Is this realistic?

Good job getting back to Zumba. Sorry about the asthma, the allergies have been pretty bad this year. My son and daughter are having trouble as well. I typically don't have allergies but the last couple of years they are even bothering me.

I got up and did 6 miles this morning. I had 3 days off from exercise because of that little cold I had. I am sore today as a result. I wasn't feeling it but I pushed through and got it done. I had work after that. I have tomorrow off so I may do another run. But if I wake up really sore I will do a bike ride instead. I will do something though.

I think if you go into the Crossfit with the right expectation you will be fine.
I went to my first class on Thursday - they teach it Tues/Thurs at my gym. I was impressed with the pair running the class. They did a not great job leading a warm-up, but I'm used to being expected to warm up on my own anyway, but that was my only complaint. They grouped people according to experience and for those of us not used to dealing with some of the exercises, they did a good job explaining and helping adapt. The woman I was paired with had zero core strength, so she needed a lot of monitoring, but I was familiar enough with the exercises like goblet squats, that I felt okay monitoring her. I was still a little sore, but it's a good sore, so I'll probably go at least once a week.

As for my decision. I actually had an answer before you both responded this morning. But, you helped me confirm it. I spent some time thinking last night. My goals are simple, to get to Disney. That's goal #1. I love it there and it makes me happy. Goal #2 is to experience Marathon weekend and see what it is like. I picture it being so fun. ToT was a blast and this is bigger. So, either choice is a good choice based on those goals. I know my wife will give me a hard time if I go so that may backfire but it doesn't really matter which race I pick.

So, I am going to go with the marathon. If I had signed up for Goofy through RunDisney it would be different because I could bargain shop for lodging. Through the travel providers I have less options and have to pick one. And they don't even know what their inventory is yet and won't know for a month. If they only have deluxe I have to do that. So, I will go for the one race, have more park time, and with the savings doing it on my own I may splurge on a nicer hotel or rent DVC.

But I am planning to get up tomorrow. I have to go to work early because I still have not gotten my missing money from back in January (I am pretty sure I mentioned it right?) so I have to go in and work with my boss to prove I made the sales to try and get the money. He said they are trying to not pay me.

I may be out for the marathon. Some stuff came up today financially that may prevent me from going. Even though it won't really cost me much, because I get a free flight from my JetBlue card, and I have won a few gift cards at work from some contests I just might still skip it. I have time to decide because it was still at 72% yesterday. I feel bummed out but we'll see what happens.
First, I'm really sorry about whatever has come up. I do think you'll have time to decide and maybe work something out, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Second, even if you don't get to go, I'm really impressed at your thought process in deciding between the marathon and Goofy. I think you made the right choice for you.

Well I did follow through and go to Zumba today. My asthma is acting up due to all the pollen but I survived. I may try to go tomorrow night when I get back home depending on how tired I am.
Glad you made it to Zumba, and hope you get a few more workouts in soon!

I am still experimenting with the pictures so sorry if this is too big.

Chiomaca, thanks for the vote of confidence. I am glad you had a good first experience with Crossfit. I hope you achieve the results you are looking for and that it helps your running goals as well.

I didn't wake up this morning. I turned off my alarm to go running with the thought of laying there for 5 more minutes. Well, and hour later I woke up. Then I had a busy day so I didn't end up doing anything. But, it is my only real day off this week so I decided it was OK to relax, after all it is Memorial Day. I spent some time with the kids and I even had a small ice cream tonight. I haven't done that in about 18 months.

But, back to the routine tomorrow. I feel myself drifting back to some bad eating habits, I need to do a sugar detox again.

I hope everyone had a good long weekend.

Hope you got up and out this morning!

The pic was fine size-wise.

I had a slow Memorial Day, volunteered at a Team RWB/U.S. Vets picnic for homeless veterans living in transitional housing. Served some barbeque, some cake, and played games with the mixed group of folks. It was nicer than expected, which made the day pleasant. Today it's supposed to be up to 90 in the afternoon. Thankfully I did get myself up and out this morning! I'd looked at the temps and knew that if I was going to run this week, it was going to have to be in the morning, so I packed my backpack and laid out my running clothes overnight. It was a rough run - much slower than last week's morning run, but I do think it was warmer even if it was less humid. Still, at least there's 3.5 under my belt for the week. I am doing trapeze on Wednesday, so I'll do the cross fit class again on Thursday. Will probably need to run again Friday morning and then try for a long run Sunday.

I've looked at Cross Fit because my zumba instructor's son runs one and she is obsessed with it. I just don't think I am ready yet. Plus it is 45 minutes away. Glad you had a good experience.

We spent the weekend at a friend's out of town so we did not get home until 4:30 on Memorial Day. Just enough time to prep food for the week and make dinner. I did prep salads for the week so that is a plus. I was considering going to Zumba last night but lack of time and the fact that I am still sore from Sunday made me decide not to. I can't go Wednesday because DD has a chorus concert.

I weighed in this morning and was up 0.8 lb. I am hoping that is just due to extra water weight because I am so sore. Trying to get a handle on my eating this week. Making a real effort.

Anyone remember me?!! I'm sorry for just disappearing on you all. I don't have an excuse except one that's similar to StayCool's (I got caught up on the last couple of posts!). I didn't have anything to report and it was frustrating me. I know I'm welcome here but I didn't feel like I deserved it anymore because I was being a lazy slug. Few things motivate me more than annoyance and frustration so I decided I needed to go away until I earned my spot back!

I think I'm ready and motivated again. I got the new Fitbit ChargeHR for Mother's Day so I gave my Flex to my husband. We have been competing in challenges against each other and it's very motivating. In fact when he went out for a walk tonight instead of sitting on my butt I walked in circles in the living room (while trying to get the kids to get ready for bed, which is why I didn't go for a walk with him)! I was at 6909 and didn't stop until I hit my 10,000. He was home by then and I checked the stats in the challenge and he was ahead of me by 148 so I walked another 500 just to keep me up front! Saturday night I went to an aquafit class and after it was done I was waiting for my husband and girls and instead of sitting I walked in the parking lot until they arrived. Those are two things I would have never done before. I also started running in the river again - we were still going to the pool but it had become more of a float/gab session than a workout but I've gone the last two days and ran and I'm going again in the morning. Also my daughter asked if we could start the couch to 5K app again so I said we would this weekend. It feels good to be back on track. The pool is closed for it's annual shut down for 3 weeks starting on June 1st so it will be much more challenging getting in some of the exercise - there are a couple of other pools close by that I can maybe get a class or two in but none that are walking distance so it will have to be better planned out but I will keep at it. Now that my husband seems to be on board more we can maybe do a couple of hikes on the weekends - there are literally hundreds of hikes within an hour of me and it's time I started taking advantage of them again.

I'm off to bed now but I'll check in again tomorrow :)

Oh yeah and I rejoined weight watchers! Yeah me.

I think as long as the Crossfit group is welcoming of newbies, it has a good chance of being helpful. Strength training is really important for weight loss and general health, so you might consider something along those lines. 45 minutes is a bit excessive to go to work out unless you're hiking or skiing or something similar. There's got to be something closer to you. They group I worked out with were very welcoming to newcomers, to the point of giving my group a medicine ball instead of a barbell because I'm not used to working with a full sized bar and my partner might have weighed less than the barbell.

Good for you! I'm sure the salad preparation is helpful.

Well, it sounds like you all have found some motivation, which is great!

That's a lot of steps in a small circle, but I'm glad you got them in. I like the motivation of the tangible number. The new iPhone OS has the "Health" app which doesn't do a lot of good without the Apple Watch, but the step tracker works and hooks into MyFitnessPal, so that's cool.

Glad to see you both back, StayCool and Dizzy!

I am happy to see the activity picking up here. Dizzy, welcome back. I'm sorry you didn't feel you deserved to be here. I hope you keep coming back. I hope you find your motivation and start back toward your goals. I am glad you and your husband have a competition going.

A question about Crossfit to Chiomaca and StayCool, who seems to be considering it as well. Do you pay by the class or monthly because every time I get an advertisement for a new Crossfit gym I look at prices and they are all around $150 month for unlimited visits, which seems ridiculously expensive to me. I think they have all had pay-per-class rates as well.

I didn't get out of bed for my bike ride this morning. I have been up late dealing with/worrying about that situation that has surfaced. My wife and I have come together and try and fix it and make the best of the situation. We still have some stuff to work out but for now things are OK. My busy time at work is supposedly starting up so I should be able to start making some money as well, which will also help.

Anyway, so I took the extra hour of sleep. But I am planning to get up for my run in the morning.

Yay! I'm glad you got back on track. :) I know I've been struggling for so long it just got old and I figured everyone was tired of listening to me repeat myself. lol That is awesome that your husband is willing to do it with you. It makes it that much easier. You are rocking this!

I live in the middle of nowhere. It's 30 minutes to get anywhere. So I'm in between 2 Crossfit places. I'm sure that the one I was speaking of is newbie friendly based on people I know. It is just really inconvenient. That is why I go to Zumba. It is 15 minutes from my house and that is honestly the best I am going to get. I am glad that you had a good experience when you went. :)

I really am not sure about the price but I think unlimited classes are more than $150 a month here. I'm glad that your wife is working with you peacefully. Hope everything works out.

I'm just bumping along. No Zumba last night due to DD's spring concert. I'm considering what to do tomorrow. There is the 5 am Zumba class (erf, I don't want to get up), do the 5 mile loop near my house and just walk it, or actually try to do some running (scary). The only thing I have to do is take the kids to the orthodontist.

It's free for me because it's taught at the Pentagon Gym. So, not free, but included in my gym membership. The boxes for CrossFit (that's what they call themselves....because gyms are too fancy or something) are expensive because the instructors have to be certified, which is a super expensive process, and the insurance they need to carry is massive. And the wear and tear on weight lifting equipment and mats is probably significant, too. I think I saw that the Team RWB in your area does CrossFit, and usually those are free for members, which is another bonus of that group. I know mine runs CrossFit, Boot Camps, and Yoga classes in addition to runs and bike rides. Right now I just run and volunteer with them.

I'm glad you guys are working things out together. I know how challenging that must be for you.

Ah, that's a fair point. At one point I had a 45 minute commute each way to work and distance meant so much less than it does to me now. If that's the case, then I'd ask your Zumba instructor for her thoughts on a time in your schedule that would work for you to take a class, maybe with her as support, and give it a shot. Today's work out was a huge challenge for me to get through with decent form, so again...you have to listen to your body. There are some definite things I don't like about CrossFit but as long as I work to my own ability without my competitive nature pushing through, I figure I'm okay.

I'm considering what to do tomorrow. There is the 5 am Zumba class (erf, I don't want to get up), do the 5 mile loop near my house and just walk it, or actually try to do some running (scary).
Go out for the run! Walk/run, whatever....or start it as a walk and then run a bit when you're warmed up! Either way, you'll feel great for getting out.

StayCool, Whatever happened to the 21 Day Fix. Weren't you guys going to do that or am I just thinking that because I saw the infomercial this morning? I agree with Chiomaca. Doesn't matter if you walk or run. Just get out and get back in the habit. Once you get in the habit you will eventually start running because you will want to push yourself. Just get in the habit of doing something 5 or 6 days a week until it gets to the point you miss it when you don't do something.

I was up at 4:45 am to do my run before work this morning. It was an awful run. Everything hurt. I was stiff. I couldn't loosen up. But, I did my 4.5 miles. Tomorrow I plan to do a bike ride. My kids have field day tomorrow so I need to get my ride in before I go spend all day at field day with them. And there are 4 of them so I will be all over the field trying to catch a little bit of all of their days.

I got a bit of good news at work today. I spoke with the lady that handles donations for my area. She explained how Verizon's donations work. Basically, if I make a donation to my charity for the Boston Marathon they will match up to $3000/yr. So, if I can convince people to send/give me the money and I take it and make the donation in my name then I only need to really raise $2500 to be able to run Boston. Of course I would try for more but it just made running that race a lot more realistic. Of course it means I can't look for other jobs until after the race, which stinks a bit, unless the new company will do something similar.

And now that my financial situation is looking better in the last 2 days I am getting closer to pulling the trigger on signing up for the Disney marathon, and the other 2 races for the rest of the year. I would explain the situation but it would be too much to write. It doesn't even make sense to me and I know what happened.

Just a quick check in - thanks for the warm welcome back. Tomorrow is the schools fun fair fundraiser and I spend the night making cakes/cupcakes for the cake walk. I got my 10,000 steps in yesterday but I'm only at 9,000 for today. I'm tempted to get up and walk in the living room to get my last 1,000 but it's 11 and I'm tired and really should go to bed! Will write more on the weekend :)

I got in my extra 1,000! It really makes me realize how many steps I was giving up all those times I asked the kids to go get me something from another room - you think it doesn't make a difference but it quickly adds up! NOW I'm going to bed :)

Dizzy- good job getting in those extra steps.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. It was a busy day. I had the day off but spent it at field day at the kid's school. So, I spent the day all of the field trying to watch the kids. Its pretty hard having so many. :) Then I got to bed last night and a friend was texting me so I didn't get on the computer.

I got in 13 miles on the bike this morning before I went to work. I was tired at work all day as a result. Tomorrow is my long run day. So, I am getting up early to get it in before work and before the rain hits. They have been saying it would rain almost every day this week and it hasn't but tomorrow its really supposed to.

That's about it for me. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Busy couple of days for me - Friday was our school's fun fair after work which the kids love. Both my cakes and cupcakes won in the decorating contest :) After the fun fair ended I went to my friends house who was having a "31 bag" party. I walked home from her house (about 20-25 minutes) because my husband was ahead of me in our step challenge! I beat him in the challenge but realized I was only 400 steps away from 15,000 so I did some laps of the living room again! Yesterday my husband was working and then went out so I took the girls to the pool and out for lunch. Got my 10,000 steps in by 3 and then lazed around most of the rest of the day! Today I'm torn between feeling lazy and doing something energetic. I don't want to lose momentum but I also have a ton of stuff to do at home and I know if I go out I'll probably end up not doing any of it. I'm off tomorrow because it's a Pro-D day for the kids so I need to make sure if I'm lazy today I'm active tomorrow!

Sounds like lots of good progress. It's always tough getting back to the run after a few days feeling bad. Great news on the financial front, both Boston fundraising and in your personal life.

I got in my extra 1,000! It really makes me realize how many steps I was giving up all those times I asked the kids to go get me something from another room - you think it doesn't make a difference but it quickly adds up!
Yup, it does add up and I'm really happy you're noticing that.

I got in 13 miles on the bike this morning before I went to work. I was tired at work all day as a result. Tomorrow is my long run day.
Hope you got your run in. I was going to run this morning, but the wine tasting day I did on Saturday made waking up this morning difficult. I did a big CrossFit workout on Thursday and that kept me super sore for a few days...I'm only now going down stairs without pain - which is a big deal when you live in the three story row house!

Both my cakes and cupcakes won in the decorating contest
Congrats!

I beat him in the challenge but realized I was only 400 steps away from 15,000 so I did some laps of the living room again!
I love that you guys are competing with each other!

YAY Dizzy for being back. I am glad you are back and posting. I am glad you seem to be making some forward progress. You do deserve to be here so hopefully you don't disappear again.

Chiomaca, I feel your pain about the stairs and being sore. My plan is to start P90X again tomorrow. It has me a bit nervous because there will be days and weeks of soreness ahead. But it needs to be done.

I was so sore at work today. I did 7.75 miles this morning before work. I am tired. If it's not raining in the morning I will be up for my bike ride. I am keeping it short because I need to get to bed.
