Back to School Deals 2015

We don't start back until September, so I really start looking for deals at the beginning of August.

My kids go back in 3 weeks. I wish the stores would put out back to school stuff. I'm going to be scrambling at the last minute as usual.

My kids don't go back for several weeks, but the year-round schools here start in two weeks. So while many of you may have just gotten out, it is time for back to school shopping for some of us.

We don't go back until mid-August but there are a lot of YR schools here and many kids start tomorrow (7/7) so if we don't look now stuff is pretty picked over. We are going today to look for lunch boxes (because if my DS doesn't get Star Wars I'll never hear the end of it!) and a few other items. DD has a writing assignment over the summer that we need the right paper/folder for as well.

Our Staples (Raleigh, NC) has some good deals - .50 for 24 crayons, .50 for a bottle of Elmer's glue, .97 for markers or colored pencils, $2 for a pkg of #2 pencils. I think Target will price match these so I may just do that.

Glad to see this thread! My kids don't go back until the day after Labor Day, but with three kids (each with lists of 30+ items they need for school supplies) I have to start early! I think the sales will probably start up fairly soon where I live.

nothing on sale in our stores yet (Rhode Island). We go back August 26th so I was surprised to not see stuff out yet.

I go through everything they bring back at the end of the year and figure out what I can keep for the next year. I check all the pens and markers and keep the ones that work. I keep fabric book covers, wash them with the regular clothes, and use them again (up to 4 years so far). I even keep composition books and spiral notebooks if they are over half empty (just tear out the used pages). I have one of my older kids inventory everything so I avoid buying things I already have.

I'll be following along so I can stock up for home. I was able to purchase school supplies for my kids through the school ($55 for DD in 4th grade & $74 for DS in 6th grade). It may have cost me more, but it was easy. My DD got a Lands End backpack last year and it help up perfectly. DS got a Nike one and it held up okay, but it was always stinky from gym uniforms no matter how much I washed it!

I do the same thing. It is not necessary to replace everything. Luckily my child does not demand everything be new each year.

I'm hoping I can do this in the future. DS was in Kindergarten this past year and he destroyed his pencils and crayons and went through his glue sticks.

It gets easier as they get older. We recycle scissors, notebooks (I buy the better ones at office supply stores) binders, pencil cases, sharpeners, locker lock, partially used notebooks are used to do homework or scratch paper. I look ahead for what is age appropriate for at least the next grade level. Certain things we have always needed to restock pencils, erasers, colored pencils, etc. My son goes into 7th this fall.

If anyone has to buy books for summer reading or English class (dd needed three books for 6th grade English so I'm guessing I'll need to buy more this year) I highly recommend thriftbooks.com. So far I've gotten four books from them (three hardback and one paperback). They've been under $4, in excellent shape, and shipping is free if you spend $10. And they have had a great selection of what I needed. So much cheaper than buying new from Amazon.

I wish I saw this last night as I just ordered the books from Amazon for all my kids. I'll have to remember for next year.

The deals have already started. Office max and staples have sales. I am almost done with school supplies. Picked up 50 cent Crayola 24 pack crayons, 97 cents crayola markers and colored pencils. I spent about $30.00 for 2 kids including a calculator, scissors, lots of name brand stuff (Elmers and crayola, fiskars scissors) My kids are headed to 1st and 4th grade.

My kids go back on July 20th and their dad asked me yesterday whether I needed him to get anything for them for back to school. We won't "meet the teacher" until 2 days before school starts so I Kent vet a list until then. I did recycle their backpacks and lunch boxes (both from llbean) but they have asked for Twistables instead of standard crayons so I will be on the lookout for those.

Just got back from Walmart and they were setting up their Back-to-School area. We don't go back until Aug 19th, but I am always looking for deals! I also recycle what I can from the year before.

i'm going to try to hold out for the super deals on spiral bound note books at target and walmart when it's closer to school starting. DD went through 20+ last year taking notes. i held back a few from last year to tide her over till they start marking stuff down.
