Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Looks like Fastpass+ might start testing at DL in August. Shouldn't affect race weekend really but still interesting.

That still seems to be an unsubstantiated rumour. Until it's verified from a more reliable source than a random blog post, I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Even if it does go ahead in August, I think it would be such low level initial testing that it wouldn't affect the majority of park visitors.

I wonder if nb will have special shoes. I hated the steamboat Wiley so I didn't get them at Star Wars or princess

Part of me hopes there are new designs released because I was also underwhelmed by the Steamboat Willy ones. Another part of me hopes they don't release anything too great because I'm not sure I can afford to buy them lol!

I finally did our POT last night!

I started off with my own PR, which gave me a 2:45 estimate for the half. Happy with that :goodvibes

However, DH's time (from our first ever 10k at Disneyland last year) only got him a 3:17 estimate!

So, we've decided to have a last ditch effort next weekend. We managed to find a local 10k, which wasn't too expensive :thumbsup2 I know we don't get t-shirts, and I'm not expecting medals either, but if we come out with a good time, we'll be happy! Neither of us have done much training, but DH is one of those people who will be able to just go straight out and run it anyway - he didn't do much before the 10k last year and did much better than me lol! He easily got the same time as me, but he did lots of running back and forth with the camera and stopped for a bathroom break! So I'm feeling pretty confident that he'll be able to wipe 15-20 minutes off that time. If I can't keep up, he'll just go on ahead.

Reminder for anyone interested that you can sign up for volunteering at noon EST tomorrow. Not really sure how it works but i guess I'll see what the options are.

I'm so tempted to volunteer! But I can't request off that much time from work since I'm going away. But I'm definitely going to try and work either the Expo or the events!

Well shucks. I was supposed to run a half marathon this weekend, hopefully sub-2-hours for my proof of time, but didn't my gallbladder decide that it wanted out NOW. I wonder if 11 days is enough time to recover between surgery and running 13.1 miles?

That happened to me last year! Right around this time too - put my training for the DL 10k right back.

I wasn't able to do much at all in the first week after surgery - it's amazing how much you use your core for EVERYTHING lol! I was able to start training again after a week, but I wouldn't count on being able to run a half.

Good luck with the surgery and I hope you have a nice quick recovery - trust me, it's better out than in!

Yikes. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Yikes!! Don't push yourself...hope you feel better soon!

Take time to heal. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Seems like there is as much angst over signing up for volunteering as there is for a race. Few people unhappy about not getting to volunteer. I did get in for the early spot on Friday so I assume I'll be doing something for the 5k.

Disneyland's Twitter account avatar...similar to the banner @Keels posted. The half medal has GOT to be something like this, right???

Hopefully they'll release picture at some point over the next few weeks! :)

Aw bummer, my Dis notifications weren't working for this thread for the past week. Finally realized that volunteer registration started today ... but not until noon PST (3 hrs behind). Everything from Thurs-Sun was waitlisted, but I signed up for the waitlist anyways :)

If so, I am majorly regretting not signing up for the half!!!

P.S. If I squint hard enough, I think I can see @Keels' Dole Whip behind the diamond. ;)

All the best for a speedy recovery. Don't push yourself to soon. There will always be another run you only have one body take care of it.

Bit of bad news for my mum today... She has been having some issues with her right foot and left thigh. Turns out she has 2 stress fractures! She is not allowed to run AT ALL for 3 months. She is allowed to as much walking as she wants, so she will be doing that and swimming for her training (she's not even allowed to ride her bike in case she falls off - the thigh is very delicate and will cause massive problems if it actually breaks). Luckily, she managed to get a great POT (around 2 hours for the half), so she'll have a good buffer against the sweepers. Unfortunately though, it will be a much different race than she expected!
