Choosing an appetizer instead of a dessert on the DDP?

Forgive me if this has been discussed already, just curious if anyone else has heard this possible change coming? DD was at 50's PT for lunch today and heard a CM tell the table next to her that on the 30th of this month they would be implementing a change where you could do an appetizer instead of dessert.
I know not to hold my breath for this, but I would LOVE it if it were true!!
Anyone else heard anything similar??

A website posted today that there were some changes coming to the dining plan at the end of the month, but that wasn't one of them. It wasn't substantiated, so I wouldn't put anything faith in it. And, the ability to swap a desert for an appetizer has been the one hard and fast restriction that has never been allowed..

If they did we might buy the DDP. I can count on one hand the number of time we have both ordered dessert after dinner in the last 5 years. Even when we share it is no more than once a month on average. However we almost always at least order one salad if it isn't included with the meal.

The last time I was at DW on the DDP, you could actually choose an app OR a desert. I wish that was still the case as I do not have much of a sweet tooth.

Considering most apps are at least 10 bucks and most desserts aren't then I think this is a nada.

Don't think that has ever been the case. When the plan first came out it included BOTH app and desserts...you got both; you didn't have to choose.

Now that I think about it, you're exactly right. I probably just passed on desert so much that I forgot about it.

Some restaurants offer a cheese plate for dessert that you may be able to have before your meal as an app (Cali Grill and Flying Fish come to mind), but that is the only quasi-exception I know of. I wish you could sub out an app or a side soup/salad for dessert.

Can't find a source for that. Orlando Parks News reports expansion of snack credit eligibility and of being able to trade down from meal credits to snack credits.

As much as I hope the information is accurate, I am not holding my breath. For our family, this would be such a bonus. W love appetizers before dinner but not one for each one of us. We love dessert, but like to share that as well. The only reason I can see Disney allowing this trade will be becasue they want to increase teh all inclusive feel with their packages, but if they do this, and it is successful, I see another increase in price.

Trouble is if people order 1x app and 1x dessert across a party (so sharing each course then an entree each) then the table can't be turned as quickly as the diners will take longer. I would be in favour of allowing all the people on DDP to order app or all dessert, anything more is OOP.

That does not matter to me. I know that in theory this is true, but when so many families use the TS restaurants as a respite from the parks and the heat, and hang around to view fireworks, I wonder how much impact the appetizer will make. My family orders one or two to share anyway, so our time is already enhanced. I figure it may make the experience last a little longer, but for the most part I doubt much will change.

It won't cover all appetisers, but I understand that you will be able to substitute an unwanted dessert for a snack item instead, including something like a bowl of soup for example.

The only place where soup is a snack credit is BoG and that's only for lunch, so even if what you say comes to fruition, I don't see it happening at many TS places.
