Huge news. As a Universal Orlando® Passholder, you're among the first to know — the next generation of the legend of Kong is coming to Universal's Islands of Adventure® in the summer of 2016.

We will definitely need to make a trip to USO in the future! Thanks for sharing buckeev!

is this going to be just another ride in front of 3ds screens? universal has been going to that well a little much lately

No

From the other thread (pulled from various news articles about it):

Kong combines all of the major advances in theme park technology of the past decade into one massive attraction. From completely immersive atmospheres, massive sets, state of the art trackless ride vehicles, advanced animatronics, seem-less multimedia integration, effects never seen before, and conclude with a face to face encounter with Kong himself,

And interview with fox "Riding in the largest vehicle ever created for this type of attraction by Universal—an over-sized 72-seat truck-- guests will enter the multifaceted trip through a 70-foot high wall into the depths of Kong’s jungle. Though West wouldn’t give exact specifications on the size of the attraction, he noted that it will contain indoor and outdoor segments and is gearing up to be one of the biggest facilities ever built by the entertainment giant."

“I don’t know the total time from start to finish, but I do know it will be one of the longest rides we’ve ever done.”

Other info coming out says that the ride vehicles are trackless, and that only a small part of the ride will have you put on 3d glasses. The outdoor portions and some of inside won't require glasses. And more confirmation that it is a longer ride, with animatronics and massive sets. It is entirely different from Kong 360 in Hollywood.

There will be live drivers/guides on the vehicles and the height requirement is 34 inches

Wow... out in a year? How can Universal keep pushing out attraction after attraction in so short of times and it takes Disney years to make a parking garage and some new restaurants?

This is going to beat out Avatarland? Yeesh Disney ..

I am so excited for this! I think next fall we will need to make a trip to Universal again!

34"?! That would certainly be nice to have another ride toddlers can go on, but it sounds a bit too scary for a 2 year old!

This looks amazing. I hope Universal keeps firing away and makes a dent in the attendance so Disney will finally do something.

Maybe this will be a huge, better viewing like Dinosaur and Indiana Jones in Disney parks. Just wow! And glad mostly not glasses.

Does anyone remember the original kong? Seems like you were in a car suspended in the air. I think I remember the que being downtown NYC.

Yup, the queue was a subway in NYC. It was cool but cost a fortune to maintain and was never really that busy. However, that was back when Universal really was the darkside.

Does anyone know where it is, what it's replacing? They're not scrapping Jurassic Park, are they?

I think someone asked in another thread, but will Reign of Kong be replacing an attraction? Has anyone been to IOA lately to see where the construction is currently taking place?

It's brand new, not replacing anything. It will be built next to Jurassic Park River ride. I have some pictures somewhere, I will try to find them.

Well the building itself is nearly done as they've been building it for a long time...just announced it now :)

Did you just figure this out,Disney's very frustrating, aside from a few years in the 90's where they had pretty significant additions they just stall and stall.Did you see the report from Universal that just came out saying they're planning a new attraction at each theme park every year and that theme park revenue went up 33.7% and theme park operating cash flow went up 54.6%.It's pretty obvious you build the attractions and people show up.More interesting is that aside from the Sapphire hotel currently in construction they mention having two other hotels in the planning phases likely to open within 5 years, why are they making that many more hotels,we know a new on site waterpark is coming but that waterpark and Sapphire falls pretty much complete the remaining spaces they have on the current site.where are they building those two hotels? It's already been rumored Wet n Wild is probably going away and looking at the area surrounding Wet n Wild it's not only possible but probable a third theme park with those two hotels are in the planning phases for this site, and at the rate they're working all this could be done before Disney opens a Star Wars land at DHS.

Amen. The more competitive Disney has to be the better it is for all of us. Plus this looks really cool.

I'm not into King Kong but I do remember the original Kong attraction and I enjoyed it. This looks like another great ride.
