"Control, Control...You Must Learn Control" - SWW May 2015 Dining Report - 5/30 Boathouse

Those nachos look and sound very good, will have to try them on our next trip...
Thanks for sharing!

Wow I think I need these!!

I was really surprised on how much I liked them. I was a bit worried as it seemed like a lot of stuff to be on top of the nachos but it all really worked out well!

Thank you for reading! I loved those nachos! If we end up staying at Polynesian again, they will definitely be on my list for when we eat at the hotel!

Boathouse

After heading to the gym, getting dressed, we headed to Downtown Disney a little after 4:00PM by bus as I had no desire to deal with the parking mess that is DTD. We did some shopping for gifts for some of the children of my husband's coworkers prior to our 6:00PM reservation through Open Table at Boathouse. We arrived about 30 minutes early and we had no problem being immediately seated in one of the dining rooms! The inside of this restaurant is very large so they probably can accommodate a nice amount of walk ins in addition to reservations.

Our server greeted us in a timely manner with a great attitude and talked about the menu as we were given both the bar menu and the table menu and some of the specials of the day.

Menu

I ordered a cocktail as we debated on the menu as there was a lot to choose from that sounded good to us. I was given the option of having the souvenir glass or not, but I passed as I already had gotten enough glasses at Trader Sam's the day before.

BsvsOUW.jpg

Lake Squall - Bacardi, Sweet & Sour, Passion Fruit, Grenadine, Orange Juice

This was a perfect fruity cocktail! There was enough rum in there to make you feel like you weren't being screwed over either for the cost.

We placed our order once our drinks arrived and were then presented with their house made rolls.

House Made Parker Rolls w/ Butter

I was surprised with how much we really enjoyed these rolls. We even got a second basket of them as we devoured them so quickly! They were fresh from the oven and the butter melted perfectly inside.

Firecracker Shrimp - Laughing Bird Shrimp, Sriracha Mayo, Shiahito Peppers

My husband and I split these shrimp as an appetizer. There was a great kick to them from the sriracha mayo they were tossed in but not too much that it would burn your mouth. We couldn't stop eating them and quickly the plate was cleared.

My husband and I each ordered an entree and got 2 of the sides to share.

X3qRCGf.jpg

Half Joyce Farms Rotisserie Chicken - Citrus Marinated, Coleslaw, Boathouse Barbecue Sauce

My husband went with the chicken and really enjoyed this! The flavor was present throughout the chicken and was nicely seasoned. I was shocked how he pretty much was able to clean it off as half a chicken is a lot of food!

RexiX4k.jpg

Filet Mignon, 8 Ounce - Bearnaise and Boathouse Steak Sauce

When I ordered this steak, our server said that I should be prepared that this is the best steak I would ever eat as it was for him. Well, it wasn't the best steak I have ever had (I've been spoiled in my life at some really great steakhouses) but it was definitely one of the best steaks I've had at Disney. It was encrusted in a great steak rub and was cooked to the exact temperature I wanted. There béarnaise wasn't too strong and really worked well with the steak.

Fresh Cut Fries

Their sides are huge! You can tell these fries are fresh cut just by looking at them and they are tossed with enough salt and pepper that you don't have to add anymore. We both had a fair amount and it didn't even seem like we made a dent in it!

RBP9vEq.jpg

Steamed Broccoli, Hollandaise

If I have to say one bad thing about this meal, it was the broccoli. For $9, you got 2 big pieces of broccoli which didn't really seem like a lot. My husband was happy with it though as it at least gave him some vegetable to eat today since we were slacking on that front.

We passed on dessert as the only one that interested in me was the Gibson's S'mores Baked Alaska that is a dessert made for 4 people & $40. As two people that had just ate a decent amount of food, there would be no way it would be worth it for us to even attempt to have that.

Overall, we really enjoyed the Boathouse. Our server was in a great spirits and we had the manager come by our table and speak to us to make sure everything was as great as to be expected. We are totally returning here again during our October trip!

Happy to hear you enjoyed such a good meal at Boathouse! When did you check on Open Table for reservations? Trying to get a gauge for how ressies are working for it.

Oh, by the way, I'm running Wine and Dine this year. What's your next runDisney race?

Oh, by the way, I'm running Wine and Dine this year. What's your next runDisney race?

I checked Open Table about 2 weeks before this trip to see if it was open. I was happy to see it was! I know they are going to start using Disney ADR system as well but at least with Open Table I get the 100 points towards a dining certificate (and I can cancel day of without a $10 per person penalty)

My next runDisney is the Jingle Jungle 5K on Wine & Dine Weekend. I really didn't enjoy running at night during Tower of Terror as starting to run at the time I usually go to bed was really difficult to keep alert for me even with the great crowds around. I'll be at the after party while you are running :) My husband and I are signed up for the 5K + Rebel Challenge on Tuesday with the AP/DVC early registration. I need to start upping my mileage before my lack of running lately as I think I'm signing us up for either a 10 Miler or 10K in October in Naples for a training race and to help make sure we aren't slacking prior to those races!

Nice Boathouse review, this is one place that I have yet to visit... looks pretty good though!

Open Table
Love Open Table, we use the app often, and I like watching the points stack up, lol.

Oh yum! Those look like the Parker House Rolls my Gramma used to make! :lovestruc As long as I've been baking bread I can never seem to get them as perfectly golden as she did. Those look really tasty and pretty drink by the way!

Eep! I agree that is overpriced for broccoli, we're mainly veggie eaters with a bit of fish and seafood, so we may have to skip this one, but everything looks yummy!

Glad you had such a rockin' experience there and that your server was fab!

Your meal at the Boathouse looks fantastic! I could have made a meal of those rolls alone! We will have to try to eat there next March for sure!

know, right? When I went on an actual safari 8 years ago, they totally let us have wine on the game drive. Why can't Disney allow that?
Seriously? We should totally start an online petition.

Instead of typical nacho chips, it was actually wonton chips and potato chips. I was surprised on how much I really enjoyed these! The pulled pork really played off the mixture of toppings that were on the nachos. It also was a ton of food so I wasn't able to finish it.
Wow, these look awesome. I'm sure we'll be eating these when we are at the poly in a few months

I love a good Parker House Roll and those look delicious.

Firecracker Shrimp - Laughing Bird Shrimp, Sriracha Mayo, Shiahito Peppers
These looking great, though i gotta ask. Any idea what laughing bird shrimp are though? Thats a new one to me.

I love a good filet. Glad this worked out so well for you.

The boathouse looks great. I especially love all the different places they have to eat there and outdoor seating, which IMO disney just doesn't have enough of. We are staying at POFQ in a few weeks for a quick getaway and plan on either Boathouse or Raglan one night since we'll be a boat ride away from DTD

Nice Boathouse review, this is one place that I have yet to visit... looks pretty good though!

It is super new so I suspect a lot of people haven't tried it yet. I was happy it was such a great meal. I'm glad that they are finally working on turning DTD around and getting all these new restaurants and bars to help fill that void for adults since Pleasure Island was closed.

Great boathouse review!! We may go there on our next trip.

We're totally going back during our F&W trip even if that means I have to miss another favorite. I'm hoping STK and Morimoto are also open though.

When is your next trip?

Love Open Table, we use the app often, and I like watching the points stack up, lol.

During season in Naples, Open Table is pretty much the only way I eat at the nice places so I don't have to worry about how the wait will be. I'm super close to a $100 certificate which will be great for a nice dinner!

Oh yum! Those look like the Parker House Rolls my Gramma used to make! :lovestruc As long as I've been baking bread I can never seem to get them as perfectly golden as she did. Those look really tasty and pretty drink by the way!

I loved those rolls! I can never get mine that well made either. They do have a nice amount of fish and seafood on the menu for entrees, we just weren't really in the mood for it. They had a ton of oysters and a decent raw bar from the looks of it.

Your meal at the Boathouse looks fantastic! I could have made a meal of those rolls alone! We will have to try to eat there next March for sure!

I never have eaten so much bread at a Disney Restaurant, save Victoria & Albert's. So good! It also helped that all the other food was great too! You should love it!

Seriously? We should totally start an online petition.
:thumbsup2

Wow, these look awesome. I'm sure we'll be eating these when we are at the poly in a few months

How long are you staying at the Poly for? Overall, Captain Cook's looked like it had some great selections for CS that were different from the norm which was good. You gotta switch it up from the standard burger, chicken, and salad options from time to time.

I love a good Parker House Roll and those look delicious.

Laughing Bird Shrimp is a farmed white Caribbean Shrimp. They have a little bit different methods than other farmed shrimp but overall their taste is very clean and a great shrimp! If I could only eat one protein for the rest of my life, it would be shrimp.

I think Disney doesn't have a lot of outdoor seating for sit downs as the weather isn't really the most conducive to it. Many months it is so hot and humid that no one would really enjoy to have a nice long meal out there and then we have the random thunderstorms that just like to come from no where.

Boathouse had a decent set up for the outside as well.

I'm super close to a $100 certificate which will be great for a nice dinner!
Congrats on that! I really like that Open Table has the 1000 point experiences as well, though we've not tried one yet. It is nice to know that Open Table can be used at Disney.
I loved those rolls! I can never get mine that well made either.
I've read as much as I can about Parker House Roll including recipes and baking techniques, just hope one day to get it. lol.
They do have a nice amount of fish and seafood on the menu for entrees, we just weren't really in the mood for it. They had a ton of oysters and a decent raw bar from the looks of it.
Oh their seafood sounds very nice indeed! The cost of veggies still seems strange though, but I'll read up on the menu. :)
Enjoying your dining report by the way! :D

I had the nachos at Captain Cooke's and really enjoyed them too!

I'm glad to see a Boathouse review as I've been curious. I wanted to eat there when we went last, but the prices were a bit high so it wasn't in our budget. The menu descriptions weren't really impressing me either, but I'm glad to hear the food quality is good. I'm sure we'll get to it eventually.

Great dining revues!! I really want to go to Trader Sam's...but I will have my DD with me in October...and not sure she will be into it....especially if we had to wait...but those glasses are awesome. The food at Boathouse looks amazing too...especially that bread!!

Thanks for the tip on Boathouse. I really would like to try it. I'm so excited about the dining options coming to Disney Springs. I was so hesitant at first, but I'm really hoping it'll be all great changes.

I understand and hear that often about running night races. I'm hoping that I'll be better prepared for the late night this year and will be able to better fuel, rest, and hydrate based on what I know did work for me and what I need to change (i.e.: I was so not hydrated enough and ate too little because I was so afraid of being sick from a heavy meal). That's so cool that you're going to do be running the 5K and Rebel Challenge. I hope you do a TR for it!

We are staying at the Poly in August and those pulled park nachos were on the top of my list for Capt Cooks. That picture just seals the deal now.

Looks like you had a great trip! The Poly Villas look absolutely beautiful. I am really hoping to plan my next trip far enough in advance that I can score a reservation there.

We had a blast at Trader Sam's as well, but like you said, I hope the crazy wait times die down soon.

Love your Boathouse review! It was the only thing I really wanted to do on our most recent trip, but didn't get a chance to experience. Hubby was not terribly interested and it was so insanely expensive, so why waste the money for something he doesn't want. The only thing I really wanted was a lobster roll, which was $29 and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Maybe next time.

Congrats on that! I really like that Open Table has the 1000 point experiences as well, though we've not tried one yet. It is nice to know that Open Table can be used at Disney.

The 1000 Point Experiences around here tend to be the odd dining times like right at 5PM or before or after 9PM. We've done those on days my husband has had off as we really don't mind eating at 4:45PM if it works in our favor for something like that. Open Table only works for some non - Disney owned placed.

I've read as much as I can about Parker House Roll including recipes and baking techniques, just hope one day to get it. lol.

Oh their seafood sounds very nice indeed! The cost of veggies still seems strange though, but I'll read up on the menu. :)
Enjoying your dining report by the way! :D

I bet you'll find a recipe that works one day! The cost of veggies was high but at the same time not really as some other steakhouses (which the parent company for Boathouse is known for) tend to be really overpriced for that stuff.

I had the nachos at Captain Cooke's and really enjoyed them too!

I'm glad to see a Boathouse review as I've been curious. I wanted to eat there when we went last, but the prices were a bit high so it wasn't in our budget. The prices are a bit high but we are really desensitized to high dining prices at this point both at Disney and at home with it being tourist areas. We found it was worth it to us but I totally get why others may think its a bit much. There are going to be so many new great options at DTD that I can't wait until they all open!

Great dining revues!! I really want to go to Trader Sam's...but I will have my DD with me in October...and not sure she will be into it....especially if we had to wait...but those glasses are awesome. The food at Boathouse looks amazing too...especially that bread!!

You could enjoy the drinks outside on the Patio after 4PM and they don't really have a wait there ever. You don't get the fun antics but at least you get the tasty cocktails and some music playing! Glad you enjoyed my report!

Thanks for the tip on Boathouse. I really would like to try it. I'm so excited about the dining options coming to Disney Springs. I was so hesitant at first, but I'm really hoping it'll be all great changes.

I'm really looking forward to all the great changes at Disney Springs as well! The info that came out this week about the Edison has me excited as well. We may end up going to Disney Springs way more in October than other trips where we stayed so far away for the most part. I hope you are better prepared as well especially after going through your first one! My husband feels the same as at least he knows what had worked at Tower of Terror and what didn't. At least for W&D our day will be as follows with the Jingle Jungle 5K - Breakfast Buffet to protein and carb it up, relax at the hotel for a long nap/steam room/hot tub and he'll have a 'dinner' of a bagel turkey sandwich which we did last time for ToT. I'll get to have real food in EPCOT ;) I will do a TR for it! I'll probably start the PTR for it after the W&D trip unless I end up getting really motivated before that.

We are staying at the Poly in August and those pulled park nachos were on the top of my list for Capt Cooks. That picture just seals the deal now.

I'm glad I could help seal the deal! I got mine sans tomatoes so at least you know if you really don't like one of the things on it you can get them to leave it off!

Looks like you had a great trip! The Poly Villas look absolutely beautiful. I am really hoping to plan my next trip far enough in advance that I can score a reservation there.

You had a wonderful trip as well from what I saw on Instagram! Hopefully you'll get to plan 7 months in advance for one of yours for that! That's awesome you enjoyed Trader Sam's so much as well - I think once the nightlife options grow at Disney Springs that might take some of the crowds in that direction.

$29 is a lot for a lobster roll, especially if your husband didn't want to eat there either! At least next time, I hope they will take TiW since they have added the dining plans now.

Wow - boathouse looks awesome! I will have to schedule it in on my september trip!

It was awesome! We were glad it was so good so it can join our Disney restaurant rotation!
