much looking forward to being able to take it to Universal with me this year, because the walk from the parking structure to the turnstiles is SUUUUUPER LONG.

Anyhow, I digress! I totally understand the desire to avoid the hassles that come with renting from off-property, and just using the ones available for rent in the parks each day. My biggest piece of advice here is to get there EARLY, as they can and do run out as the park fills up.

And yes, you can share. In my younger days, before my health worsened, I traveled a couple times with a friend with back problems. To save money, for the first day or two of our trips, while our bodies were still fresh, she and I would get just one ECV and pass it back and forth throughout the day. Usually by the third day, one or both of our conditions would be aggravated enough that we ended up each just getting our own for the rest of the trip.

Hope that helps! :)

It does help trmendously! Thank you for all your advice.

Just so you know, ECV's run out on busy days. Just food for thought.

She has one but it will prolly go back to the rental place before our trip. That is a good idea though, we will see.
