MAGIC's 2016 Westbound Transatlantic - September 17-28

My son actually turns 12 on the 28th so we plan on spending a couple of nights in NYC. He wants to go to Nintendo World. I have trained myself on cruises to wake up at 130 am to do the bed check. On our upcoming Hawaii cruise we have a Ocean view room right next to the Edge. I like having a verandah, but this will have it's advantages. I booked a verandah for this cruise, because the price is just too good not to.

We must be on opposite Hawaii cruises. I'm on the 17th. Nintendo world sounds fun. My kids haven't seen Les Mis yet, so I think we are going to catch that show. We'll see. Once Hawaii is over, I can better plan for these cruises.

Have you checked prices on Flights. Flight between European cities are generally pretty cheap. Usually cheaper and faster than the high speed trains. I checked some prices this Sept. Rome to BCN was 89.00. Paris to BCN 59.00. Just something to think about.

The only reason we would take the train is because the spouse loves trains. He is a huge train aficionado and would get a kick out of riding the train. He's not seen any of Europe (he was in the Pacific when he was in the Navy) whereas I not only lived in Spain for three years, I went to a British boarding school for two and traveled all over Europe. I loved when I could get a student rail pass for next to nothing and go just about anywhere.

Yes we are cruising on the 7th. I'm contemplating the back to back next year, but not sure I want to take that much vacation at one time. I would like to do a cruise in the Spring, but there is no itinerary I would be willing to pay full price for. We did 5 Caribbean cruises including the Southern in 16 months all with great GT rates. I think at this point we can pretty much stick a fork in the Caribbean. I have even started looking at other lines. They have a lot more options, but I've only cruised DCL so I'm a little nervous about trying something new.

It sounds like you have had quite the life. I have traveled all over North and South America, but this will be the first trip to Europe for me and the kids. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.

I know, I booked EBTA 2016, but the prices are crazy for a TA. I have a wedding I need to attend memorial weekend 2016, so I ended up canceling. I haven't gone Eastern Caribbean, but I can't take advantage of GT rates because I have too many people. So I am stuck booking early with OBC and 10% off. I am going Southern Jan 2016 and I could see not wanting to use all the vacation time on one vacation. I love cruising around May, but the only other one that appealed to me is WBPC, but it's just when my kids' big performance takes place. Spring musical is really important to them, so I don't want to miss that. I looked at NCL for the same Med and a 2bdrm concierge was 2k less than a regular 4B, but like you, I was nervous to switch.

I am sure it would be fine. NCL if you book the concierge has all upgraded dining included and a butler; I am sure it is awesome. I don't gamble and my kids hate being around smoking; those were the deciding factors. I am just paying the higher fees and sticking to what's comfortable. We really went back and forth because on the 10th we will get off the ship so often, but in the end, Disney still won out. I booked 2 smaller verandahs, so it will feel a little bigger than 1 4B. LOL! I think I am going to try a different line for a caribbean or bahamas cruise, so I get an idea of what it is like, but overseas, for my crew, they want Disney. NCL has a really great itinerary for Panama Canal, so I might try that Thanksgiving 2016. 2bdrm concierge is really appealing.

On our Hawaii cruise I'm going to book the 9/10 cruise as my place holder....just in case. I have to May to decide. I'm going to keep my eye on the 5/23 Alaska cruise and 5/29 Norway for discounts. I'm also looking at other cruise lines for Alaska in May, but I'll hold off. There's always last minute deals on Alaska in May.

I am flying into Paris for a couple of days, then hopping on the hi speed train. I love the idea of seeing the country on the ground but getting into Barcelona at a reasonable time.

Question about flying internationally. It has been 30 years since I've flown out of the country and even then I was either a kid and followed Mom or I flew non-stop. Two of the better flights I have found have me stopping either in Ireland or Iceland. Do I have to take my luggage through customs in layover countries or just upon finally arriving in Barcelona?

We did Iceland recently. We had to go through their customs which seemed chaotic but went quickly - almost everyone was heading that way as it is a hub. We did not have our check-in luggage (it went straight through) except for carry-ons and went back through their security and also through their customs. We had an hour connect time and we had no problem even with the amount of people that were there.

The train sounds lovely. Do you have any details? I searched the eurostar but it seems there isn't a station in Barcelona so I assume you are having a few train changes.

Just doing a quick search there is one from Paris Gare de Lyon to Barcelona Sants train station. Currently it leaves Paris at 7:15 am and arrives Barcelona at 1:30 pm. I just want to maximize my time seeing as much as I can. At least this is what I would like to do. Hopefully everything aligns and it all works.

May I ask what the cost was for the room and transportation? I'm trying to budget those now.

Sure! We went with the least expensive option, which was the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel ($385.00 per night). I believe the other option was the Hilton. For the transfers it was $60.00 per person, round trip. I only booked one way transfers, so they pro-rated to $30.00 per person.

I'm interested in this as well! We were thinking of sneaking a quick Disneyland Paris stop in on our way!

YAY so excited! We booked today. We got a whole bunch of us coming. All cruised in the dream before

7114 - Elise & Jenna from Scotland (me and my GF)
8070 - Dianne and Harold from Australia (Mum n Dad)
8068 - Michael and Brenda with Jake (4) and TBA (who will be 1) from Texas (Bro and sister in law)

Kinda family reunion but also an amazing opportunity to cruise in style across the Atlantic!

Soo excited to get involved in FE, meet ups and anything else :)

YAY.

We are on this cruise (Steve and Dee). We are doing a B2B with the 9/10 cruise. So excited. This is our 3rd TA and I could not be more excited for the sea days.

DH (D) and I (R) will be joining in. It is our first cruise.

As we want to make sure we are there on time, we are planning to fly several days in advance with a stop overs to Disney Paris, Paris and a few days in Barcelona.
