People like to burst my bubble.....

A friend of ours who *had* been on a Disney cruise told us it was boring, there was nothing to do, and their kids hated the pools full of salt water. I wonder if they were on a different cruiseline and just thought it was Disney? Who knows, it didn't stop us from reaching Gold status! :)

All I can say about those people is "clueless"... my girlfriends and I took a Mommy's cruise WITHOUT the kids and since it was my 1st cruise ever and I am a Disney fanatic, I convinced them to go on DCL. We had a blast and rarely saw the kids as most of the time they were in the kid's clubs! You will have fun...ENJOY!!!

I have only been on Disney Cruise with adults in my family and ALL of us have a great time. Ditto on everything said above. Actually, what you are doing is pretty smart, you can scope out the children's activities for when you go with your kids and get your bearings that way and make it even nicer for them when you DO take them.

This is what my wife and I are doing. We have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. We have been to WDW a good bit (my 4 year old has been 7 times, my 2 year old has been 3 times), but we haven't tried a cruise yet. Well my wife and I are leaving the kids with family to take a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy this Saturday. Our focus will be on spending time just the two of us, but we also want to check out the kids programs' open houses so that next year (once the 2 year old is 3 and can use the kids clubs), we will have a better idea of how our kids will do on the ship.

Can you let me know how you like the kids club on the Fantasy? We are taking the kids on their first cruise in Sept 2016 and we will be utilizing the clubs.

Sure. I will do my best to post our thoughts after viewing the open house. We probably won't take a cruise with the kids until either next summer or summer 2017. Not sure yet, but I can give my thoughts on the open houses for sure.

I'm starting to see this rationale from parents: "We really should do a kids-free cruise on DCL first, to make sure there will be things that the kids will like to do."
It's a good way to get some adults-only time under the guise of responsible parenting.
I've cruised without kids on four different lines, and had the best time onboard DCL.

"They always mock what they don't understand..."

Disney is awesome for adult cruisers, unless you are looking for the wild spring break style cruises, which in our 50's my wife and I are not, we enjoy so much the service, quality, and awesome experience we have on a Disney cruise... Only the ridiculous prices are driving us away... Wishing for some VGT rates again...

We just got off a 15 day cruise...while our 4 year old had the time of her life, there were times I wished we were sailing as adults only...there was so much fun stuff for adults, especially late at night that we missed because the kiddo had to go to bed.

I agree. I had hoped my DD would like the kids club more, but she did not. And even so, by about 11 she would have been exhausted and would have wanted to go home anyway.

We got back from our first Disney cruise (actually our first cruise ever) last week. My husband and I are talking about going on another one without the kids. We did not have time to do all of the adult activities but we really enjoyed the things we got to do. Palo was amazing. So was the spa. The adult beach at Castaway Cay is probably the most relaxing place on earth!

I could only wish. LOL. DD would never speak to me again if I went without her. But there were plenty of things I would have liked to do that we did not get to do. Some of them are: Adult beach at CC, stay out later than 10:30 p.m., sit through an entire "anyone can cook" seminar (managed to sit through part of one before DD wanted to get picked up), martini or champagne tasting (although we did do a mixology class), dinner in Palo, rainforest room, watch another movie at the theater. Dinner in Palo and Rainforest room are things that we could have potentially done this cruise even though DD was cruising with us, we just did not have time/money to do it. The other things though were as a result of parental obligations.

First...I would never let anyone's opinions decide anything for me. I'd always want to go and see for myself. That being said (and having been on 3 Disney cruises), I would never choose Disney for a cruise for just my husband and myself. The shows are really family-oriented (which is fine for Disney) and not all that. And I do like the option of being able to go to a casino. Our upcoming Magic cruise will likely be our last with Disney...my daughter has just about outgrown the princesses/characters and is more into Space Mountain and such, which is fine by me. :-)

I was convinced I'd be miserable and I was making fun of myself before we went. I was ashamed to tell people we were taking a Disney Cruise. We ALL had fun, but I do think it was more for the kids and that is WHY I had so much fun, was because my kids were SO happy.

THAT is exactly why we cruise Disney!

I agree with you that Disney definitely isnt for everyone but since my husband is a pastor and we are not gamblers or drinkers, other cruises just didnt seem our style. I could watch family movies (Disney) all day long. I love the fact we and the other couple going with us can go to SB on CC and relax and not worry about having kids with us. Our adult only cruise is only 3 nights and why we chose a 7 night with our kids later in the year. Plus when we go to the only other port for our excursion we wont worry about our kids with us as we have no desire to do the Bahama cruise again, just a one time shot for us when it comes to Nassau.

Accept it, everyone has different tastes, opinions, likes and dislikes. That makes your opinion no better or more right, nor their opinion worse or more wrong.

When someone pushes their opinion, before blasting them, just breathe, let them say what they want and then move on.
