June 13, 2015 Western Fantasy

SonyaShay,
Do either of the FE groups that you belong to have room for an additional group? I am not set on using Disboards for my FE, but would really like to participate in one. Or could you tell me how to locate a group that has room?

Thanks

I had originally stepped up to organize the FE but then DIS changed their rules regarding Google docs. At that point I decided to remove myself from DIS. I come back occassionally to make sure people know I am not on DIS and that Bobbi that orignally started this met group is no longer on this sailing.

I am invoved with 2 FE groups that are doing quite well. I hope someone will step up here on DIS and orgaize one for everyone else.

Hi all, We just booked this cruise this morning. It will be my Mom - Carole, James (DH), Myself (Susan) and my 7 y/o (DS) Jameson. I see there is a page set up for this cruise on another "social media" site. DISboards does not allow posting of specific information.
We are interested in the FE. (We have done them for all cruises) Since we don't have a lot of time (or luggage space) is anyone interested in participating in a group limited to 10 or so cabins?

Is anyone interested in going to the Blue Hole in Jamaica? I am trying to form a group to go with me and my daughter. If you don't know about the Blue Hole, check it out on tripadvisor or Utube. The reviews are off the charts, but Disney does not offer a port adventure there. We would need to book through a private tour company (I know some reputable ones). Please contact me if you are interested!

Hi! Just booked for me (Stacey), DH (Rob), DD (Gabrielle -18) and DS (Mitch - 16). My daughter is really hoping there are other 18-21 year olds on board!

Hey! I noticed that we have similiar ages passengers!! We both have 18 year old graduates and a 16 year old! Is Marissa planning on doing the college aged group since we are too old for Vibe?
Hi! We just booked today and also have an 18 year old (daughter - Gabrielle) and 16 year old (son- Mitch). She will definitely be at the 18-21 meet and greet hoping to make some friends!

My family and I (DH, DS 8 and DD 11) are cruising for the first time and are sooo excited that our first cruise is a Disney one. I just stumbled upon this and would like to be added to the group. I am a newbie, so not sure what the proper protocol is to get added. We would like to do the FE as well.

HI SonyaShay

We are cruising June 13, 2015 and we'd love to be added to a group for Fish Extenders! This will be our 3rd Disney Fantasy Cruise but we've never participated in the extenders.
Karen (40), DH Mark (41), Nicholas (14), Alli (11)
We are in room 9077
Thanks!

I have posted a few times throughout the thread that I am no longer organizing the FE since DIS changed their policy on "other" social media sites. I was hoping that someone here would step up to organize but no one has at this time. The FE group I have organized elsewhere has done very well with more than 5 groups of 10 cabins each participating.

Thanks SonyaShay for replying so quickly. I was multitasking and didn't have a chance to read the entire thread.
I'll look into other options. Have a great sailing!

Good afternoon! We are interested in joining your FE group. First cruise. Myself (38), DW (38), DD (12) and DD(10). The kids are super excited about participating in the FE group. We don't have our room number assigned yet. Looking forward to meeting everyone!:jester::dogdance:

My 11 year old daughter (soon to be 12 years old!) and I are really looking forward to the June 13th Fantasy cruise. My daughter loves making new friends. Anyone else with a daughter of similar age? Maybe they can meet up in the Oceaneer Lab or Edge?

This will be our 1st Disney Cruise. Can anyone tell me how to get my kids and my nieces to participate in the Fish Extenders? Or is it too late? We have a 9 yo daughter and 5yo son. My nieces are 8 and 10yo.

I'm going to take the bull by the horns and run a latecomer fish extender group!

I'm going to run it a little differently than most, considering how close we are to the cruise date. I've done FE groups MANY times and am experienced at all the in's and out's, including the best way to format the list so it's easier to deliver the gifts.

  • The MAIN FE list will be closed after 12 cabins have signed up, or at NOON Central Standard Time on Tuesday, JUNE 9. However, I'll start a second (or third -- wishful thinking!) FE list if people are still interested. The last name I add to any list must be posted by NOON CST on THURSDAY, JUNE 11.
  • Rather than deal with the forum's rules on documents, I'm just going to print a well-organized list that will be available on my cabin door at 5pm on the day we sail. My family is in cabins 6616 and 6618. (Make note of that on your cruise documents!!!)
If you're still interested in joining a FE group, please copy/paste the section below into your reply, fill it out completely, and I'll respond as soon as you're included. I plan to check this forum at least once a day until noon CST on June 11.

ETA: Although I'm going to have a well-printed list for everyone, I'll also include whatever info you'd like in this thread so you can prepare your gifts! And if I can figure out a way to provide a link to a document, I'll post it so you can have a list asap.

(Obviously, add more people if you need them!)
*The cabin # is really important, but if you don't have one yet, don't fret! I'll make sure there's a place on my door where everyone can see which room you're in and add it to their own list. :) You'll need to be at my door around 4:30 on departure day to add your cabin number, or write me a REALLY CLEAR note and leave it at my door by then.

Some of you may be wondering why I used "princesses or pirates" rather than "boy or girl." Rather than try to pigeonhole everyone, I wanted to give the kids/adults a choice, in case someone is making a specific type of FE gift. For instance, I have always preferred pirates, but if I put that I were a 6yo girl, I would get princess stuff. Also, I've noticed over the years that people try to include various Disney characters in their gifts, and if a child is in LOVE with Pooh, maybe they should get a Pooh gift if one is available. :)

If you participate, PLEASE have an ACTUAL fish extender on your door! There's nothing sadder for me than to be happily passing out FE gifts and see someone who made no effort at making it magical for their OWN family. It doesn't have to be fancy, you don't have to buy one from eBay, you don't have to pull out the sewing machine... I've seen lots of wonderful homemade fish extenders. You can do it! :)

I also want to clarify that adults should be participating, too! Go ahead and sign yourself up, even if you think it's just for the kids. You'd be surprised at how many awesome gifts everyone gets. My husband loves the candy more than the kids do. ;)

I like to give everyone the same thing, so I choose things adults like, too. We've gotten all sorts of things over the years, some simple and some amazing. We love them all! A family from Europe brought small boxes of a thin chocolate that kids love to eat with breakfast. A family from an NBA team brought team pencils to everyone. Someone else from Minnesota (Holla!!!) brought Pearson's Salted Nut Rolls. One family included homemade credit-card-type pieces of plastic that we could use to keep the cabin lights on. (That will make sense later if this is you haven't cruised recently!) We've gotten hand-made tiny scrapbooks with spots for our pictures. We've gotten magnets (not stickers!) for our cabin doors. We've gotten "first aid kids" with handy things we might have forgotten like safety pins and Mickey bandaids. We always get fun things to wear on Pirates Night, which is a BIG DEAL.

These things don't need to cost much, so make them interesting!

OK... small but proud group! Please remember that you do NOT need to go overboard on your FE gift unless you really, really want to. I was sad to read a thread from a while ago where one person was upset that she put a ton of craft work and money into her gift and felt the gifts she got in return were inadequate. Just do what makes sense for you. :)

ESTANSBERGER -- what are the names of the adults in your group? FE gifts are given to everyone, not just kids! My FE gift is best if the parents get one, too, to work on alongside the kids.

JessDan -- If you just typed next to my ":" it combines with the next letter to make the faces. : D makes :D, : P makes :P, etc.

So... we have 4 cabins participating! I won't recap all our information except to say there are 14-16 people (I won't know for sure until I get info on the adults in the Estansberger group), with 8 kids.

Note that if you have a FE hanging outside your door and you're in a normal hallway, you'll probably get random goodies from anonymous people. While one of my kids would mysteriously find empty wrappers in her FE spot (?!), we all received little things from others not in our FE group. Some were labeled with the giver's name, but most were not. My FE things are usually made by hand and I don't normally have extras, but when I do, I pass them out to other families. It's all fun!

Make sure you stop by my room (6616 -- write it down!!!) around 5:00 on Saturday to get an "official" list and a note from me! And since I know we have such a small group, I'll make sure to have a few little things to slip in your kids' bins throughout the week. My kids are older and more excited about giving out FE gifts than receiving them, so they're happy to sneak in a few extra visits to yours!
