A First timers DisneyMoon Dining Report - Updated La Cantina de San Angel 8/6

Cosmic Rays is always packed. That's one of those places that you have to go in with a game plan. Making a mental note about the chicken sandwich.

Cosmic Rays is always crazy to eat at. I am so glad BOG is a CS now as i prefer it now over old CR, however getting a reservation is another thing!

Following along with your DR....Your meal at Prime Time sounds amazing! I think the restaurants sound like the best things about DHS lol...That chicken sandwich you had sounds a bit..odd.

I can't believe TT ran out of hamburgers, crazy. I'm with ya on the chicken sandwich. Disney does a good fried one, but none of the "grilled" ones are too tasty

I KNOW and it wasn't even that late. Probably around 2-ish. I need to find their fried chicken sandwiches because their grilled ones aren't doing anything for me.

The staff seemed to be quite used to the crowds and they responded very efficiently toward the influx of people. It was crowded but not chaotic.

I actually wanted BoG for lunch originally but I made my ADRs before you could make ADRs for lunch and my TA said if I really wanted to make sure I get in to do Dinner.

Prime Time was fantastic and I would highly recommend it. It was really odd. I didn't expect it at all when I took off my top bun to see what I had gotten.

For dinner we headed to the beautiful Be Our Guest.

Unfortunately my Canon's battery was running low and I wanted to save it for the parade so the photos here were taken with my waterproof Panasonic aka they're not as good as they would normally be.

To start off we had returned to Magic Kingdom for our ADR and we were only about 10 minutes early when we checked in. The wait time was pretty normal, probably about 10 minutes. Not long at all. It probably felt longer because there was really nothing to do on the bridge other than looking at the mine train ride go by.

We were called in and the interior of the restaurant was stunning. I really felt in terms of restaurant atmosphere the decor in here was fantastic. Most beautiful place we ate so far. However, it was very noisy. The tables were quite close to together and it was bit irritating that we could hear the other couple's conversation clearly. The family on the other side of us apologized as they had a little girl (super cute dressed up as Belle) who was fussy throughout most of meal.

The service was decent. It wasn't fantastic but not bad, we left our usual 18% while our previous servers got 19-20%.

The rose napkins are a beautiful touch.

The rolls came and they were quite delicious and soft. I only wish that the butter was easier to spread because it was quite good also.

We both got the All Natural Fruit Punch as a beverage in addition to a glass of water. It had the foam on top. This was very odd. I make punch all the time, many different ways, and this was the first punch I've tasted like this. It tasted quite artificial and sickly sweet which the foam at the top helped to cut a bit. DH agreed that if we come here again we will stick to the water.

For an appetizer I ordered the potato leek soup.

Half-Eaten Potato Leek Soup

I took this picture half way through the meal (whoops) but the little pot comes almost full and it is a LOT of soup. I almost ate the entire thing but I stopped myself because I knew I needed room for the main course. I've never had potato leek soup before and I found it tasty and I would order it again. :thumbsup2

For the main courses, DH had the Grilled Strip Steak and I had the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops.

DH's Grilled Strip Steak. Sorry about the picture quality.

DH said his steak was 'alright' and that 'Ohana's was better. Later on in the meal I took a small bite of it and it was very tough. DH likes his steak well done so I was expecting a little toughness but not this bad. He barely touched his French Fries. When I asked him what was wrong he said they were too salty. I grabbed one to have a taste and oh dear :crazy2:. To say they were well seasoned would have been an understatement. He finished his steak, ate a few of his fries and called it a meal.

My shrimp and scallops

This may look small on the plate, but it is quite a lot of food. The shrimp, veggies, and puff pastry in the lobster sauce was delicious. Unfortunately, the scallops were not that great. I'm beginning to believe that it might be me and not the scallop because I have not encountered a scallop I have enjoyed. We have a very much love/hate relationship. I want to love them but they seem to end up with an odd overly mushy texture (not the case at BoG) or not having any flavor (definitely the case here). Maybe it's me and not it and I should end this odd relationship before it goes any further. :confused3

The scallop was my only main concern with this dish, and I could not finish it off. I believe I ate a bit over half of the dish. I'm not sure if it was because I was full from all the soup or just a left over feeling from not being well earlier. I had gotten motion sick on It's a Small World :faint: and had to leave around 3pm to go take a nap before returning for our ADR. We did not get dessert here. The cupcakes all looked delicious but we decided to pass from lack of room.

As a meal I would give it a 7/10. For the price that we paid for everything I did expect a bit higher. However, the restaurant is beautiful and DH would like to come back to dine in another one of the dining rooms. Next time I believe that we would try to make an ADR for lunch and for dinner skip off to either California Grill or Narcossee's.

Bonus Beast

The one huge bonus I would say to eating here at dinner is meeting Beast. It was a short wait to see him after dinner and we got a few pictures with him. I would not put it in the same category as a character dinner but it was nice getting a little added something to our not so awesome dinner.

I got swamped by him oh dear

Sorry your husband meal was kinda a bust with being tough and overly salted fries!

I feel you on the scallops. I'm so picky about the ones I actually like (which now is pretty much only at wine dinners or high end places) that I don't try it at most places anymore.

The lunch is probably the smarter option for next time!

I'll start by saying that I have pretty much the same feelings as you on BOG. We went last September and we really liked it but it's not some place that I thought "wow, the food is so good, I could come back again and again!"

We were called in and the interior of the restaurant was stunning. I really felt in terms of restaurant atmosphere the decor in here was fantastic. Most beautiful place we ate so far. Totally agree! We dined in the main ballroom the first time, and I thought it was just pure craziness. I came back a second time with my family and we ate in the Rose Gallery - MUCH better in there!

I grabbed one to have a taste and oh dear :crazy2:. To say they were well seasoned would have been an understatement.

LOL! I have heard so many people say that the food there is salty.. I guess it really is, wow!

The potato leek soup looks soooo delicious. I also have had the seafood puff pastry and I loved it, but I totally understand your POV on the scallops. Sorry to hear that his steak was tough and his fries were so salty. :(

I plan on trying the same dish that you had and I'm a little bit leery about the scallops too. It looks so good.

Sorry to hear about your DH's steak. I'm pretty sure that's what my DH will order too...I'll forewarn him.

Glad you got to see the inside on the castle as I think that is the real attraction. Like you our food has never been all that great and I completely agree on the noise. Between that and the low lighting, I called it a sensory deprivation chamber ; )

Too bad hubby's steak was tough and your scallops not cooked well, though your dish looks great.

Sorry that your DH's dinner was only so so...yours looked good other than that scallop! The beast meet is pretty cool...but I think I really liked lunch at BOG...too bad they don't have the Beast for that...oh well.

I'm with you on the texture of scallops. I didn't like them even at Victoria and Alberts. If you don't like them there, you don't like scallops.

Sorry your husband meal was kinda a bust with being tough and overly salted fries!

Yes, we'll definitely be trying out lunch the next time we go to Disney. I can handle having a busted meal for lunch prices..not so much dinner.

I think lunch will be a better choice for us the next time. The fries were quite salty, though, and I hope that it doesn't translate into the earlier meal. Perhaps I should just try the Coq Au Vin.

I plan on trying the same dish that you had and I'm a little bit leery about the scallops too. It looks so good.

The meal does look good. I was so excited when it arrived. Maybe I should just stay away from scallops. I think it might be best especially since I've never had a scalloped I liked.

Just got caught up!! Great reviews so far!!

Thanks! Great to have you along.

Glad you got to see the inside on the castle as I think that is the real attraction. Like you our food has never been all that great and I completely agree on the noise. Between that and the low lighting, I called it a sensory deprivation chamber ; )

The castle really is the main reason to go. I loved my meal save the scallops so it wasn't all bad for me. He still doesn't think the steak was really bad...but those fries though.

I wasn't impressed with dinner there either. Now the lunch was fab!!

I can't wait to try lunch! It's too bad we won't be back to Disney for a while.

Good to read your reviews. (especially for the places we're planning to eat when we go in FIFTEEN DAYS!!!!! :)

Super excited for you! Have a great trip.

Sorry that your DH's dinner was only so so...yours looked good other than that scallop! The beast meet is pretty cool...but I think I really liked lunch at BOG...too bad they don't have the Beast for that...oh well.

I was very happy to meet beast but next time it's definitely lunch on the menu. And you get the same desserts for that too!

Thank you so much RyuKokoro for your awesome reviews!!!!!!!

You're very welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying them.

Oh dear. Maybe I should stay off of them for good. At least I won't have a high expectation of them from now on.

Sorry for the lateness in responding. When we got back home after Disney we realized 2 out of our 3 young kittens had a bad eye infection so I've been super busy. Now they're all better and been driving me crazy running up and down around the house and pooping and peeing and destroying everything. Anyway on to the next review.

Pepper Market Breakfast

The next day was our non-park/relaxation day for our trip. We slept in and then went to grab a quick breakfast from Pepper Market. This was our only experience here for our stay, although we did grab a few things from Cafe Rix throughout the week.

The stations here are a bit confusing and I feel it's really not set up well for someone who doesn't quite know exactly what they want going in. It's awkward to stand around in the middle of the ordering area reading the different menus so you know which line to go into. We felt like we were in people's way so we just jumped into the closest line that looked like it served something we would like.

I honestly don't remember exactly what DH ordered but here's a picture.

cbb32b68-7539-44a8-8981-43324571ea88_zpsp2w0lldg.jpg

It consisted of eggs, bacon, and potatoes.

DH did not like the potatoes. He had thought they were hash browns from the picture and was quite disappointed with what he received. The bacon was quite good and he had eaten most of it before I got a chance to take the picture. The eggs though were not good at all and after eating some he left the rest on the plate. He also had a bottle of orange juice.

I had ordered pancakes, sausage, and eggs for my breakfast along with a bottle of water.

bcd684bb-e6a8-49b2-99dd-6f8d5bfaa4cf_zpsvudnoza5.jpg

As you can see I was quite hungry and dug in before I remembered to record our meal. The pancakes were good. No complaints on those. The sausage was good also other than they left me with quite the heartburn. I do have some hefty digestive problems so I chalked it up to that and didn't really blame the sausage completely. DH has mentioned to me that he has preferred the flat sausage to the links throughout our stay. I honestly didn't taste that much of a difference. The eggs were not a good addition and I left mine mostly untouched like DH's.

We were pretty hungry when we got here so we ate what we could but we never came here to eat for breakfast (or any other meal for that matter). If you do decide to eat I would definitely recommend you stay away from the eggs. They had a bad texture and horrible aftertaste about them.

Hope your kittens are ok!! We love PM for lunch and dinner. I had breakfast there years ago and it was just ok. My DH loves the brownies there at their bakery. He wants me to stay at CSR on the next trip and not the BC so he can have to darn brownie hahaha! He needs to take a cab.

Ugh...that breakfast does not look appealing or sound like it either...that's too bad but I'm glad you shared! Also glad your kitties are ok!

The kittens are doing a lot better now. Thank you. We never had an opportunity to eat there for lunch. We had stuff from cafe Rix but no brownies. And I agree I wouldn't go out of my way to come to Coronado just for a snack. I would have liked to check out Maya Grill while we were there though, probably won't get the chance again.

I actually wanted to try the French Toast but I couldn't find which station it was at so I just jumped into the closest one. Oh well. :guilty:

It really wasn't. Mine wasn't too bad but I felt bad for DH. Those eggs also messed with our stomachs throughout the day. Not a great meal. :faint:
